We'd still be driving around spewing lead and nitrogen smog, with no seat belts or safety glass, etc. etc. without them. And this bullshit about the govt has no right to mandate - they have the right to mandate if you can even drive a car at all. You're supposed to know that the minute you study for a DL. This whole shitshow has been a whiney parade of naysayers with the sole argument "I don't like EVs" and nothing else. The mandate as it's written says in 2035 (10 years from now) your car has to be electrified. You will still be able to buy a PHEV and never plug it in if you're dumb enought. If Dodge is still around they'll sell PHEV hemis with stickers on the window claiming 40 mpg. Go look at a f*cking car lot these days. The hottest sellers are hybrids, we're already well into electrification. PHEVs are also gaining. BEVs have 300km+ ranges, chargers are everywhere and at home. Gas only cars are right up there in price and the Id1ot President has ditched mileage standards, so one jump in oil prices and allowing US makers to stagnate even more he's f*cked the whole auto sector. Hopefully Carney is not nearly as simple minded. HTG I'm sick of seeing these 'when cars were good' posts of Boss302s and HemiCudas. They were shit. Compare a 2005+ car to a 1968 Road Runner is like comparing the Roadrunner to a Model T I wasn't talking about health regulations or safety regulations like window glass and seat belts, etc. I was clearly talking about government telling us what kind of car to buy, EVs for example. That is Marxist intrusion on freedom of choice. Don't give me the BS about climate change caused by driving internal combustion engine cars. It's a pile of unproven nonsense. Carney is a radical globalist climate change man. We can expect more of Trudeau 2.0 from him. Learn to read. I was talking about government intrusion in things that are none of their business, not genuine safety features in vehicles. If you want a Commie system move to N. Korea. You might be happier. Like I said buy a PHEV in 2035 and never plug it in. It's like Daytime Running Lights, once again the laggard Americans took forever to make them required and I live where lots of Yanks are going to and from Alaska. They'll all tell you they turn their lights on in the rain, snow, smoke and dust but they're full of shit. And the number of Cdn plates without DRLs is annoying too, it means their car or truck is now 35+ years old. Buy a new one FFS! It's beyond time. You'll be able to drive your car you have now until you're dead if you want. Might cost you $8/L in 2050 but you all sound so damn stubborn no doubt you still will. Quote

herbie Posted September 10, 2025 Report Posted September 10, 2025 No you're welcome to do that. The opinion of one who's never owned, never even ridden in, and never would even consider an electrified vehicle is worth dick shit. Squeal as much as you want, anyone with eyeballs can see more EVs on the road every year. Keep telling yourselves you can't charge them, they don't work in the cold and can't go very far, no one's buying them, when there's hundreds of them in northern BC and more every year. 2026 Mercedes GLC BEV has over 700km range. My old Saturn couldn't go that far on a tank of gas. But if you want GM to stop EVs like they did in 1991 and fall behind, don't waste subsidies on car plants here. The Koreans, Japanese, Chinese and Europeans will make what the Japanese did to the Big 3 in the70's and 80's look like a paper cut. 1 Quote
Aristides Posted September 10, 2025 Report Posted September 10, 2025 The biggest impediment to EV sales right now is cost, not demand. Get prices down and they will sell like crazy. 1 Quote

But hey soon the price argument won't be an issue anymore. https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/autos/article/ottawa-considering-scrapping-tariffs-on-chinese-electric-vehicle-tariffs/?taid=68c14528181f3c000153d01e&utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A+Trending+Content&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=twitter Quote Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald said Tuesday a decision to scrap or ease these tariffs is under review, but would include consideration of the impacts on other sectors, and that China had not yet communicated what exactly it wants. “The prime minister did say there is an EV review. We will see where that leads … the discussions are ongoing,” said Macdonald. “We are in a fragile position, but we are here to support the farmer first and foremost, and if that decision has to be made, then that decision has to be made.” Canada imposed the tariffs in October 2024, with the government saying at the time it was protecting local manufacturers from China’s unfair trade practices. But since then, the EV market has hit a series of bumps in the road. 1 Quote

Get prices down and they will sell like crazy. No that's not true. Prices were down and they were selling okay. But it's been noted for several years now that the demand has been falling off and it's still nowhere close to what the demand for ice Vehicles is So demand was already relatively low compared to ice and now that the prices have gone back up it's dead in the water. And I haven't heard you address the point I raised about places banning them for fire risk reasons, you ignore that because you have absolutely no way of addressing it and that's going to become a bigger and bigger problem as long as they're using lithium ion batteries You got your head up your butif you think that EV's are the vehicle of choice for even 50 percent of people, never mind 100 percent. Plug in hybrids MAYBE, and that 's what we should have been pushing instead of EV's or at least as hard as EV's/ We'd have solved 90 percent of the emissions issues and we could legit adapt to that tomorrow. 1 1 Quote "That which doesn't kill me... CdnFox Posted September 10, 2025 Report Posted September 10, 2025 16 minutes ago, Boges said: That's unhelpful hyperbole. Plenty of people prefer EVs. By "plenty" you mean about 10 percent of the population. Right now EV's are only about 7 percent of registered vehicles, despite rebates. That is not enough to drive adaptation. The day may come when the tech allows for that but that day is not today. So it's REAL FACT not unhelpful hyberbole and you need to get your head out of the clouds and look at the facts. Quote But hey soon the price argument won't be an issue anymore. The price argument HASN'T been an issue, we've been giving subsidies. And a lot of people will be wary about a chinese car period, it took hyundai a long time to be established and they're korean. Given the choice a lot of people will spend money on an ice made in canada vs ANYTHING made in china. Look at the fuss over the ferries. And it's not just the price. Finding charging locations is a problem, charging times are a problem even if there were chargers everywhere, stratas are looking at banning them at their properties because of the risk if they catch fire, the cost of replacing the batteries when the time comes is huge, there are a lot of environments where they don't work well such as severe cold, they are brutally inefficient for long trips which some people take more than others. With hard work you might get up to 20% of the population wanting as they are today. That is not enough to drive change Honestly the correct answer would have been to push plugins. Hybrid vehicle removes a lot of the problems including cost, recharging, range, and a host of other problems. And we would have gotten like 95% of the emission savings. But the fact is the government doesn't care about actual solutions, it cares about virtue signaling and Evs just aren't up to snuff 1 Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."

In case you have not heard the word yet? Carnage the destroyer of all things decent and moral is telling me that by 2035 i will not be allowed to buy an ICE vehicle any longer in Canada. That is called forcing me to have to buy an EV, stunned. Just so everyone knows here, a gallon of gas in Canada today is costing anyone who drives an ICE vehicle approx. $8 a gallon. In America, it is approx. $3.00 a gallon and going down. The cost of gas today here in BC is approx. $1.71 a liter. But you are to much of a leftist to know that. Implementing the metric system allowed the oil and gas companies and the governments to make more in taxes on the selling of gas. The metric system was a big ripoff for Canadians. But you are to dumb to know that. Go away. 🤮 1 Quote
