Yes, some of the old buildings are certainly grand. Unfortunately, being surrounded by abandoned structures covered in graffiti with broken windows and damaged facades gives the impression of Baghdad minus the heat.

And just how much time have you spent in the greater Detroit area? From the sound of it, not much, if any,.

I'm in Detroit a 2 or 3 times per year, Buffalo more often. I'm sure there are some nice spots in the surrounding burbs, but the cities themselves are not. Sorry if you live there and like it. I live in an unappealing area as well.

I don't live there. Far from it. I actually live in a very appealing area. I just see your view of Detroit as very limited. As for Buffalo, I've never been there ........

Detroit much the same, but I would place a lot of Detroits problems on the elected officials, some of whom are the worst of the worst. Kwame Kilpatrick makes that crackhead DC Mayor look good in comparison.

You know Kwame Kilpatrick hasn't been mayor of Detroit since 2008, eh?

True...I wonder if Amazon.ca and eBay are additional reasons Canadians love America. In theory, Canadian shoppers would have access to products not readily available "north of the border". Of course, they probably still get gouged on taxes and shipping.

The only time I tried to buy something that wasn't available up here from Amazon I was told to take a hike, for being Canadian.

I guess that'll change once some rationale for charging me 30 or 40% more before taxes and shipping is found.

What's with all the corn syrup crap too? Like "honey-flavoured syrup"? or "maple-flavoured syrup"? They're both corn syrup flavoured to taste like honey or maple. I guess when you have to subsidize your agriculture, you might as well make use of it.

Bagged milk used to be really common coast-to-coast. I haven't seen any ANYWHERE in several decodes though. There's definitely none in Manitoba. Do they still sell it in Ontario?

yup there's some gouging going on...what appears to be great deal is lost when you add in inflated shipping/postal fees...how can something cost more to send a small parcel from south carolina to Calgary than alaska? $80 more! on a $220 item and then I pay another $20 to canada customs....

some US sellers are honest/fair others see an order come in from canada and it's open season to gouge...

Yes, it is true (and completely logical) that "Canadians pay far more attention to the U.S. than do Americans to Canada". I would bet that this is true whenever a relatively small country neigbours a large country, or even a state.

I am sure that New Zealand pays more attention to Australia then vice versa. And those are also two countries that speak similar languages and have some cultural similarities.

Very common here in Ont.

The amount of real maple syrup is too small to supply the general public, especially in the US.

Is that so? I never knew.

Which part? Bagged milk or the maple syrup? If the latter. its a small quantity and as much dependant on the weather as any crop/production than I can think of. Farmers can of course advise , but I cant think of anything that is so fickle.

#1 Maple syrup sells for $17.00 a litre. Thats expensive.
