The world does not feel welcome in the USA, and they are staying away. Tourism to the USA is cratering.

What does the rest of the world know that the US doesn’t?

 image.thumb.jpeg.669d9b05122ba90366459b232d21f281.jpeg

20.4 million Canadians visited the U.S. in 2024. But the 2025 numbers are dismal. Nearly half of Canadians said they canceled or delayed U.S. trips specifically because of Trump’s America. According to reporting:

Border car crossings: down 37% year-over-year.

Flights: down 26%.

Bookings: down as much as 40% earlier in the year.

And now the DHS has proposed a new rule that would require all tourists visiting the US to share the past five years of their activity on social media, as well as their contacts -  names and phone numbers. I will stay away, thanks.

And fewer Americans are touring abroad. Big whoop!  Who really needs to see a bunch of 300 lb. Canadian slobs wearing a speedo and black socks on our beaches anyways.

Domestic tourism in the US is up substantially in 2025 to the tune of 900 billion dollars and may pass the 1 trillion mark.  The visitations to our national parks and other attractions continue to go up.

So anyways, just stay where you are because nobody gives a shit outside of a few niche shops along the border.

The Absolute Best Photos of the past few weeks! Part 1. (50 photos ...

............. on the other hand U.S. tourists to Canada are increasingly concerned about Canadian domestic  crime.

I can only speak for myself of course but you've captured my own sentiment about American tourists in Canada perfectly. Although equal and opposite, it appears our opinion on the subject is identical.

Pretty cool how things can radically change in a short period of time... I was always skeptical about the prospect of influencing / modifying long standing behaviour patterns and the potential value of committing resources to dedicated I/O efforts.

And here we are, not only have I become a believer, I'm an active participant too... cool eh?

What I'm wondering now is how long the animosity and FU attitude will remain intact once a state of equilibrium is restored and whether or not it becomes entrenched across the board or if it's just a temporary blip soon to be forgotten.

Personally, I'm in it for the long haul and hope you are too... please stay home.

I think you both missed the “domestic” part there in your haste to mock.

They are getting non-stop propaganda fed to them by the media.

A group (about 25) of us go to Myrtle Beach every year for two weeks golfing.

I didn't go this year (appendix busted).

I spoke to the trip organiser this morning to see if the Canadian golfer numbers were down this year.

"Hell no, same as always" was his answer.

He said the Hotel staff told him bookings from Canada were about the same.

This response to a factual post about Europeans not visiting the USA boils down to “well you Canadians are fat, so there”.

😂

Sometimes this forum is comedy gold.

A lot of attention paid to Coal Mining but it contributes less ($50B in 2021) to the US GDP than foreign Tourism at $180B https://wttc.org/news/us-economy-set-to-lose-12-5bn-in-international-traveler-spend-this-year

The US doesn't seem to be thinking these things through.

If they want to be isolationist, that's their decision, but what is the value of turning people away ?  Is it political ?  Doesn't seem that you would win independents with that strategy.

Of course, it could just be that the leadership is an empty suit.... COULD  be...

Tourism isn’t down because the US is turning people away.

Tourism is down, from Canada for example, because there is a more national movement to boycott America.

It's kind of titfortat though right?

The US has made statements and taken actions that elicit an understandable response.

How about that?

All good but we're all done for now.

This was an example in response to your silly comment about the US turning people away.

How about acknowledging that?

  1. That honestly sounds like something Britain would do.
  2. I stopped going to the US in 2014, and didn't start again until 2017, then couldn't go during covid, started going again in summer 2021, then mostly stopped this year.

Honestly, that graph that you showed with all the sharp peaks and valleys looks about right from my POV.

  1. A fat Canadian is considered fit south of the 49th
  2. Stop fantasizing about us in Speedos, Jersey Shore
  3. Black socks on beaches must be an American thing. I've never seen it up here.

Honestly, I won’t currently go to the States since there is no guarantee that I will not be detained for no apparent reason.

But, of course, Trump treating us like Putin treats the Ukraine sticks in our craw, too.

Everything Putin has said about the Ukraine, Trump has copied when he is talking about Canada:

Ukraine (Canada) is not a real country. They don't really exist ... the border between countries is an artificial line … the people in Ukraine (Canada) really want to join their country … history necessarily leads to annexation … they are our brothers, and yet at the same time our enemies.

The big difference is that Canada was never part of the US like Ukraine used to be part of the USSR before the "tragedy" which Putin regrets.

Kleptocrat Putin really only regrets not being able to personally profit from Ukraine's natural resources like the huge gas reserves off Ukraine's Southern coast.
