Here's the thing and it's something we need to consider. The Americans have never hit the quota because there's a quota. They sell a little bit of leftover productivity and not that much of it but they don't try to create supply that they can sell here because they know they can't

If those protections come off then American companies will know that if they increase capacity in production they can sell on our markets. But with those in place it holds them back

That's something to keep in mind. It's one of the reasons Donald is angry, because he knows that if they have the opportunity his farmers will sell more product up here and they will plan to, and they will increase production accordingly. 

Now you can say that's a good thing or it's a bad thing or whatever you want but it's important to keep in mind that one way or another it is a thing. Pretending like the cap isn't actually making a difference is simply not accurate. This is why Quebec is so afraid of losing the protection

IF sudeenly all of canada opens up tariff free, then the farmers can produce EVEN MORE and dump it here.  Their gov't will still want them to overproduce, but they will have a new market

Speaking of circles of life. It seems Canadians are pulling their collective weight and doing as much or more than our government to deal with Trump's tariffs.

Billions are being lost to the US economy simply through Canadians boycotting their goods, buying Canadian and especially Canadian tourists not travelling there.

Our ability to directly boycott the US with such effect is not something the vast majority of other countries plagued by Trump's tariffs can muster.

Simply put our side can take more time to consider it's moves and despite some obvious wounds we're probably doing far better than most.

Canadians, more or less, are avoiding US products when they can anyway. 

But there are some things that we just get from the US and can avoid it. No point raising the price of goods on average Canadians and inflaming this trade war further. Canada's inflation rate is really low right now. 

It will become very clear to Trump and his administrations that removing tariffs doesn't immediately mean countries will buy American. The environment he's created with his adversarial approach has soured much of the world on buying from the US or visiting there. 

Trade deficits will increase and inflation will soar for American consumer. No point in following the US off that cliff.

The first election I was eligible to vote in was 1968 and like most I voted for Trudeau in the original Trudeaumania. I have voted PC, Reform, Alliance and Conservative in every election since until this one.

There are a couple of reasons. My former MP and Harper cabinet minister decided not to run and the party picked an unknown who didn't attend any candidate meetings or give any interviews but still won by a landslide because the Conservatives could run a chimp in my riding and still win easily. Sorry but I just couldn't vote for that guy.

Another is that while PP is no Trump by any stretch of the imagination, many Canadians see a lot of similarities in his everything broken, everything bad, sloganeering, name calling campaign style and they don't like it, self included. It is clear now that the Conservative's lead in the polls was due more to Trudeau's unpopularity than thing else and as hard as it is for Canadian Trumpers to swallow, Donald Trump lost Pierre Poilievre the last election.

For me the choice was a gamble and for better or worse I gambled on Carney. Will I regret that in two years? Maybe but I sure hope not because I will always put my country ahead of any political party and if PP had won I would be saying the same thing.

So in instead of whinging and hurling insults maybe you should be asking yourself why many lifelong Conservative voters like me switched the last election.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just look in a mirror.

How will I vote in the next election? Right now I really have no idea.
