August1991 Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) IMHO, this is a good thing, like Nixon - in the short run - for ordinary people in Cuba and in America. Obama = Nixon. But Reagan was right in the long run: "Tear down this wall." ===== This is bad for the Democratic Party. Looking at November 2016, Obama, Democrats, HRC: I suspect that many American voters view the Democrats as now defending foreign powers, working /helping foreigners. Trump helps Americans, and like Reagan or Churchill, is correct in the long run.. Edited March 22, 2016 by August1991 Quote

I suspect that Trump may well turn this next presidential election into a referendum on this very question: Is America good or bad? I suspect that Trump may well turn this next presidential election into a referendum on this very question: Is America good or bad? Well it certainly is an interesting question. Of course the GOP would like to take over the WH, but it seems to me they don't want to do it ubder Trump, and I don't blame them. I think we all understand that his blather is likely a lot worse than his bite, but, how can anyone be sure. But here's a thought, can you imagine the sigh of relief from south of the border if they had another Obama in the race? If I was an American right now I might be thinking about tweaking that two term limit thing. Quote

Obama has opened the door a nudge to really good cigars. and a lot of nice beaches. You realize the Democratic primaries are only half over and Clinton is only ahead by 58% to Sanders' 42%, right? In addition, Clinton's stronghold in the South is all dried up and we're moving on to much more Liberal/Anti-establishment territory like Washington, Idaho and Oregon. Point is, Obama nudged a door that should have been open decades ago. If/when we get an actual Progressive in office, that door will be opened much wider, as will others. On the other hand, if Clinton gets into office, that door may end up being nailed back shut with her war-mongering history. And don't worry about Trump. He's hated by Republicans more than Democrats. Any term of his will be nothing but a quagmire of red tape, and non-action by both sides, until his 4 years is up. The worst he'll do is make us look like global idiots. Worry more about the "Party" candidates; they're the ones with access to Armageddon Quote

But I can't imagine how many doors would be soundly nailed shut were Trump to head to the WH. Of course he would have to step back from a lot of his bombast, but most I reckon would view him as a loose cannon based on what he has, and continues to spew. It will be interesting to see how the GOP will try to rake him down. Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 I hope any resulting Cuban diplomats and their families in the U.S. doesn't bring drug dealing murderers like that Canadian consul general in Miami. That would not be good for Cuban - U.S. relations. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

betsy Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 (edited) How come no one greeted Obama when he landed in Cuba? They showed the family touring, but no other high ranking ministers to see them around. To think that this was supposed to be major event (an understatement)......you'd think that at least some high-ranking ministers (if Raul Castro can't make it) would've been around. Also, when Obama was shown talking with Castro.....all on the Obama side were all smiles (looking ingratiating), whereas Castro looked so serious! Edited March 25, 2016 by betsy Quote

Except what news clips I've seen from tv made Obama look like an ingratiating fool, who's been publicly snubbed and treated as such by Castro. Obama wasn't accorded the proper protocol given to any visiting Presidents/Dictators/Pope. And here he was, opening and providing relief for CUba. Representing the USA.....that's humiliating. First time I heard that. I'm not a Catholic. So, I don't really care about the Pope.
