Topaz
The feds revealed the logo they will use for the celebration of Canada's 150 year but many Canada's just don't like it, do you, thoughts? I don't it looks cheap and child-like. http://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/newsmaker-of-the-day-the-canada-150-logo/
Michael Hardner
Hey Topaz, even though we're wary of people over-using images in threads, in some cases it's acceptable, in other cases helpful, and in this case it's essential to the discussion. Here's the logo image:
Black Dog
That definitely looks like something someone with no design training came up with in a day. The more interesting angle, though, is the fact that the Tory government didn't pay anyone for their labour on this.
GostHacked
I could do better. This is terrible. Ugly.
Boges
It looks like an Origami Maple Leaf. Is it meant to look that way to be multicultural?
GostHacked
It looks like an Origami Maple Leaf. Is it meant to look that way to be multicultural? Quite possible, but that does not give it a sense of togetherness. Everyone has their own little piece.
Boges
Quite possible, but that does not give it a sense of togetherness. Everyone has their own little piece. That's Canada. We don't ascribe to the Melting Pot mentality that the Muricans do. Case in point, Brampton, Ontario.

Keepitsimple
I kind of like it - art is always subjective with opinions all aver the map.....but I think this is a good mix of colour and our Maple Leaf. I certainly don't think it's ugly.....and think how proud the contest winner is. And hey - look - it's not monopolized by the usual Conservative Blue. Big Guy
Art is in the eye of the beholder. I like it. I especially like the fact that is a student design and cost us almost nothing. Oh Canada!
Mighty AC
I like it! It's a very cool and modern logo that still pays homage to the centennial symbol. There is a fountain in my town built in the shape of the centennial logo that works about fifty percent of the time. Hopefully we'll replace it with the new one. bush_cheney2004
That's Canada. We don't ascribe to the Melting Pot mentality that the Muricans do. Nope...you just define yourselves that way....not Murican. Edited April 30, 2015 by bush_cheney2004
Black Dog
There is symbolism in almost every logo. Ariana Cuvin, a second-year student in the University of Waterloo’s global business and digital arts program, said the diamonds and colours in her design are not representative of anything in particular. “I just wanted to go with something very simple,” she said
On Guard for Thee
Well I guess the upside is the conservatives for once got us our moneys worth. Now, about that F 35...
cybercoma
Why would a party with absolutely no respect for the arts pay someone in the creative industries an honest and fair wage for their work?
Topaz
These Conservatives show no respect for anyone , even each other, an MP could get thrown under the bus.
Derek 2.0
Why would a party with absolutely no respect for the arts pay someone in the creative industries an honest and fair wage for their work? The art student that won the design contest received $5000..........If the Government had given a private design firm a contract, people would be bitching & moaning about that....... I'm sure the young lady that did win, and her family, are very proud.....

Remiel
They should really just have a poll asking the simple question: How eager are you to buy a shirt with this logo on it on a scale of 1 to 10? Personally, I would say a 2, and that is being generous. Not something I would go out of my way to wear at all.

Especially when there are all those students around you can exploit. The gal herself states the design wasnt really meant to mean anything. Its only the countries anniversary...nobody cares, do they...
Hydraboss
Why the hell does Canada need a "symbol" for 150 years? This reminds me of Harley Davidson...the 100th anniversary editions were kinda cool...until the 105th anniversary editions were released...and then the 110th anniversary editions..... What a waste - not the 5k paid to the student (good for her). I mean the amount of cash that will be spent from this point on promoting this crap.
