Based on the rhetoric (from all sides BTW), It strikes me that people seem gleeful about joining the fray (eager might be a better word) and I'd observe  that this sort of eagerness usually prevails right up to the point that it evaporates, usually with astounding rapidity, in the face of unintended consequences.

By that I mean people who delight in poking bears into a seething fury usually act surprised at the predictable result of their efforts... especially if that result is random, infrequent, or unexpected. Intellectually they know it could happen, they just don't think that it actually will. 

The lower end of this spectrum (in a similar and equally predictable format) plays out at closing time every Friday night for bouncers all across the country. As you watch the inevitable train wreck develop, you wonder if the people bent on causing it really want what they seem to be asking for. When all is said and done the inevitable question becomes "what do you suppose they thought was going to happen?"   

Maybe the lesson here is in the number of college aged jocks (the bear pokers) who cry when the handcuffs come out.

It suddenly becomes very real for them at a very personal and visceral level, only after it's too late do they begin to consider how easily it could all have been avoided. 

How did a generation of people who smugly asserted that "words matter" become so detached from their own mantra?

That's bothsidism unless you can find an awful lot of evidence of conservative leaders calling for assassinations, political violence, and harassment and then ok'ing the fallout.

On top of that you need to find examples of conservatives twisting the Dems' words into serious lies to make Dems seem bigoted, and saying that the Dems are fascists without providing any evidence of it. 

This week we have Dems referencing the attack on Nancy Pelosi and comparing it actual assassination attempts against Trump, while ignoring the fact that Rand Paul was also attacked, and Steve Scalise and others were shot at the baseball game.

Do you have a video of Trump blaming the assassination of police officers on something that happened 150 years ago?

Do you have a video of some conservatives condoning rioting, looting, burning and the assaults of police officers and citizens?

Do you have videos showing conservatives threatening and harassing Dem officials in public, while Republicans said and did nothing?

And do you have dig up several examples of people talking about assassinating the president and some kind of severed-head effigy that were considered jokes by no less than a Republican president.

 

Can you show me similar rhetoric/acceptance of violence from the GOP or CPC? I'm honestly not aware of the last time prominent conservative celebrities, athletes or politicians called for assassinations and then Trump/Poilievre called it a joke.

The only issue that conservatives have had with the LGBTQ+++++ community over the past few years was drag queen story hour, and that's no joke.

I think dominatrix story hour with children would be ridiculous and unnecessary, and I don't know any conservatives who would support that or be in favour of it.
