the reason that we have considered homeschooling is not religious. It has to do with current public schools being so data driven and so solely focused on the result of a test and not the process. Well lets get back to the basics.

1 - there's NO information i could find ANYWHERE that suggests the right is homeschooling any more than the left.  So right off the bat the whole premise is pretty questionable.

2 - I posted SEVERAL studies showing home schooled kids are better socialized, score better on tests, and get into college/university at higher rates and succeed more.  Soooo the whole thing is stupid - everyone should WANT to educate their kids at home, the kids get a better education.

This whole thing is just weird and a perfect example of how the left can twist many facts to come up with a bizarre new reason to 'hate' on the right without justification.

A round peg in a square hole could be a sign of a higher IQ, certainly a sign of a creative nature.

Tests and hand-in assignments are really the only objective way to tabulate grades. I wouldn't trust a teacher who somehow handed out points for "participation" any more than I would a teacher who grades on the curve.

I tell the middle school students that they had better learn how to take tests, not just to get through school and graduate, but because the most important professions they may want to get into, (law, medicine, real estate, engineering, construction) require taking standardized state tests. There's nothing unnatural about being stressed about a test. That is perhaps the most human thing we can engage in, and it can be used as a tool to ace the test.

There ARE some public schools that are violated child molestation laws by inviting Drag Queers to come on campus and groom the children. I haven't seen the statistics per state so I won't say they are nationwide. (Of course, the State Of Florida has legislated some laws to protect public school kids from such abuse.)

Its a matter of teaching to the test. When the teachers are mandated to gear their entire curriculum and agenda to the questions on a specific standardized test.. that comes at the detriment of teaching process. How you get to the answer is just as important as the answer itself. 

I am the second in charge at an office and it drives me nuts that we get smart folks in who are so programmed to know answers that they are clueless when you throw even the slightest curve ball. If they knew process.. the curveballs would not be so daunting.

I knew a group of parents of children with mild/moderate learning disabilities. They worked together to home school their children. I think that’s a far better model than one parent pretending to be able to take their kids through middle and high school level math/science/English/etc.  Very few people can master all of that material.  
 

In any event, sometimes home schooling is not a religious/political decision, but a practical need, and I respect that very much.

The idea that anyone/parent can cover today's needed curriculum from elementary to middle school all the way thru highschool is unrealistic. The parent would need to be versed in ever facet of education for every single yr and for highschool courses in math alone just isn't feasible. So for those here who claim that somehow a homeschool education compares to an actual public school education is just kidding themselves.

And in reality most parents I see who want to educate their young are the least capable.

After all if you where able to do that then you'd be an actual educator making 120k a year with an ass kicking retirement and guaranteed healthcare for life.

I know of many home schoolers. Some lived in remote places where there was no public school. All the ones I knew moved to town, or moved the kid to a grandparent in town around Grade7 or 8 so the kid could learn some social skills. The parents would never admit it in public, but they knew they weren't capable of teaching beyond Elementary levels.

Of the home schoolers I know who lived where public schools were available, they taught their kids their own beliefs rather than facts. The kids severely lacked skills on how to deal with or accept others, carried their parents' prejudices, had only read what their parents 'allowed' them to read and if not for gov't regulated curriculum to learn math etc. would be challenged in that area too.

I heard the girls in my office talking about the daughter of a woman I knew... they were a couple Grade 12s themselves. Too much perfume, crappy makeup, wrong clothes, etc etc.
This girl was much smarter than either of her parents, but had been kept out of public schools her whole life and had few friends. So I told the kids she was home schooled by Jesus Freaks and honestly didn't even know such things, but was a good kid and they'd actually like her. They made that effort. And they ended up friends.

Several years later I met one of the girls at a gathering and she told me of things that you simply would not believe that poor kid wasn't taught.

In NY parents who wish to home school their children must provide written notice of intent to the school district superintendent. The school district must then respond to the family and provide a copy of the home instruction regulations as well as an individualized home instruction plan (IHIP) form to complete. 

From my experience most parents who want to homeschool for religious reasons or distrust of the public education system just can't cut the mustard and actually hurt their children in the process. Many give up and put their child back into the system only to be one or two grades behind kids their age.
