Shady Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 I'm not familiar with the grandson character. Not any character, his grandson in real life, who is black. Anyways, perhaps you shouldn't be commenting on a show you don't know anything about. It's kind of like commenting on a book you've never read. Rather pointless. Quote
Shady Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 That's true, although people submit complaints and boycott fictional characters as well. Look at all the groups out there trying to get people to boycott Miley Cyrus. Hey where's Sarah Palin to stand up for Hannah Montana? Miley Cyrus isn't fictional. She's a real person. And no, I don't know of any groups boycotting or trying to get people to boycott her. Quote
Shady Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Clearly there's a market for bigotry, and A&E will follow the money! Just like other networks follow the money of other bigoted programs. Except usually those programs are anti-Christian or anti-conservative, so it gets a pass. You just need to grow thicker skin like others have had to. Quote

Argus Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Exactly. The question, though, is for Sharkman not me as I was answering his question. Since I don't watch the show, is the Phil Robertson character somewhat like Tony Soprano ? If so, that would make sense. All they are is ignorant southern white trash who, in no small measure due to the show, managed to make a lot of money. Think of them as the hairy redneck version of the Kardashians, but not as classy or sophisticated, who pray a lot. jacee Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 All they are is ignorant southern white trash who, in no small measure due to the show, managed to make a lot of money. I disagree. They are smart, educated and were already rich, from the family duck caller business, I believe. They represent the views of many, Sarah Palin et al. I haven't seen the show. I assume they're funny too. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 The interview was with the person about his own beliefs, not the character he plays on the show. The line between these things is fuzzy, especially since the 'person' being interviewed does so as part of a PR push for the show itself. The grandson is a real person, so your question doesn't make sense. It's like asking what Archie Bunker's grandson thinks of his racist comments. There's a character and a real person as far as I know. And I'm not commenting on the show; Sharkman asked a simple question: "exactly what Robertson said about Blacks that was racist? " Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
Wilber Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) If you regard him as mostly fictional, then what's the issue to discuss? It's like be outraged at Tony Soprano's perceived racism. No, Tony Soprano was a fictional character played by James Gandolfini. Phil Robertson may be playing a made up persona but its name is still Phil Robertson. If it is not really him, he should either call it something else or accept what comes from it.Is reality TV defined just by the characters using their real names or doesn't that apply either? Michael Hardner Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 Just a random thing - I finally saw a trailer for their show... maybe because I'm watching cable TV for the first time in awhile. The picture from Us magazine is at least 10 years old, maybe more. Quote

Well the swamp costumes you refer to are just regular duck hunting attire. As a Toronto web tech guy, I'm assuming you don't do a lot of duck hunting now or have in the past. Just a guess. Quote

Sorry but the clothing they wear just looks brand new to me. Like I said, the costume boy likely picked them out and held them up against the preppies to see how they would look before telling them what to wear... Here's one of them relaxing with the fam: I don't think one should conclude that the whole duck hunting thing is an act because they don't wear their camouflage on vacation. Criminy, Michael. If somebody saw you at the beach without your pocket-protector, would people be justified in concluding you're not a real web tech guy? -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
