Carney is pausing the EV mandate, just like Pierre said should happen.  Another policy that Pierre was ahead of and correct on.  At this point, we really just need Pierre as PM, as Carney is just a middle man.

Canada is delaying a plan to force automakers to hit minimum sales levels for electric vehicles by 2026, a concession to manufacturers in a sector that has been upended by tariffs.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government will make the announcement Friday as one of a series of measures to help companies in the industries most affected by United States President Donald Trump’s trade war, according to people familiar with the matter, speaking on condition they not be identified.

With all the great ideas Poilievre has makes you wonder why he lost a 25% poll lead, and why people just don't like the guy.  What was everyone thinking....

Easy.  Trudeau resigned, and Trump irrationally scared boomers into thinking Canada was actually going to be annexed.  Every age bracket under booms voted Conservative, the younger the bracket the wider the margin.  It was only boomers that were fooled.

Why did Canadians think Poilievre wasn’t the man to stand up to Trump?

Agree.  I think there's zero doubt about that.

I can't help but wonder what we all would think if the entire situation was stood completely on its head... by that I mean if internal combustion engines were a recent invention.

No more battery recycling woes, no rare earth metal deals with potentially hostile trading partners and no rolling blackouts due to an aging power grid. Would it be heralded as cheap, light weight, more environmentally friendly, lest wasteful etc?

Not a rhetorical question BTW... I have no idea. We haven't seen the real world effects of 100% EV ownership to know for sure but I suspect it isn't the panacea some believe it to be.

Nobody was fooled, and especially boomers who have been around long enough to know fact from fiction.  The impressionable younger generation liked his tough guy schtick, but women of all ages then and still don't like the guy.

Nah, they were hoodwinked, bamboozled.  Boomers are the ones always falling for the phone/text scams too.  That's why the polls are shifting, people are waking up to that reality.

Breaking.  Canada loses 66,000 jobs in August!  Yikes!  Don't worry though guys, Carney has a plan! LOL 🤣

I've never thought that.... simply because ICE is not a recent invention.  It's all we've known until the last decade of electrification and the evolution of EV's.

We know what the real world effects of ICE engines which is why the industry continues to evolve to EV's, albeit at a slower pace in North America right now.

Not only that.... other than drunk college aged jocks, most people who do security gigs for fun (as opposed to the high pay) will likely tell you that boomers, especially females of the species, are the absolute worst to deal with.

Personally though, I actually enjoy dealing with passive aggressive types, personality flaw perhaps but they always brighten my day. So many times I've seen their adult daughters (who are sweet as pie usually) sink into the passenger seat embarrassed by their mother's conduct.

I think you're right, there is a generational difference at play here but I don't know how that (in isolation) translates into voting preferences. My initial inclination based on random observation is to agree though... how's that for a wildly anecdotal opinion?

Do you think green power grid infrastructure (in a continental or even global context) is capable of supporting it all? Any concerns about supply lines and earth metals?

Germany didn't fair too well with their green power experiment. I'm wondering if we would be substituting one problem for another.

lol... well there you go, boomers fall for phone scams so had to have voted Liberal.  The younger generation who is angry with the cost of living (rightfully so) just got bamboozled by Poilievre's tough guy talk.

Given the tariff pressures applied, did you expect a robust report?  Job losses were in part time positions, with little changed in full time positions.  The US didn't have good jobs data report today either with losses in manufacturing and business services sectors and clear signs of a slowing economy and possible recession.  Maybe Poilievre can jump in and help save North America?

No, it's very obvious the grid infrastructure is aged and needs to be upgraded for the future.... be that EV's and the electrification of the world in general. There are more than enough critical minerals to support the evolution of EV's.  It's a matter of extracting them which the supply chain isn't able to do quickly as mines takes years to establish.

PP's conduct since he has parachuted into that safe seat has made me happy about my vote. Bro is a whiney bitatch

I'm a big supporter of EVs but mandating a minimum number 10 years out is a bit premature.

The tech is getting to the point that people that oppose them are going to run out of valid opposition.

Thanks...

Even though I haven't looked into it much I tend to agree. Might be a mistake to rush headlong into such things when an incremental approach would be more manageable.

We didn't do that with the infrastructure to support mass immigration. We certainly have the land mass to support it but still, big things take time, effort and money. I would define "mass" in this context as an ill advised action that exceeded the capabilities of the infrastructure required to support it; something that was (or should have been) reasonably apparent prior to embarking on the effort.

I sometimes think of my grandfather's experience, he went from horse drawn field artillery pieces in WW1 to supersonic flight, men on the moon, and medical breakthroughs he never could have imagined as a young man. It was incremental though... even though it appeared to happen fast it was 93 years in the making.

Cheers.

It was actually Carney that was talking tough during the campaign, elbows up! LOL

Pierre hasn't bamboozled anyone as he's had no legislative power to fix problems.  However, the Liberals certainly have, and have only made things worse over a ten year period.  It's clear that they have no answers to fix problems, only make them worse.  Classic snake oil salesmen!

I expected Carney to actually negotiate a deal with the United States, and mitigate job loss.  He's done nothing and actually folded to Trump.  Amazing negotiating skills!  LOL

Yes, pointing out the very real problems that Liberals have caused is whiny.  We should just continue to ignore them and pretend everything is ok.  Grow the f**k up and stop prioritizing personality over policy.  It has destroyed this country.

Imagine how Poilievre would be faring right now with zero business and practical experience in anything besides being a career politician.  He'd have been a deer in the headlights and sold us down the road to ruin from the get go because of his inexperience.

I keep hearing about Carney's supposed business and negotiating skills, but I've yet to see it.  I've seen him completely fold to Trump though.  Oh, and during the campaign he downplayed use of steel.  Actually asked the interviewer "how much steel to you use?"  And he thought that Canada produced most of America's semi conductors, yet it's only a fraction of a percent.  Yeah, he's an amazing business genius!  LOL

It's real hard winning a poker game when you show up with $20 in your pocket and the other guy has $2,000 in his....unless you get all the cards, which we certainly don't have.

Take your bias away for a minute.... If you honestly believe that Poilievre is more qualified in ANY respect of business acumen your fascination with him is deeper than I thought 😂

Canada to stall electric vehicle rules as Carney seeks to boost auto sector

https://financialpost.com/commodities/energy/electric-vehicles/canada-to-stall-electric-vehicle-rules-boost-auto-sector

But this is more of him being indecisive. He should have just scrapped it and sent a clear message to the auto sector, which is what they needed.  This 'maybe on maybe off' crap isn't useful.

Scrap it and then reconsider down the road. This waffling makes him look weak and ineffective,
