True enough I suppose, just not being conservative is enough.

You mean your imagination wasn't?  Hard to say what your imaginary friends are like.

And as pointed out earlier trading with them reflects the fact Canada has a pretty loose set of morals and ethics and always has.

It reflects no such thing. And honestly you're the last one to be talking about loose morals and such :)

Well that's the thing isn't it. There is no actual agreement. No trade document was signed. At best this is an "understanding'.

The deal is tariff relief and EV's, with more discussion on trade and investment.  This was over 2 months ago, are you just catching up?

Canadians have been conditioned for 11 years to accept collapse and demand no accountability.

Since 2019 our food prices have climbed only slightly more than those in the US, and we've only surpassed them in the last year.  We import a lot of our food, have a weak dollar, and had retaliatory tariffs on some items until last fall.  The cost of food is a challenge in every developed country... weather events/climate change, disrupted supply chains, high energy costs, and wars like Russia/Ukraine have a bit to do with it...

Wow...  you can't be this out of touch, are you?

https://www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2026/01/16/prime-minister-carney-forges-new-strategic-partnership-peoples

To help deliver the full potential of these partnerships, and build up our domestic manufacturing sector, Canada will allow up to 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles (EV) into the Canadian market, with the most-favoured-nation tariff rate of 6.1%. This amount corresponds to volumes in the year prior to recent trade frictions on these imports (2023-2024), representing less than 3% of the Canadian market for new vehicles sold in Canada. It is expected that within three years, this agreement will drive considerable new Chinese joint-venture investment in Canada with trusted partners to protect and create new auto manufacturing careers for Canadian workers, and ensure a robust build-out of Canada’s EV supply chain. With this agreement, it is also anticipated that, in five years, more than 50% of these vehicles will be affordable EVs with an import price of less than $35,000, creating new lower-cost options for Canadian consumers.

Agri-food and trade are foundations of the longstanding relationship between Canada and China – and China continues to be our second-largest export market. To renew and strengthen that relationship, Prime Minister Carney and President Xi secured a preliminary agreement-in-principle with landmark measures to remove trade barriers and reduce tariffs:

  • By March 1, 2026, Canada expects that China will lower tariffs on Canadian canola seed to a combined rate of approximately 15%. China is a $4 billion canola seed market for Canadian producers, and this change represents a significant drop from current combined tariff levels of approximately 85%.
  • Canada expects that Canadian canola meal, lobsters, crabs, and peas will not be subject to relevant anti-discrimination tariffs from March 1, 2026, until at least the end of this year.

Oh i'm sure if they did an actual deal there'd be documentation like i said we can see it for the other deals he really did.

So.  Where's the document?
Isn't one? So .... there's NO commitment on ANY of this.

LOL.  What's really funny is you realized i was right 2 posts ago and you're desperately trying to spin to avoid coping with that. :)   Very entertaining :)  Dance little guy dance :)

That's a good question last time Justin entire stick was we need to diversify our Chinese trade....And yet here we are after all that pain and suffering we have re written our moral and values code, now it is ok to trade with people that have a huge record of unfair tariffs or trade practices, now Liberals view it as we can trade with anyone...now that are moral compass does not get in the way...which is why i asked can we trade with Russia, Iran, maybe Cuba...and if not why ? i know why becasue you don't have the answers and some place out there in liberal land there is a red line , where is it ?

And who put us in a position of having to look for trading partners. Oh, Trump you say???

So, we went shopping for the best deals we could get elsewhere.

Playing the high moral ground game is hypocritical. We want to sell out products, agriculture and resources...to whomever will buy them. We also want the cheapest product we can get so we buy from many countries that do not meet our moral standard...and we have been doing that for a very long time.

"Stephen Harper was in favour of trading with China, prioritizing economic ties, resource exports, and investment through initiatives like the Canada-China Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA), signed in 2012. Despite initially taking a harder stance on human rights, his government pursued closer commercial ties, including a currency deal and nuclear cooperation."

IS that how we did it before this "Deal"?  Because we had imports and exports before this "Deal".

The fact is we have no Deal. We basically have a handshake agreement that really means nothing and is unenforceable. And which the Chinese could ignore tomorrow. Meanwhile we've given them significant access to one of our critical Industries

And you're blind devotion to the liberals is so strong that you just think this is perfectly great without questioning it. A level of self-delusion that gets to the point where you're creating imaginary napkins apparently to try and defend your point of view

Diversification Efforts: Critics and analysts acknowledge that while the efforts to diversify are necessary, some argue that these new partners are not sufficient to fully offset the economic impact of reduced trade with the U.S..

Productivity Concerns: Concerns have been raised by the IMF and other experts that without boosting domestic innovation, new trade partnerships might not produce the desired growth.

Political Debate: The shift away from the U.S. has been a point of debate, with some viewing it as essential for long-term independence, while others, particularly those in sectors heavily integrated with the U.S. market, have expressed concern.

Awwwww look! cranky crying leftie is cranky and crying :)

It's always obvious when you've realized you're entirely wrong, you break out the cheap grade 3 insults :)

The facts are simple. We don't actually have a deal, at best we have an understanding which is what I said in the beginning. And it's taking you this long to finally have to face that fact.

In the meantime we're opening up I made your sector to them that they've never had before and we're getting nothing for it.

All they've committed to is to promise to not bully as quite as much for the next 5 seconds. Maybe.

And while this understanding helps the farmers in the very short term it hurts the automakers permanently

That's a simple truth. You can cry and whine and call me all the names you want but it'll still be true at the end of the day

This was not a good deal for us napkin boy

No one ever claimed that we can or will ever fully offset reduced trade with the US. Nor it will be sufficient.

What is being done is that our trade has to be diversified.

What is being said and is a fact is that our trade and partnership with the US will never be the same as before and we need to look elsewhere, and that is what is being done.

The industrial carbon tax rises - again - today - to $110 per tonne.

That's 120% higher than just a few years ago.

And it will continue to rise every year.

This will amplify cost pressures across every link in the food supply chain.

Also today:

  • Beer, wine & other alcohol go up 2%
  • CPP & EI increase on payroll taxes
  • Carney gets a $17,600 raise
  • MP's get an $8,800 raise
  • Ministers get a $13,000 raise

That miniscule "tax cut" was eaten up a looooong time ago and Canadians are going even further into the hole.
