myata Posted April 11 Report Posted April 11 (edited) Not making up anything, just looking. This plan: "We have to increase our trade with America to build up the resources to stand to ... America". Makes sense? Wait but how we do that? To do more trade with America, these days, there's only one path: "bow your knee" and kiss his ring. So we gonna do that only to "build up and so on"? That works, right? Makes full sense... or was it only the first part? Is there any even remote possibility what this kind of word sh*t meal can be consumed by anyone short of severely damaged cognitive ability? - through a medical condition (understandable) or due to severe hemorrhaging by consumption of highly poisonous to a healthy brain maga propaganda? No such possibility. No way. Just doesn't exist in our sane reality. If it relies on dumb, brainless lies, nastiness, division and hatred - there has to be a reason for that. It has no better, more decent ways to convey its message because there's none in it. This is what it means and it's entirely factual. So let's keep this junk and sh*t to the insane place far away from our homes. Edited April 11 by myata Quote If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant

herbie Posted April 11 Report Posted April 11 She means PP's idea of an economic solution revolves around increasing trade with the US but ignores diversification. IOW become more dependent on trade with them instead of less. Yet another 'cantservaitive' do two things at once? (gasp!) attitude. Quote

AFAIK his idea of increasing our wealth and improving our economy is to take the bureaucratic chains off our national resource industry, and in fact, off all industries and businesses so they can get more business and foreign investment, and generate wealth, taxes, and jobs. Diversification? Ah yes, something Canadian governments have been pursuing for about fifty years now to no avail. But don't worry, that'll change under Carney! With more regulations and more taxes we'll definitely get more business and foreign investment coming here. Yessiree! Quote

PIK Posted Wednesday at 03:10 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:10 PM If anyone thinks we can move forward without trade with america is as dumb as carney is for bringing it up. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

But a lot of Canadians ARE that dumb. I see them all over social media, blithely saying screw the Americans, and let's stop selling them oil and uranium and electricity and the like and just find other trading partners. As if you can just look up 'other trading partners' online. None of them seem to have a clue what sort of economic turmoil will happen here if Trump decides to apply higher tariffs. But they're quite sure it won't be a big deal and Mr. Economist will be able to just slap it away and carry on as if nothing had happened. Of course, Mr. Economist is way more concerned with fighting climate change, and is likely to just keep spending and spending and borrowing and spending and jacking up carbon taxes because he's said repeatedly that he doesn't much care if that harms the economy. "Western society is morally rotten, and it has been corrupted by capitalism. This requires rigid controls of personal freedoms, industry and corporate funding. This is not a promise to make the lives of ordinary people better but temporarily worse. This will be a world of severely constrained choice, less flying, less meat, more inconvenience and temporarily more poverty. Assets will be stranded. Gasoline cars will be unsellable and inefficient properties will be un-rentable “ Mark Carney in his his book “ Values : Building a better world for all “ Quote

Most of the language from the inauthentic quote is pulled from a review of the publication, not the actual book, and could not be found in electronic or print versions of the text. You made me go back and think “how did I miss this in Carney’s book”? Turns out, my memory is fine and you’re quoting something that is a fake quote. Embarrassing. Did you know you were quoting lies, or did you just not check your source of the quote? Edited Wednesday at 08:20 PM by TreeBeard Quote

You made me go back and think “how did I miss this in Carney’s book”? Turns out, my memory is fine and you’re quoting something that is a fake quote. Embarrassing. Not that much. The cite you give says that exact quote was not in the book, not that it was wrong about what Carney was saying. Apparently it comes from a columnist who reviewed it. But that doesn't suggest the columnist was wrong in what he wrote. In his book Value(s): Building a Better World for All, Mark Carney, former governor both of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, claims that western society is morally rotten, and that it has been corrupted by capitalism, which has brought about a “climate emergency” that threatens life on earth. This, he claims, requires rigid controls on personal freedom, industry and corporate funding. Note the difference when the reviewer is giving actual quotes. Carney’s Brave New World will be one of severely constrained choice, less flying, less meat, more inconvenience and more poverty: “Assets will be stranded, used gasoline powered cars will be unsaleable, inefficient properties will be unrentable,” he promises. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/peter-foster-mark-carney-man-of-destiny-arises-to-revolutionize-society-it-wont-be-pleasant Quote

If it’s something Carney said, and not from the book, provide a citation for when and where he said those exact words. Quote "Western society is morally rotten, and it has been corrupted by capitalism. This requires rigid controls of personal freedoms, industry and corporate funding.
