overthere Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 The Yankees lost in a bad way last night. They were ahead 4-2 in the 10th inning, and ended up losing in the 16th. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Boges Posted August 13, 2015 Report Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) Now all we need to clinch the World Series is ... This team is pretty much set. Top lineup is: SS-Tulo 3B-Donaldson RF-Joey Bats DH-EE 1B-Smoak C-Martin CF-Pillar 2B-Goins LF-Revere Starting rotation of Price, Dickey, Buerle, Estrada, Hutch. That's the horse that's going to win or lose the WS for the Blue Birds. Any moves AA can make are just for support. Stroman coming back in September could be a big boost, but I can't see him starting in a playoff game. The prevailing theory was that the Dickey would pitch Sunday on short rest against the Yankees because they hit so poorly against Knuckleballers. Hutch had been struggling but pitched very well Tuesday. Still unsure who they'll trot out their Sunday. Edited August 13, 2015 by Boges Quote
Topaz Posted August 16, 2015 Report Posted August 16, 2015 If the Jays get to the World Series, do you think another strike will happen like it did in the 90's when the Jays were going for 3 in a row World Series? Quote

overthere Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Ryan Goins might have played his way into Devon Travis' job.... Goins is a better fielder, his hitting is much improved and he is starting to get on base often and moving up in the batting order....and he can run too. Somebody needs to talk to Ben Revere about the concept of 'situational hitting'. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Somebody needs to talk to Ben Revere about the concept of 'situational hitting'. He bunted horribly late in that game. His appeal is that he never strikes out. Revere and Tulo are under performing. If they can regain their National League level of production, WATCH OUT!!! But in the meantime they've filled glaring holes in the Jays defense. 2 straight great starts from Hutch. All the starters pitched very well this weekend. They weren't going to be winning at the clip they were. Losing 2 games to a seemingly desperate Yankees is not horrific. They need to win on the road against Philly, Anaheim and Texas though. The Angels and Rangers are in the Wildcard hunt, the Jays need to help put them to bed. Edited August 17, 2015 by Boges Quote
Big Guy Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 I think Revere was the victim of a very obviously bad called third strike. It is not easy to keep your mind in the game when you are the recipient of such a bad call. Boges Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Hutch just got sent to the minors. The Jays have 3 off days in the next week and are playing in an NL park this week. They don't need 5 starters, it's better to have an extra hitter and allow Hutch to pitch on regular rest in AAA. Loupe also got sent down but he was downgraded to pitching in garbage time, I cringed every time I saw his sidearm delivery. Quote

Boges Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 I'm sure the skeptics were ringing alarms when the Jays split the series against the lowly Phillies but after last weekend all skeptics can STFU. That was an incredible destructions of the Angels. At this point, it would be a shock if the Jays don't make the playoffs, they are an amazingly put together team. Remember when AA was fighting for his job? Now it looks like he's inline for a promotion. Two observations. Collabello is a better option at First Base than Justin Smoak right now. And how long before Tulo gets taken out of the Leadoff spot? Ben Revere has started acting like a leadoff hitter should. Some pretty penny annie concerns at the point though. Quote

Boges Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) AA might not be around next year. His deal is up this season. It won't be because Rogers doesn't want him. If he gets a ridiculous offer from another team then fine. Rogers won't let Paul Beeston's replacement fire him, I don't think. It was thought, by some, that these trades for Tulo and Price were desperation moves. Perhaps they were but they were exactly what the team needed. Edited August 24, 2015 by Boges Quote

That wasn't the game or Revere at bat I meant. It was the 4-3 loss to the Yankees. There was one out in the bottom of the ninth with Jays runners at second and third. His job is to make contact and get the ball on the ground, on the right side if at all possible. Tie game, two out. Instead, he flailed away at three balls in the dirt and struck out on 4 pitches. He was trying to be the hero and score both runners. Instead, we lost. Situational hitting. Not. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Tulo has looked pretty grim at the plate after a promising start. But he is a big upgrade from Reyes defensively. Revere has now rounded into form and is getting on base, which is the prime requirement of a leadoff hitter. And I agree that Tulo needs to move down in the order, perhaps into 5th or 6th spot until he gets his mojo back. He can be and will be much better at the plate. Don't agree about Colabello though. Smoak is a far far better fielder than Colabello, and the Jays don't really need Colabellos RH bat most days. I know Chris made a nice play there the other day, but Smoak is much better defensively. And Smoak hits left, a rarity on the team. Cola is part of a much stronger bench, but he is often an adventure in the field. They need to give Pillar some regualr time off, he is looking tired. Big Guy Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Rumour - and that is all they are - is that Reyes was a very disruptive influence causing rifts between nthe Dominicans and the rest of the guys. They hung out together and celbrated after loses the same after wins. Have not got verification for that. Would now be a good time to unload Batista for mre pitching? The pitching staff has been the best in the Majors since the Allstar Break. At this point the only way to trade a player is having them clear waivers. So only teams with crappy contracts get traded. (see Chase Utley being traded to the Dodgers) They're also set to get Marcus Stroman back next month. The team is overflowing with effective pitching right now. Joey Bats has a very team friendly contract right now and he's the defacto captain of the team. News came out today that Reyes says he's sick of losing. It must really bug him his two former teams are headed to the playoffs this year. I always found he was positive no matter what. You can't be happy when you lose at the pro level. If losing doesn't drive you insane then you're not cut out for pro sports. The team is much better with Tulo. See Tulo's stand up play yesterday where he tags an Angel after sliding in for a double and he jumps up in the air off the bag and review showed it so he got the player out. It was a really stand up play. Edited August 24, 2015 by Boges Quote
