Big Guy Posted September 10, 2015 Report Posted September 10, 2015 Blue Jays magic number over NY is 23 !!! http://www.playoffmagic.com/mlb/ Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
Boges Posted September 10, 2015 Report Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) They are only 1.5 games ahead and not playing well . A 1.5 game lead is not much with 23 games to play, and the Wankees have a game in hand. It would be a huge collapse if the Jays did not get a wild card berth. Not playing well? Maybe not as well when they won 6 of 7. Losing the series against Boston is a missed opportunity but look at the schedule. The Jays only have the Yankees left as teams that are "in it". Now this past week with Baltimore and Boston shows that no team in the AL East is horrible. But as September moves along teams will check out. Anything short of a sweep in Atlanta next week is a catastrophe. The Yankees actually have to play the Mets and then come to the Rogers Centre this month. That's tough and this team is old. overthere Posted September 10, 2015 Report Posted September 10, 2015 They didn't just lose the series against the Sox, they got their asses handed to them 2 out of 3 and could have easily lost the third game. So yeah, not playing well. The Jays only have the Yankees left as teams that are "in it". As we have already established, there are no easy wins. The Sox are sucking all season and beat the Jays handily. The Jays also have recent losses to a worse team, the Phillies, and others. So don't count your chickens just yet. The Jays have worked magic for 6 weeks, and yet there are the Yankees: right with them still. Old don't matter when you win like they have. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Since the Yanks beat swept the Braves and the Jays swept the Tigers, they've been pretty tit for tat. It's been 1.5 games for awhile. We'll see how this series goes. A good series in New York might finally bury the Yankees. Quote
Boges Posted September 11, 2015 Report Posted September 11, 2015 I'm thinking playing 4 games in 3 days will help the Jays. They're a much deep and younger team. Quote
Big Guy Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 Watching the game in NY. 4th inning. Encarnacion just hit another one to make it 8-1. Feels good. Going to bed. Looking forward to the double hitter to-morrow. Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

Big Guy Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 Watching the second of the double hitter in New York. Fourth inning, Jays up 6-0, Stroman looking strong and the Jays look like they no longer need my help. Going to bed. Looking forward to another wipe out Sunday. Looks like Stroman a keeper. Who goes down? Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
Boges Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 Hutch won't make the post season roster if Stroman keeps playing like that. Quote
overthere Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 Neither will Buehrle. Not as a starter. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) Neither will Buehrle. Not as a starter. No not as a starter but he'll be on the roster. He pitches against the AAA Braves tomorrow. Hopefully he doesn't suck. The big question is, Does Tulo make the roster if he's not ready to come back assuming he would be able to come back at some point in October. That was an excellent weekend of Baseball for the Jays. Getting shut out yesterday was irrelevant. If the Yankees can only win Tanaka starts, they're toast. Edited September 14, 2015 by Boges Quote
overthere Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 I think ther Jays lost the Sunday game because they were exhausted by all the hits and running in the first three games. That was seriously embarrassing for the Yankees. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 I think ther Jays lost the Sunday game because they were exhausted by all the hits and running in the first three games. That was seriously embarrassing for the Yankees. The Yankees needed that game and the Jays were like Bleep it. Let Dickey eat up innnings and let the Bullpen rest. They were against Tanaka who is the only starter the Yanks can trust right now. The Jays get the Braves and are home against Boston while the Yankees go on the road against the Rays, Mets and then The Rogers Centre. That's a tough stretch for a team that's clearly beaten up. ESPN has the Blue Jays tops on their power rankings. http://espn.go.com/mlb/powerrankings Right now catching the Royals for #1 seed in the Al is their goal. Forget the Yankees. Quote
overthere Posted September 15, 2015 Report Posted September 15, 2015 That's a tough stretch for a team that's clearly beaten up. Do you mean the Jays? Tulo and EE are recent casualties, and both players are badly needed in the stretch and further. Goins and Pennington are able defensively, but I'd still rather have Tulos glove and bat in the game. And Pennington is pretty much all defence so far. Smoak and Colabello are both Ok at first(Smoak better than OK) but neither can equal EE as a DH. The Jays will be tested with two starters out of the lineup, and Tulo might be gone for longer than 2 to 3 weeks.. Right now catching the Royals for #1 seed in the Al is their goal. No, winning the division must remain their goal. I can guarantee that Alex Alphabet and Gibbons have not had a single word exchanged about the Royals. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

They then go to play the First place Mets and then to the Rogers Centre. EE shouldn't be out for long. I would prefer he didn't play against Atlanta actually. He can't play DH. Smoak and Collabello should be fine against the Braves. The Royals lost again last night. The Jays are closer to the Royals than the Yankees are to them. Just saying. Also regarding Tulo, he's a huge loss, no question but Pennington is still a defensive upgrade moving over to second and having Goins play short. He hit his first Homer Saturday night. Maybe he'll be more productive with increased reps. Tulo was only hitting .230 as a Jay. Zaun was saying that a break may help him come back a better hitter. It's still to early to know how long he'll be gone or even if he'll be back though. Edited September 15, 2015 by Boges Quote

Boges Posted September 16, 2015 Report Posted September 16, 2015 Of course they'll lose to Atlanta when everyone thinks they'll crush them. At least New York lost too. Hopefully Atlanta blew their wad of pitching last night. Price will probably go 7 or 8 innings. Quote
overthere Posted September 16, 2015 Report Posted September 16, 2015 I've been saying all along that no win is a given or guarantee in MLB. And it isn't with Price pitching either. The Braves pitcher tonight has a better ERA than every Jays starter except Price. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

Boges Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 David Price is being discussed as a Cy Young candidate. They guy in Houston, Keuchel, got shelled last night. Quote
overthere Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 Toronto wants to avoid becoming Houston Astros, who are demonstrating a late fade. To me, Price has not been particularly dominant. He walked a bunch and left a bunch on base last night. The double play in the 5th last night was a play I had not seen before, in many years of playing and coaching baseball. Runners on first and second, nobody out. Braves hitter pops to very shallow right field, or deep in the infield...... Both runners semi=freeze, anticipating he'll catch it. Pennington picks it up, guns to second and forces out the runner coming from first. Goins fires to theird, where the runner from second is tagged out. Now there are 2 out, runner on first base- a much better situation for the Jays and a fine defensive series. But...... was it an infield fly? Becuase if it was, it would have been one out, runners on first and second bases. Was it in the infield or outfield? An infielder was under it, neither outfielder was remotely close. It would not have been a circus catch for Pennington, I was a bit surprised he didn't make it. Or... did he not make it on purpose, knowing he would get one for sure and maybe two outs? The home plate ump makes this call and he makes it LOUD, as soon as the ball goes up pretty much. Pennington had a couple or more seconds and did not hear 'infield fly, batter is out!". Either way, a pretty good play by Pennington. If I was the Atlanta manager, I'd be arguing that non-call- though I do not know if it is appealable. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 That was not an easy catch and it was totally in shallow right field. I'm thinking Goins could have made that catch but Pennington is most certainly not a huge downgrade defensively from Tulo. Last night proved that EE is one of the most important players on the team. Put him in the line-up and everyone around him hits better. See the game Martin had last night hitting behind EE? I think Price was playing down to the competition tonight. He had a huge lead so he tried some unsafe stuff. Everytime runners got on he nutted up and shut them down. It seemed he was more interested in hitting last night. He was still hitting 97 mph in like the 7th. Quote
