The Democrat progressives thought they could force a DACA fix by tying it to a funding bill.

Last year, a DACA bill never even got a vote in the House.

DACA is political poison.

Only became an issue in September.

This deal hasn't prevented another shutdown.

McConnell will be seen as a liar if DACA doesn't get a vote.

But now Paul Ryan can't use CHIP as leverage. If Trump signs this CR, CHIP gets funded for 6 years, even if there's another shutdown. BTW Trump tweeted that he didn't want CHIP in CR.

Guess he's lying too.

Nope..has been an "issue" for a very long time.

DACA can't get  a vote if it never gets to the floor.   CHIP and military pay was also used to force the Dems to cave.

U.S. media talking heads, even MSNBC admit that Trump won this round and that Democrats lost.

Illegals do not run the U.S. government.

Yep and in February that can't be used as an excuse anymore.

So the narrative will be much different. And another shutdown will be back on the table.

DACA has bipartisan support. The GOP will keep running out of excuses to continue to punt it.

The narrative will be the same....we don't shut down the government and deny pay and services to American citizens and legal residents for illegals.

"Dreamers" will have to wait for a bill and legal status...they are owed nothing.

The Democrats overplayed their hand and lost badly this round.

There have been 19 shut downs so far...just part of the game.   Dems lost because they cared more about illegals.

Democrats are getting pounded for their losing strategy....

Quote

...But over the weekend, Democrats increasingly came to realize they had maneuvered themselves into a difficult position that made many of the party’s moderate senators uncomfortable. Republicans were not distancing themselves from Trump despite his erratic swings on immigration policy. And while the Dreamers may be a highly sympathetic group, using them as a rationale for shuttering the government was not playing well.

The president and top Republicans had some success in framing the showdown as a case of Democrats putting the interests of “illegal immigrants” ahead of U.S. citizens, a line of attack Democrats felt they could not weather.

Lesson learned, racism is now normal and respectable to the extent that centrist Democrats won't stand up to it.This wind is clearly behind the Republicans.

While not an unexpected trend by any stretch, it's still a little incredible how easy it's been to persuade a society that it's problems are the fault of immigrants.

What is not incredible is that you expected something more than this, since a short review of history would reveal both party's shifting stance on these issues as they seek to one-up each other for political gain. Because, remembering history is not your forte.

Meanwhile, Fox is issuing News Alerts about the link between immigration and crime.

It's almost hilarious.

Wtf are you babbling about? I've had little if any doubt things have been and would move in this direction for years now. You'd realize that if you could pay attention but you can't so...you babble.

As always, we haven't seen anything yet. Well we have but, why drag history into the bloody obvious present?

The problem IS crime, not about immigration per se.

"Waycism" was plenty good enough for President Obama...he deported MILLIONS of illegals.

For sure, right along with increased surveillance by the state...extra judicial killings...the fear of right wing loathing runs deep and swift.

Actually history is one of many fortes I have. Its just that I think where we're heading is more important than where we've been.  Folks like you OTOH seem to relish the idea of a return to the ways of olde.

Meanwhile, if you weren't so busy paying attention to fluffing yourself up that you'd realize I might be talking about a somewhat higher expectation of society not politicians.  My bad for having a little too much faith or hope in people I guess.

If you look closely at the chart, the only significant variable over time is failed refugee claims. I suspect this has far more to do with people hopping on the refugee bandwagon after crisis, even though they may be far removed from the trouble.

I suspect it has more to do with the Conservatives requiring visas from a number of countries which produce a lot of fake refugees, tightening screening in overseas airports and making it harder for migrants to get here to apply for refugee status. However, the Liberals have now reversed some of that to make it easier for Mexicans and Romanians, for example, to get here visa free so they can apply as refugees. That would tend to make the numbers rise again except the Liberals are not very deportation-friendly, and from what I read almost none of those who are crossing the border have even had their first, cursory interview yet because the system is so overloaded. They'll likely be years winding their way through the system before they fail - if, indeed, they fail. The success rate for refugee applicants has risen a lot since the Liberals came to power.

Really? Do you have any evidence to support that? According to the Canadian Council for Refugees: The CCR is deeply disappointed at the low level (7,500) for Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs). The 2017 level is below the annual average of GAR arrivals of 7,600 from 2000 to 2015. It is particularly distressing that Canada would  not increase its commitment at a time when the global need for resettlement places for refugees is greater than ever (UNHCR projects needs for 1,190,000 refugees to be resettled in 2017)

Obama had plenty of time to solve the DACA problem when he was dictator but for some reason did not. Now all of a sudden the democrats want to make it an issue. These dumbocrats just keep showing just how hard they are trying to bring down Trump. The only problem here is that they keep trying to do that to themselves. What a bunch of loser liberal buffoons.

DACA is political poison alright because the dumbocrats have now decided to make it poisonous. And now it is left up to Trump to really do something about it and try and fix the problem.

dumbocrats? Really, is that all you have? How about growing up.

You conveniently ignore the Republican controlled Congress that stalled all progress, but then it more convenient to blame 'dumbocrats'.

The Republicans (president + Congress) made great progress...deporting more illegals as required by federal law.

It would appear as though all three levels of government in Canada have quotas now where white people need not apply. One can see it all around happening in government departments, businesses, and on TV. It's all there just look for it. Trudeau seems to feel that if say the population of Canada is 10% Asian than that should be reflected in those outfits already mentioned.

I want less not more refugees in Canada. You liberals will say or try anything to try and flood Canada with only third world refugees, eh? You have to be a Soros supporter alright. It shows.
