WestCoastRunner
I've made some really good decisions for myself. Why should I be taxed for making good decisions, to help out people who made bad ones? I could have been drinking all night partying like a animal. I bet I would have enjoyed it, But I made the responsible decision to go to bed and show up at work. Why am I being taxed more on my ability to make good decisions? Because you are a humane person? Freddy
Shouldn't I be taxed less? Shouldn't I be rewarded for my ability to make good decisions?
WestCoastRunner
Shouldn't I be taxed less? Shouldn't I be rewarded for my ability to make good decisions? Sure, Is there a scorecard we can keep track of?
Freddy
Because you are a humane person? Maybe I should stop making good decisions and enjoy myself. Might as well go along for the free ride
On Guard for Thee
I know, I don't get the blaming here. Well this thing is all over the map: to start with we should tax single parents, (well apparently single mothers) then we shouldn't use tax money to help them. These boys should get their stories straight beforehand I guess. Don't hold your breath waiting though.
Freddy
Sure, Is there a scorecard we can keep track of? Give me a tax credit for being with my wife. Give me a tax credit for my kids doing great in school Give me a tax credit for spending time on vacation with my kids Give me a tax credit for showing up at work everyday Give me a tax credit for not consuming drugs Give me a tax credit for not drinking and driving Give me a tax credit for not gambling Give me a tax credit for staying healthy Give me a tax credit for not smoking Give me a tax credit for everything I do well. Maybe then people would bother trying to take good decisions
Topaz
Frankly, if all levels of government did a better job of tracking down these absent fathers, then single mothers wouldn't be a problem for some people.

On Guard for Thee
Well, there you go. We aren't so bad, are we? I couldn't have asked for a stronger, more loving person, may she rest in peace. She worked damn hard and I,m glad she wasn't taxed under some crazy redneck idea born out of not wanting such people.
bush_cheney2004
To be fair, Shady's inane comment was really his childish way to protest the idea of a carbon tax. Nope...it was actually a very clever and logical challenge to proposals for inane carbon taxes. This thread and associated responses indicate that he hit the mark. Bravo ! Where is your buddy Shady anyway, didn't he start this thread... Edited June 10, 2015 by On Guard for Thee

Shady
What a messed up thought. Tax single parents. Come on Shady. Support your argument. Well, I was told by another forum member that we should tax things that we don't want, like carbon. So even though that sentiment is rather juvenile, I figured why can't it apply to other things? Instead of subsidizing single parenthood, what if we taxed it instead? Consider it my version of a modest proposal. What if singles knew that they wouldn't be getting free money for their illigimate kids? What if they knew they'd instead be getting less? Would more people think twice before getting pregnant or getting somebody pregnant? Would people take more responsibility if they knew the money for kids gravy train was coming to an end? No...just admiring the proposal and resulting contortions. It was a keen exercise in rhetoric method.

Unfortunately, this isn't how it works with kids. Single moms or dads exist with kids. Kids happen. For better or for worse and we are left to raise them. Do you understand the concept of 'a village raises a child'?

At least you had the decency in your latest to, sort of, admit that men may also bear some responsibility here. And for a more basic mathematical concept, how would you propose to tax someone who is in a position were they need to be subsidized. Maybe America style and just throw them in jail perhaps...
