Again... Let's try for solidarity.  Maybe half of the workers didn't ask for this, and some of the ones who did had no idea what it entailed.

Our system has set us up for this.  If there were more equality and merit in the system, people wouldn't see a schism between the promise and the reality.  They'd be less willing to turn the hotdog cart over...

Virtually none of that is true.

All of that was rejected by America in the last election, and the polls indicate that in Canada the rejection is going to be even larger.

What people want is opportunity. And that's what's been taken from them. That's what trump promised and kamala didn't. and that's what trudeau stole from canadians and what Poilievre promises to restore.

The left wings answer to absolutely everybody who disagrees with them is that "You just don't understand!". Like you're some teenagers who think their parents don't get what it's like to go through puberty.

They understand fine. They also understand what a negotiating tactic is. You seem a little unclear on both.

And let me remind you that any tariff money collected actually goes to the federal government's pockets which means they have more room to do things on tax reduction.

Trudeau will handle it but there is an obvious way to deal with this

I agree about it being a 'negotiating tactic'.  Border immigration, NATO contribution, and supply management come to mind. Not exactly new issues either, but issues that have been kicked around the last time Trump was in office. A 25% tariff would kill us especially if it included energy.

1. It's good to see your capitalist side. You might want to Branch out to sell bunkers and bomb shelters.

Rent them you mean on Airbnb.

2. I partied with MAGAS in South Dakota.  They're fine in person, as you might expect. They asked us what our politics was like and I laughed. I told them that we were far far to the left of the Democrats. By that time they'd already got used to us so we all just moved on.

I love being in tourism for just this very reason, everyone is always happy and politics is something we just leave tied to the dock. It's such a far far cry from commercial fishing.

Anyways, after having dealt with thousands of tourists from around the world now I have yet to see a single MAGA hat. I see various flags sewn to things, even the odd Canadian flag, but no MAGA hats.

We do man overboard drills whenever someone's hat blows off. I dazzle the passengers with a Williamson Manoeuvre, the crew snaps to attention with the pike pole and perform CPR on the hat once it's aboard...  Everyone cheers and claps but I bet if it was a MAGA hat at least half the passengers would be yelling "let it sink"!

Anyone else seen anyone wearing one in Canada? Canadian convoy doofuses don't count.

I call this "the flow of problems".

Someone has a problem, and if they can, they foist it on someone else.

But in cases like this, the Mexican and Canadian gov'ts are causing the problems for America, so it's actually their/our own problem coming home to roost.

They don't call you WestKremlinMan for nothing.

It's it just me or do Americans seem to leave their MAGA hats at home when they go abroad?

They used too sew Canadian flags on their backpacks, when visiting Europe and other countries. Pretty much all you need to know...

I wonder what percentage of hard core MAGA’s have ever left the country.

I saw a guy with one on the subway once in 2016. I was getting my phone ready to take his picture when he spotted me. I feel like he would have made it difficult.

So you're an entertainer now! Excellent

It's just part of the job but I admit a few of my one liners can inspire a mutiny or relief of duty. My first clue is when some crewman grabs the mic away.

And then THEY use my best lines. Oh well, you know what they say about imitation.

It certainly wouldn't do us any good that's for sure. At the very least it would be likely to crash our dollar.

And yes as you say he's going to walk in and say he wants this and this and that and that with regards to military spending border issues and supply management and then he'll negotiate a small amount to make it look like he was being reasonable and finally cave. In the meantime he'll pocket any tariff money he does get to help reduce his deficit which he's been criticized for in the past.

Trump is a bully, and uses bully tactics. And he hates Justin Trudeau and we'll be very happy to make Justin look like a weak little frail girly man yet again.

We will get through it. But let's not forget that Biden wasn't exactly a friend to Canada when it came to trade either. We have let ourselves get into a position where we are completely subservient after 10 years of Trudeau. Prior to that Obama talk tough on trade and harper talked even tougher back and we got what we wanted.

only NATO contribution was a problem for Canada...everything else is a lie.

A 25% tariff would kill American business too.

Donnie will be good for Canada as he will

1. Put pressure on Jr to drop the levies on oil

2. Complete the Keystone xl pipeline

3. Stop the flow of drugs from south America thru the US and into Canada

Nope, the rest of it is too as you are now seeing. Unless you don't consider a 25% tariff to be a problem for Canada.

You can't screw over a trading partner and expect them to still trade with you fair and square. That's just not how the world works. Trump didn't respect us the first time and we lost ground, Biden didn't respect us either and one of his first actions upon taking office was a slap in the face to our oil industry and then protectionism which we had to fight to get exceptions for and now we're back to trump who's looking at a tariff. And the US Has complained loudly about our supply management, border issues and other issues such as bringing in Chinese steel and passing it off as our own to bypass their tariffs on Chinese Steel.

When we abuse our relationship with them like that of course they're going to turn around and retaliate. Obviously Trudeau didn't think it was much of a problem same as you do and now you're all surprised that they're going to slap a 25% tariff? Please. We're lucky it didn't happen sooner. Now we'll have to negotiate from a position of weakness and try and resolve this
