The interview was with the person about his own beliefs, not the character he plays on the show.

The line between these things is fuzzy, especially since the 'person' being interviewed does so as part of a PR push for the show itself.

The grandson is a real person, so your question doesn't make sense. It's like asking what Archie Bunker's grandson thinks of his racist comments. There's a character and a real person as far as I know.

No, Tony Soprano was a fictional character played by James Gandolfini. Phil Robertson may be playing a made up persona but its name is still Phil Robertson. If it is not really him, he should either call it something else or accept what comes from it.

Is reality TV defined just by the characters using their real names or doesn't that apply either?

The started growing beards as a thing to do before the start of duck season many years ago. The picture from Us magazine is at least 10 years old, maybe more.
