I don't mind paying taxes...do you ?  70% of Canada's oil/bitumen production is foreign owned...that benefits me.

Trump can make lots more "deals" to bring American jobs back from Canada and Mexico, taxes be damned.

And that's why this little Carrier deal has Trudeau worried....if Trump & Congress cut corporate taxes from 35% to 15%,  Canada is hosed.

If Trumps adds 35% tariffs...Canada is hosed.

If Trump ignores the Paris Treaty, Canada is hosed.

We'll see what kind of "deals" Trump makes. If he cuts corp. rate to 15%, you will get hosed. I think Trudeau's biggest worry is if Trump decides to visit Ottawa. I imagine many world leaders are cringing at the thought of how to dumb things down enough to entertain Donny boy.

But dumb things down they will, and no other nation in the world will be so dependent on what Trump does than Canada.

Japanese PM has already kissed Trump's ring, and he isn't even the president yet.

Who will "create" more jobs....Trump or Trudeau ?

Because they are so smart and Trump is dumb? I though Trump had a Neil Armstrong-like IQ in the 150s...maybe that's fake.

Trump could start by bringing his own business interests home from Mexico and China. He might then begin to get some credibility.

So about Carrier.........

Yeah, it's not easy for some lefties to stay on topic what with all the hand wringing.  I think Trump may do this kind of deal periodically until he can get the tax rates and such adjusted.  Sunny ways!

He's probably going to have to do it more than periodically now that he's signalled that you just have to threaten to leave and you'll get a sweet deal if you back down just a little.

Canada will be hosed.  Wongly, though, as we are the only people in NAFTA who actually play by the rules.

The US has set itself up to be the target of very biased trade - particularly from China - and needs to get back to work and protect what little is left of the capitalist economy.   It is granting Wall Street unlimited privilege to play at Casino Capitalism under the very mistaken belief in speculative gains as "economic activity" that exacerbates the situation.

Trump has never had his IQ measured. The statement that it's in the 150s comes from Trump, nobody else.

Paying companies not to move jobs is corporate welfare. Ultimately, it's a losing game. If you were a conservative you'd understand that.

Ontario does it all the time with the Auto Industry.

So forcing companies that move workers over seas but still sell their products here to pay a tariff is a bad thing now?

Ever do any business in China???  You have no idea what protectionism looks like - and since China is a predatory trader and the one that has bankrupted the American economy, I am sad to say that counter-tarrifs on ANYTHING that is damaging the real US economy is fair game at this point.

Yes, the may well cause a worldwide trade war and "depression", but that is something we need to hang on people who allowed trade without any kind of demand on equivalent standards being met by imported products and their production.

Trump seems to be creating a number of jobs for retired military guys. You know, guys who call themselves "Mad Dog" and such.

Right....so how many has Trudeau "created" ?   Trudeau wants to create more jobs in St. Louis (Super Hornets).

That's what happens when a nation becomes so dependent on one export market, and is slow to diversify.

No wonder Trudeau blinked on NAFTA before Trump is even inaugurated.

Quite true.

One the Super Hornets, though, a significant portion of that production will be done no doubt in Quebec - as part of the Federal government's full time job of pandering to its every whim to keep them in confederation (and no doubt feed the machine that kicks back a significant amount of money to the political machine).

We don't need an air superiority fighter, as our role is covered by MRCA far better.

"Creating jobs" in Canada is just like Obama did with QE - brag about corporate welfare handouts deals.

Why not, a few weeks ago it seemed that every topic somehow drifted into a Trump discussion so now we can have Trump topics drifting into Quebec politics.

You see, this illustrates the problem for me: you're right because you say you're right. Myself, I don't believe YOU, either.

I'm not a Conservative...nor a Liberal/NDP/Green.

I'm a pirate...yo-ho-ho. I don't belong to your world.

Argus:  thanks for pointing that out.   BUT: what makes you think that Trump is a "conservative"??

He's not. But all those who profess to be his admirers here seem to be styling themselves as conservatives.
