Really, eh?

It's rather sad and pathetic when Canadians have to resort to stuff like this in order to criticize the U.S. and pat Canada on the back - and it would be even if Canadians were the most fit people on earth. Which, of course, they're not. I have to wonder if these people taking so much pride in Canada because there are slightly less obese people than in the U.S. realize this is also a huge (no pun intended) problem in Canada. .

No shortage of McDonalds outlets in my city. Always busy...as are all the other fast food joints.

It's hard for you to grasp, I realize. But, the Canadian government was Liberal for a LONG time with a tiny break for Joe Clark. They got a lot of their agenda turned into reality...as you might say.

What does that have to do with anything? The voters voted Liberal for a LONG time.

OK, but changing the national colors/flag, renaming the armed forces, erecting CanCon barriers, fighting over bilingualism, and getting rid of "Dominion Day" might just hint at a bit of an identity crisis. Just sayin'.....

Why "crisis"? Tell me, do you wear the same clothes you did in high school? Rock the same haircut? Drive the same car?

We were standing around the radio station I worked at back during those heady days of Joe Clark. He had come in to give an interview and take calls but needed to 'use the facilities' first. We watched him go in....waited....flush....wash....door opens and he goes to the studio. One of the copy-writers...a cheeky fellow...got up...went in....flush...wash....came out.

At the top of his lungs he shouted: "I just peed in the same toilet as Joe Clark!" All eyes turned to him...including Joe's.

And again, many of us would disagree. You define identity far too narrowly, in a very American perspective.

hey I remember canada from those days i still recall being at a Bar-b-que with dief the chief...and what I recall clearly from those days is I'm glad they're far behind us, cultural/racial/ethnic/sexual intolerance oh ya it was fun timesrolleyes.gif

The good ol' days when the immigration bureaucrat during WWII said of Jewish refugees, "None is too many." Meanwhile, the US and other nations were accepting thousands at a time.

Do recall the 'Follow John' campaign? One of his truly lasting legacies.

I agree. Your head of state is determined by the British monarchy, not independently, and they will be first and foremost British.

Rarely you and I come out on the same side of a point. But maybe that is what the 1776 was all about for Americans. But then again we still have Obama bowing to the Queen on official visits.

There is a reason Canada and other countries like Australia and NZ and many others that are considered commonwealth nations. We are ultimately controlled by the UK and the Queen. I guess I was under the wrong impression we as a nation have grown out of the need to actually pay lip service to the Queen and by extension, the whole Royal Family. These are not the kinds of people I want representing Canada.

I fail to see how it is symbolic when the Queen has real power within the government structure of Canada. I think people are not quite understanding what it means to actually continue to entertain the notion of a Queen. I need a passport in order to travel to any commonwealth nation, while the Queen gets the red carpet treatment and no need to go through security or show her passport. Who is really in control here?

More change is coming for Canada's identity crises....it seems that tiny Puerto Rico loves America too and has voted to pursue statehood as the 51st U.S. state. If / when approved by Congress, this would instantly make Canadian references to being the "51st state" obsolete. Maybe just shift to being the "52nd state" ?

Economics trumps Virtue.

No, this displays a fundamental misunderstanding on your part.

Any head os state gets the same treatment.

Ya think Obama gets stopped and searched and his passport stamped?

How about one carrying a UN Passport sucg as a friend of mine? He can have 4 lbs of blow, two dead hookers in his backseat and Customs ...once shown the UN Passport have to wave him through with no more questions.

Diplomats and their pouches are a no go too!

It's a nice convenient double standard. Rectal exams for all from the TSA while the real criminals are just waved on through.

OH FFS thats a silly juvenile response.

Juvenile, but it's the truth. Why deny it?

it's a 'do as I say and not as I do' type of thing.

Its not the truth in that no country treats visiting diplomats rudely, making them line up with the rest of the sheep.

Something about social graces and all. Same way people you invite over to your house get preferred treatment versus the friends your son/daughter may have over.

Quite the insult to the general population calling them sheep.

You also have a difference in how the queen is treated abroad and how the queen treats dignitaries from around the world then they visit her in the UK. Obama goes to the UK and has to bow to HER. And when the queen comes to the US, Obama still has to bow to her. Protocols for interaction with the Queen are the same everywhere no matter where she is. Social graces my ass.

And with that we have spent far too much time discussing TSA. Unless you`re Jesse Ventura, or listen to Coast to Coast or Alex Jones, this should be about one millionth on your list of priorities, just above chemtrails and black helicopters.

Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !

So instead of dealing with the subject at hand, you instead use a tactic many others here have done specifically against me, and that is to bring Jones ect into the conversation in an attempt to marginalize the issue being discussed. Others have spent time in the cooler for just this kind of thing.

Except that it is a marginal, conspiracy theory driven issue.

Could also be a personal opinion I have held for a long time, even before I had even heard of Jones or the term 'conspiracy theory'. But that can't be the case right? Maybe I should put the tinfoil hat back on?

I'm in total agreement with you here. I resent being referred to as a "sheep" and if the queen wants other heads of state to bow to her, she can return the courtesy.
