it's a little depressing. Without a unifying common set of ethics and values countries don't tend to survive and usually countries are created by people who DO share such values and that's why they work... but once that's gone it's like putting the egg back together again. I'm not sure how to get there from here.

I don't think it's "deliberately orchestrated" or a conspiracy theory.  I think people didn't bother to think about the potential future consequences of their ideas and technologies before they embraced them.

Mostly I see it in people who consider themselves wise but have never traveled beyond the vacation circuit... they tend to believe that everyone shares their ideals, morals, love of democracy etc etc. That belief has played a starring role in some pretty stunning foreign policy failures too. Sometimes the only people asking "WTF did you think was going to happen?" questions were the (more cynical) soldiers who served in these locations..

Taken a step further, the folks I'm talking about don't even believe that the cultural norms of a home country continue to prevail once immigrants (from radically different cultures) step off the plane in Canada. Warehousing new arrivals vertically in ethnic enclaves (whether deliberate of not) is an example of what I mean. The plight of single mothers from Somalia who had less status in their home country than their teenage sons stands as another example which was then amplified and made worse by the previous one.

Long before this became a desperate plea from the community itself progressives were warned that those single mothers would need extra help and support... that it was a pay now or pay later equation. The Herbs and eyeholes of the world didn't believe it though, they called anyone who said so racist. Pay attention here Herb.... most of the people urging caution are not MAGA racist CHUDS (or what ever you delight in calling them), they're offering a cautionary note in the form of prophesy: if you want to continue down this road with ever increasing numbers you had better start doing it right.

But conservative-minded people have never been happy with the flood of uncivilized brown people into Canada.

The left continues to embrace cultural relativism, but culture decides the quality of life for a people. The reason the Middle East, and indeed all Muslim nations, are shitholes is because of their culture, which in their case came from Islam. Africa is a shithole because it's full of Africans. Remove every single one and replace them with Germans, and Africa would become a paradise. 

Culture matters. So when you bring over millions of people from failed cultures and then grandly tell them not to bother to integrate because we admire their culture so much, what you get here is a growing portion of the population and electorate - soon to be the majority - whose culture and values lead to systemic failure.

Where was China sixty years ago? Or South Korea? Or Singapore? That was when basically all of Africa got its independence. Africa is worse today than it was sixty years ago, with worse infrastructure and government. It's going absolutely nowhere.

Don't get too excited unfortunately. A large portion of that is how they're redefining permanent and non-permanent residents. They posted an article about this I believe

How do they even measure this? My understanding is that they automatically figure anyone whose visa has ended has gone, but we have plenty of evidence that this isn't happening.

That's true. Also there are certain problems with how they're defining resident right now.

Bottom line is that we're still looking at adding about 400,000 residents per year. And chances are not all of the expiring visas which number into the millions actually did leave.

But the problem Carney's going to face is that if immigration starts to ramp up again no matter how he juggles the numbers the problems will still be there.
