Polled Canadians prefer Trump over Trudeau on economic policies.   Trudeau is preferred for expertise on smart phone selfies.

Polled Americans would prefer to have Trudeau as their president. Trump still has to show his economic policies are something more than just placing a bunch of his billionaire buddies in positions where they can suck on the taxpayers teats and actually create some jobs. That is aside from those low paying jobs in Bangladesh making his shirts.

Maybe after a couple of generations, but not if you're incorporating your own culture.  Again, have a look at Muslim neighbourhoods in London or Paris or chinese neighbourhoods in Vancouver.

I work with 2nd immigration kids in their 20s who grew up in Richmond Hill, watching Much Music.  They are more Canadian than a lot of older folks, especially because they don't hate immigrants.

The "Muslim neighbourhoods" think is a myth.  I knew those neighbourhoods in Paris and they have been around for 50 years.  Only since 9/11 have hate mongers discovered them and tried to make them a think.

But again, I am interested in the problems of culture.  Find me some academic and rigorous STUDY on this and we can talk.  Otherwise, you are just asking me to buy into your opinion.  I am no sooner going to do that than you are.  Let's not waste bandwidth talking about that - go find me some sources we can build a discussion on.

Apparently Donald has raised his daughter to be just as hypocritical as is he.

Shouldn't he sign one of those big photo-op executive orders to put a tariff on Ivanka wear?

I read about this...

Sorry, but immigration is the way to go.  You can't put up walls to keep people AND money out.  They seem to go together and if you have some numbers that say otherwise, do send them to Trump's people and they might give them to him.

This is that same attitude Sam Harris and Bill Maher were criticizing in a video posted on another topic.

As Harris said about this " you don't have to be a fascist or a racist or even a Trumpian, to not want to import people into your society who think cartoonists should be killed for drawing the prophet. That's a totally rational thing not to want. And the Left has been demonizing anyone who wants to talk about this."

Your understanding of Muslims looks to be very superficial. If you actually really knew Muslims, you would know that religion is not a deciding factor as to who they are. Muslims come from many different cultures. For example, a Saudi Muslim is much different than an Indonesian Muslim or a Turkish Muslim or an Iranian Muslim.

What do you think the odds are they all hate Jews, think gays are disgusting and should be in jail or dead, and believe women must dress modestly and do as their men tell them to do?

Better question Argus why won't you travel to one of these muslim countries say Turkey or Malaysia and see how they will respond....

A side note on the questions of culture and the Trumpian phenomenon:

I reject the idea that these things can't be discussed.  I'm interested in such topics also.  The problem is that they're never discussed in an objective enough way in a public forum, mostly because those who want to discuss it most come to the discussion with an agenda.

Doesn't everyone come here with an agenda, including you? Your agenda is open borders, the more the merrier, the more difference, the more wonderful. If I describe it improperly, please correct.

Because I like countries which have real bathrooms.

Guess consumers are just putting their money where Trump's mouth is.

Is that it, or are retailers just washing their hands of something controversial? Progressives in Canada are demanding the Bay stop selling Ivanka's stuff, for example, or face a boycott, so I'm sure their counterparts in the US have been just as active.

Meaning? What has that got to do with painting all muslims the muslims with the same brush by asserting they hate gays and jews...

Meaning there is the West, and then there is the rest (largely not abiding by the rule of law, unreliable food/drinking water, mass corruption, violence, etc), and I'm largely uninterested in spending time in the latter. All Muslim states belong in that category.

As for my brush, it's based on polls and surveys, not to mention those country's behaviour.  Malaysia, for example, is far from the middle east, but that really doesn't matter. It has been described as one of the most antisemitic countries on Earth. Note that there are no Jews there.

There is no context to this conversation as it is based on speculation. But seriously why is it that you use the barometer always set on all muslims hating gays? To just attach all the corruption squarely on muslims is generalising and quite discriminate. But I am sure you know that already.

Absolutely...just look what happens when Canada tries to sneak seal products into the U.S. or Europe.  Same motivations....

Economics trumps Virtue.

O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.

https://quran.com/5/51

Say, "Shall I inform you of [what is] worse than that as penalty from Allah ? [It is that of] those whom Allah has cursed and with whom He became angry and made of them apes and pigs and slaves of Taghut. Those are worse in position and further astray from the sound way."

https://quran.com/5/60

Jews are cursed by Allah to be as apes and pigs, despised. Muslims are not to take Infidels as friends. This according to the Quran as opposed to some 'expert'.

The reason I raise that is because I like to point out the hypocrisy of western progressives, who have been adamant in their support for gay rights (and now transgender rights) and their vitriol and condemnation of anyone who disagrees over the past decades, but are now enthusiastic supporters of a group of people who largely despise gays.

And when referring to a billion and a half people, I don't think you can help but generalize. Muslims are hardly the only corrupt countries out there, it's true, but most Muslim countries appear to be awash in corruption, wherever in the world they're located.

In any event, I think the position Trump has laid out for Americans is one which takes advantage of their disapproval of the habits, behavior, culture and values of other peoples, particularly Muslims, and their basic desire to not have too many of them in their country. It's a powerful sentiment, and it has and is working for him. The media and progressives might be up in arms over this 'ban' but not a lot of the heartland. More Americans support it than oppose it.

If I recall you were not a supporter of Trump.... Where do you stand about his policies?

Being bigoted against an entire group, some of which may also be bigoted, is still bigotry. Progressives get that.

Most of them seem to be pretty stupid.
