It was seriously inappropriate.

First off it contains some ridiculous language, claiming that there are gays and such who are in fear of their actual lives from trump. As if trump is going to go around killing gay people. That's really over the top.

Second off they are using their position inappropriately. That's not what they were there to do. If every inauguration is going to become a political stunt like that then people will just lose faith in our institutions.

Thirdly there is zero chance of it being constructive. They have to know that there's no chance that this will somehow make trump feel better towards immigrants etc. I mean think about it, do you think he walked away from that thinking gosh now that I've been publicly embarrassed I should definitely be nicer to illegal immigrants? If anything he's going to hate them more. That was a completely useless way to try and address the issue. If you genuinely cared about the issue you would address a different way.

and finally they're somehow conflating "Mercy" with "allowing them to break the law".  Even God recognized man's right to have laws.  Portraying someone who has broken those laws with intent as a 'powerless victim' is nuts.
