IMHO, this is a good thing, like Nixon - in the short run - for ordinary people in Cuba and in America. Obama = Nixon.

But Reagan was right in the long run: "Tear down this wall."

=====

This is bad for the Democratic Party.

Looking at November 2016, Obama, Democrats, HRC: I suspect that many American voters view the Democrats as now defending foreign powers, working /helping foreigners.

Trump helps Americans, and like Reagan or Churchill, is correct in the long run..

Not me. I suspect it makes Democrats look like adults.

Trump is an idiot who doesn't help America at all, unless you like your country looking like a joke on a soap opera. Obama has opened the door a nudge to really good cigars. and a lot of nice beaches.

Well. Nixon negotiated detente. Reagan had another negotiating tactic.

rotary, America is largely a good society. Do you disagree? I suspect that Trump may well turn this next presidential election into a referendum on this very question: Is America good or bad?

Vote for Trump = a vote for America;

Vote for Democrats = vote for Socialists, Venezuela, Cuba, Africa, screwed-up poor countries, dictatorship, shared poverty.

Well it certainly is an interesting question. Of course the GOP would like to take over the WH, but it seems to me they don't want to do it ubder Trump, and I don't blame them. I think we all understand that his blather is likely a lot worse than his bite, but, how can anyone be sure. But here's a thought, can you imagine the sigh of relief from south of the border if they had another Obama in the race? If I was an American right now I might be thinking about tweaking that two term limit thing.

You realize the Democratic primaries are only half over and Clinton is only ahead by 58% to Sanders' 42%, right? In addition, Clinton's stronghold in the South is all dried up and we're moving on to much more Liberal/Anti-establishment territory like Washington, Idaho and Oregon.

Point is, Obama nudged a door that should have been open decades ago. If/when we get an actual Progressive in office, that door will be opened much wider, as will others. On the other hand, if Clinton gets into office, that door may end up being nailed back shut with her war-mongering history.

And don't worry about Trump. He's hated by Republicans more than Democrats. Any term of his will be nothing but a quagmire of red tape, and non-action by both sides, until his 4 years is up. The worst he'll do is make us look like global idiots. Worry more about the "Party" candidates; they're the ones with access to Armageddon ;)

Well it's all very interesting to say the least. But I can't imagine how many doors would be soundly nailed shut were Trump to head to the WH. Of course he would have to step back from a lot of his bombast, but most I reckon would view him as a loose cannon based on what he has, and continues to spew. It will be interesting to see how the GOP will try to rake him down.

Mean while female protesters are roughed up by Cuban authorizes while Obama was there.

Just curious, how many here remember when JFK was up against Russia and Cuba about Russia getting those missiles out of Cuba? I remember just home from school and it was all over the TV, that we have a nuke war.

I hope any resulting Cuban diplomats and their families in the U.S. doesn't bring drug dealing murderers like that Canadian consul general in Miami. That would not be good for Cuban - U.S. relations.

Please.

The Ladies in White are given far more leniency than they deserve. The protest gets dispersed, and the people get released. We should have more of that kind of protester crowd control here.

....

For Democrats, it's over. She won. On the Republican side, Trump has won. For both, it remains only a question when they get a majority of delegates.

According to the NYT, Trump crosses over in June. Rodham-Clinton in May.

Make no mistake, Lerxst: in the 2016 US presidential election, American voters will choose between Donald Trump and Hillary Rodham.

How come no one greeted Obama when he landed in Cuba? They showed the family touring, but no other high ranking ministers to see them around.

To think that this was supposed to be major event (an understatement)......you'd think that at least some high-ranking ministers (if Raul Castro can't make it) would've been around.

Also, when Obama was shown talking with Castro.....all on the Obama side were all smiles (looking ingratiating), whereas Castro looked so serious!

And then there were those "random" bombings in Brussels.

Nobody cared about Obama or Cuba!

I know.

Except what news clips I've seen from tv made Obama look like an ingratiating fool, who's been publicly snubbed and treated as such by Castro.

Obama wasn't accorded the proper protocol given to any visiting Presidents/Dictators/Pope. And here he was, opening and providing relief for CUba.

Representing the USA.....that's humiliating.

c'mon... Castro was at the airport to send Obama away!

speaking of the Pope... who unsuccessfully tried to get the Stones concert shifted (away from 'Good Friday') - given the Pope's representation, is that also, as you say, humiliating?

First time I heard that. I'm not a Catholic. So, I don't really care about the Pope.

Speaking of the Pope, and you seem to be abreast with news about him.....is it true, he's going to take down the walls of the Vatican to show the example of being a Christian?

The Brussels bombings were tragic but the normalization of relations between the US and Cuba will be a far more important in the long term, than one more atrocity in an ongoing war.

Ouch!

Fidel Castro just wrote a very blistering letter and threw a pie right on sickeningly ingratiating Obama's face!

Ehem. Yo, Mr Obama.....they don't need your presents!

Who met Obama at the airport.....befitting a visiting President?

Especially so if this is such an important visit? No one!

You think Fidel didn't have anything to do with the kind of reception Obama got?

The two Castros really socked it to Obama!
