Not that simple. Artists sign a contract with a distributor offering their music, usually with NO RESTRICTIONS on whoever pays the fee. Technically the buyer is not obligated to obey the artists' wishes on the matter unless the artist has negotiated a special contract allowing him to reject certain usage.

I suppose the DOJ is now preparing a slew of new charges against Trump for this 'crime'.😒

This isn't a copyright issue. Campaigns pay fees for the music they use, in most cases.

This is artists being lil b-itches because orange man likes their music.

We need a fifth factor: Toxic taint.

Most artists want nothing to do with the toxic Trump brand and his use of their music can dramatically harm the marketability of their own brands. Like most things Trump is affiliated with, the brand value falls through the floor.

Imagine releasing a piece of music that ends up being used as Trump's "hype" song? (shudder)

Better to leave that fate to Lee Greenwood, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock or one of a few other a-holes who can stomach it.

"Lawyers for Trump and his campaign wrote in a filing with the court that the Hayes estate and Isaac Hayes Enterprises, have failed to show that they own the copyright at issue and cannot show that they have suffered any harm. The campaign obtained a license from BMI Music in November 2022 authorizing it to use “Hold On, I’m Coming,” the filing says."

Won’t be the first time Trump’s lied about taking something that wasn’t his.

^Such ridiculous tolerance for FRAUD. And FELONY CONVICTED FRAUD.

Robo...

Every thinking human on Earth knows that fraud charge is a gross abuse of the law. From being convicted before the trial even started, to the 3 options that Tweenkie of a judge gave the jury.

You can scream all you like. But when this is all over...you'll once again be dining on crow.

You're a college dropout with NO KNOWLEDGE OF US LAW, nor a LAW DEGREE.

And certainly NO EXPERT on what "every thinking human on Earth knows."

AKA completely INCOMPETENT to make ^this judgement YOU POSTED.

It's just silly the way you to try to inflate your ridiculous IGNORANCE.

And pretend you know more about NYS law than a sitting judge and the DA both with YEARS of EXPERIENCE, Mr Dunning Kruger poster child. LMAO

You couldn't be less qualified to make a judgement about a state that you don't even live in.

Say hi to Mr. Dunning and Mr. Kruger next time you see them.

If I was an artist, an had a umber of hot songs, I would not let Trump use my music, since it goes against what I stand for.

If you were an artist, you likely were a nothing nobody before being signed by a record label that sells your music to a licensing outfit where anyone can buy rights to it and you will have no say in that other than crying about it on social media.

But, you can cry about it from your mansion collecting all those royalty checks.

I've already told you what I've learned about you. Even if you're accidentally right about pieces of the outcome, it's JUST DUMB LUCK on your part.

Certainly your guessing is NOT BASED on your professional expertise because you have NONE.

Well, I guess it comes down to who owns the copyright.. the artist or the record label. Either way, they can legally bar someone from using it in political events.

Not if they've entered into a standard contract which doesn't give them that right. IINM, that would be a special non-standard contract about which few bands care or know enough to anticipate needing.

You might have that authority if you anticipated the possibility and demanded that clause in your contract with the agency which shops temporary use of your copyright.
