Many here have suggested that Canada is more robust social safety nets help prevent the sort of homelessness and poverty that we see in the states.

But it would appear that the opposite is true. In fact we have vastly more homeless people living in Canada than the Americans do.

It calls into question whether or not we are pursuing the right pass when it comes to poverty and homelessness in Canada. It also indirectly calls into question how we are addressing the drug epidemic as well as mental health issues. Whatever we've been doing, it's not working

The left defines the success of a program by how many people use it. So, if they start a program for homeless people and every year more homeless people access the program, it is successful.

I think you mean per capita, but yeah.

They actually have 2.5x as many homeless as we do, but their population is 10x as high as ours.

Now do prison population.

Why? Are you proud of having more jailbirds than we do up here? That's what happens when people like Brandon and Kamala jail black people for smoking pot.

Have a nice day Chrissy-Baby.

How is homelessness being defined there and is it the same in every country? I see a lot of Americans living in their cars for example. The most visible type is unsheltered, ie living rough on the street. Here’s a graph from the FT. A lot of UK homelessness is people in temporary accommodation whereas the US has an awful lot of hard-core homelessness.

I suppose if the truth bothered you enough you could rejig the numbers and rework the definitions till it stop bothering you if you wanted to :)

Because you believe that Senator Biden prosecuted illegal drug possessors like CA AG Harris? LMAO

Or maybe you believe that AG's should just ignore the law like YOU defend Trump's CRIMES. 🤮

Clue for you: legislatures make the laws, NOT individuals. Now you know. LMAO

They did, it seems you didn't like what they said and tried to reframe it  :)

What I illustrated for a start was that those numbers do not reflect the number of people per capita living rough on the streets. Britain’s numbers there are not in America’s league.

Which is exactly what I said. You chose to reframe it so that the numbers were more favorable to your point of view.

Have the end of the day with our social safety nets and drug programs etc we are actually experiencing higher homelessness then even somewhere such as the united states. That should give us pause, and force us to rethink our models. I'm not for a moment suggesting we should do away with the social safety net but it's clearly not doing as well as we'd like to believe

What I think should be said is this. Homelessness comes in many forms. The worst is living unhoused on the street. Clearly, America has a great deal of the worst kind. Regarding less severe forms, there is considerable variability in how the numbers can be interpreted.

Yeah, no.

If you start reading into the housing accommodations being provided, you start to see that it includes run-down housing, mold, damp conditions, insect infestations, animals...

You can't just presume that sleeping on a bench in a lovely year-round weather California coastal community is worse than living in some moldy hell hole of a house.

Well what I think should be said is this: All homelessness regardless of its form is very bad and for whatever reason we are dropping the ball and falling behind countries that we often look down upon for their lack of social services. That needs to be addressed

Have no idea why you are trying to defend homelessness and are okay with our current situation when obviously it is substandard even to the US. And I'm baffled while you're trying to argue there's a good homelessness and bad homelessness. I guarantee you probably wouldn't enjoy either if you had to experience it
