OCCUPY

No...this has been a good exercise. It reveals in startling detail the depths of paranoia and disconnect from reality by some of our esteemed members.

Yet OCCUPY seeks to be recognized in this and many other mainstream media outlets. How ironic be your statement.

The recognize it to hijack it to marginalize it.

Remember that time they banned drinking on campgrounds because of the open fires and alcohol/drugs that people were consuming?

How did that work out for Donald Marshall Jr., David Milgaard, James Driskell, Anthony Hanemaayer, Simon Marshall, Guy Paul Morin, William Mullins-Johnson, Romeo Phillion, Thomas Sophonow, Steven Turcott, Kyle Unger, and Erin Walsh?

If you want to know, you can read about it here: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2009/08/06/f-wrongfully-convicted.html

They were consuming open fires????

The difference is:

They never had video footage or DNA of the incidents of the crimes for which these people were convicted.

There will be tons of footage for the trials of the G20 & Vancouver riot criminals.

You're all a bunch of hypocrites. You never gave a damn about people ODing in the streets before. In fact, some of you lauded it as one less junky to support. Now because it's at an Occupy site you suddenly care? Nice facade. Using the dead to play your partisan games is shameful.

Go back to the Insite thread and see my position on it before you result to name calling.

It's not about the people ODing, its the occupiers forcibly denying police/firefighters/medics to do their jobs.If they want to be anarchists and obstruct a medic/firefighter from doing their jobs, they get to live with having an OD death on their hands. At least on the street there isn't that obstruction.

So its all right to obstruct public institutions from doing their jobs at occupy which involves ensuring the safety of ODers, but its not all right to leave the OD's die on the street. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.

That didn't happen Derek.

If they OD and turn their site into a junkie's paradise, then they're proving that they're no better than the druggies elsewhere, in which case they should leave and go to treatment centres.

I don't see druggies camping out on Hastings and Main - some do go to homeless shelters, you know.

It's natural that street people are drawn to the protest camp. That doesn't make the protesters "druggies".

Then we should break up the camps. We don't want to create cesspools in our city. If they're homeless and druggies, they should go to homeless shelters and treatment centres respectively, not the front of Vancouver. And the purpose of Occupy Wherever is NOT to provide a tent for such people; the purpose is to protest against whoever they've got a beef with at the moment.

Newsflash: Breaking up the camps doesn't get rid of the junkies.

It's about time we stop attacking the people that have problems and start addressing the actual problems.

Um, except it is their fault, no one had a gun to their head forcing them to take drugs and become junkies.

The cesspools already exist. And not all these people on the streets are there because they screwed up. Some simply got screwed by the system. To me that is another part that needs to be brought to those in power. Not enough is being done to help these people.

We have no problem with spending the millions/billions on wars with other countries, but we seem to have a real problem with helping our own who are on the street because of one reason or another.

This is untrue!

Many of these so called junkies live in a world of no hope and despair "created" by the 1%.

The ability to help them reach a better life is being supresed by the 1%.

Essentially you are blaming the victims for the crime!

Yeah you dumb people---- didn't you know that the 1% spent their spare time injecting people so that they would become junkies to distract the general public from the idea that if a person works at it they can actually make a go of it in North America*

*(and if they pay attention in school they can also learn to spell words that are more than 4 letters long)

And you are blaming the 1% for all the misery in the world.

Let's all elevate the discussion together.

Your doing a fine job at that by claiming that I am blaming the 1% for "all the misery in the world".

Well you did say:

"Many of these so called junkies live in a world of no hope and despair "created" by the 1%."

I suppose you qualified it somewhat by saying "many"...

Yes Mike if you recall there was a popular thread here a couple of weeks ago about safe injection sites.

The two main views was for the site and the other was against.

The against side was in my opinion generally the right wing pro big business or pro 1%.

Now I could be stretching here a little but I believe a few here may agree with me so far on this.
