Those suggestions are read by Greg. He does indeed read and respond to them.

Greg? You mean the guy who labeled this a 'bitch-fest' (waldo paraphrasing liberty), threw his hands up and walked away? By the by, any updates on that many, many months ago teaser about a "new board/look"?

It's no wonder there is a degradation in status updates when there is no effort to improve the quality of this forum regardless of the suggestions/complaints that have been given time and time again.

You got an opinion.

Hey that's great!

Guess what, so does every other single poster on this site!

What you call degradation, I call a smashing success!!!

From I have seen, it's YOU that needs improving!

I've never seen a response from Greg since I joined.

hey now sensitiveBoss! Why did you presume your status updates were in that suggested degradation mix?

There is a clear divide on this site among posters as to where we stand on the status updates!

You know that as well as anyone here. You also know as well as to where we each stand.

The BOSS says the status updates stays!

So back off buddy!

I introduced a topic today about Linda Griffiths. If anyone knows about arts and culture and the Toronto scene, they would know about Linda. She died of breast cancer and I had no where to comment on her death except in the 'arts and culture' section, althought she deserves a topic in the federal section. I would really love to have sections for women, broken up into different sections. This forum is so male dominated with male subjects that it is incredibly boring for a canadian woman to engage in topics.

It just seems like I am contributing to male topics from a female perspective. It gets so incredibly boring. Why can I not contribute to topics from a female perspective on a canadian political forum based on female perspectives. I do believe we represent at least 50% of the canadian public. Except when I do come at a topic from a female perspective, I am beaten down by men. Where are the women? Where are the forums from a female perspective. Hello?

Not sure what you mean by a women's section.

Would it be a section dedicated to only women's issues - then who would decide what is a women's issue as opposed to general issue.

Would it be a section where only women would be encouraged to comment? How do you identify gender in this format?

I have difficulty imagining what issue would be a "women's issue" in that men would not have a point of view nor have the opportunity to comment.

I would not agree with your recommendation in that the identification of any issue as to the gender to which it belongs is arbitrary and/or subjective.

Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

There are plenty of sections that can be for women as I have suggested but have received no response from Greg or Charles much as Michael Hardner would like to lead everyone to believe.

I have suggested: science and technology for women

health research for women

I really don't know how it would be handled or addressed. I am just offering up suggestions. A forum that talks about ships and boats, and guns etc is not an enlightening topic for women. However, if this forum does not want women to participate, than carry on with the status quo.

Pretty narrow (and sexist) point of view. There are plenty of enlightened "women" interested with ships and boats and guns.

.....

I suggest that you are stereotyping women. I know a number of ladies who are not only interested in ships and boats but also serve on them. Guns are also a subject that is not gender specific. There are males and females who have very strong opinions on their use, ownership, registration and misuse - as we have seen in this forum.

Perhaps you can explain how "science and technology for women and health research for women" would differ from "science and technology and health research"?

Good grief. Can we not expand on the topics here that may relate to women. Come on guys. Give it up!

Are the men here threatened by women topics that may come up?

There is no section dedicated to ships, boats and guns..........the topics come up in various sections. Is there someone stopping you from creating topics in the various sections, on issues and affairs directly related to women? I could be wrong, but the creation of said topics that interest you, should be something that you start........If you build it, they might come.

I have contributed my suggestions to Maple Leaf. I have suggested categories for women - science and technology etc and for the most part they have been ignored. Trust me, I do not like the categories. They are targeted towards men and I would like to see some differences between the women and men categories. If you guys don't agree, then ok. You have spoken. I have given my suggestions.

If we had a half dozen women here suggesting topics about canadian politics, do you think they would bring up ships, guns etc. Let's get real.

Sorry - I didn't mean to imply that you would receive any kind of response within any timeframe. I don't think I did [imply it] either. I simply said that Greg reads these threads.

There's not much you can do to move along requests such as this, given that Greg et al. are basically volunteering here, ie. this is not a viable "business" or anything like that.

Requests such as these, are really just requests for favours.

That said, issues of interest to women in this day are political (hence the hysterical overreaction from men on MLW) so I think a forum for that would be a good idea.

I have no more influence than anyone else here, though.

Thank you. I did not receive any response from Greg or Charles and I assumed there would be hysterical overreaction from men on MLW. Thank you for that recognizance.

I hope that this dated forum can introduce sections for women.

i did not receive any response from Charles or Greg. However, as a woman, I would like some kind of recognition that they are looking towards introoducing more topics related to women in politics. We do have thoughts towards progressive politics.

Any chance you could expand on the "hysterical overreaction from men" thing. I missed it.

I think any attempt to segregate by gender would be wrong.

Edit> Actually, let me rephrase that: It would be irrelevant. It wouldn't change where I post, or on what subject, and I'm sure no others would feel any restriction, either. After all, I only have a wife and daughters. Women's issues are my issues.

BC responded to this topic "adeptly" as usual. He put "women" in quotes. I shudder to think what that is supposed to imply, but who cares. Back to the point, I wonder if women would have any sort of hesitation to identify as such, and if doing so would influence the responses they recieve.

Just a reaction from some of the responses I gleaned. I think somebody suggested that it would need a special moderator.

I agree. I don't think adding a forum on gender topics, or something like that, is segregation at all.
