It's true. I saw it when I was in the religious cult. Anything "bad" said about the religion or the leaders - was just proof that our "truth" was under attack by demonic forces. We were repeatedly told to NOT LISTEN to it and dismiss it out of hand, so that our thinking wasn't led away from "truth". We were given talking points to counteract information. For instance, sometimes in the news there would be announcement of a member of our religion getting caught molesting kids or something.
