It doesn't seem that millions were stolen, as I inferred from the post above. Also he sued OLG it seems, and rightly so as he was identified as a problem gambler, and they let him gamble again although he had been banned. eyeball Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 ...so now that people have mental illnesses, that gives them a free pass to do horrible things in society? No, but one thing a finding of mental illness does is keep governments from exacting a sadistic reactionary sort of vengeance that has no place in a compassionate civilized society. cybercoma Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 Remember when people were concerned about the rampant cocaine addictions on Wall Street? Probably not, but here's an article about it dating back to 2000. http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2000/nov/29/workandcareers.madeleinebunting Lawrence Kudlow was earning almost $1m a year as a senior Wall Street economist when he first started snorting cocaine. Young - he was 25 when he landed a top economic post - loaded and successful, the former adviser to president Ronald Reagan said he felt "indestructible". I know, 2000 was an awfully long time again. How about something more recent? Italy is considering requiring stock traders to take mandatory drug tests due to concern about a link between substance abuse and fluctuations on the Borsa Italiana.[snip] The story rhymes elsewhere. Substance abuse has been cited as pandemic in London's financial district where bars routinely offer cocaine to clients by credit card, but describe the purchases as "wine." Several recent drug busts have resulted in multiple arrests and shutdowns of some of these drug fronts in London. [snip] Of course, cocaine has been the drug of choice for well-heeled financial types around the world for decades, and a 1987 Wall Street scandal first revealed its popularity on trading floors. But wait! Those cocaine addictions may be a thing of the past, according to the WSJ. Actually, they're just switching to pot and pills. WSJ says that investment banking has a lower rate than other professions, nearly half of retail. They also go on to say, however, that the investment bankers are only tested when hired. Random testing is rare, whereas it happens frequently in professions like retail. The founder of an intervention and rehab centre, said: “Investment bankers — gunslingers, as we call them — are highly prone to addiction,” he explained. “And there’s a lot of denial among employers. The attitude is: ‘If they can’t fix themselves, then they’re going to have to live with it. We’re not going to put any time and effort into it.’”The full article: http://blogs.wsj.com/deals/2010/08/20/wall-street-drug-use-employees-giving-up-cocaine-for-pot-and-pills/ So that's all very nice that you're super concerned about Occupy's drug problem. Some 22000 people died of drug overdoses in 2005, by the way. However, I don't see your concern about the well-documented drug problems amongst Wall Street bankers. I have a solution though. We should send the police in with batons, rubber bullets and tear gas to evict the Wall Street bankers from their offices. Quote

ironstone Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 I no rite. When there are 20,000 unemployed and 450 job ads in a county, many repeats. It's the unemployed who are obviously at fault. They need only blame themselves. Are these occupiers actually looking for work now?Things are far from perfect in Canada, but on the other hand,if a person so chooses,he or she never has to do a single day's work in their life in this country. They will be provided with free dental, health care and most of the essentials courtesy of Canada's cash for life system(welfare).Seems to me they just want everything in life handed to them on a silver platter while contributing NOTHING to this country. No its more than that. The "communism/socialism" refrain has become the automatic knee jerk response whenever someone suggests the extreme wealth concentration might be unsustainable, or that major players in our financial system might be acting against our long term interests. Theres a really good reason these people want to limit the discussion around these protests to attacks on the protesters character... they dont do real well if theyre forced to talk about the real issues involved. They cant defend the system because most of the dont know how it works any better than they know what communism/socialism is. The quality of debate is personified by comments like "Na na!
