...I do remember the feeling I had that if you didn't puke, you weren't really trying

I hear that....back in my day it was upper body strength....overhand pull-ups, dips, rope climb, and sit-ups. Puking was ample reward for passing those tests. Women had a hard time qualifying even at reduced requirements...so we sent them to the CFL! ;)

In other words, fit tests and med evals dont equal performance.

Base standards say one can move on, nothing more.

No...you don't understand. There are specific physical, medical, even psychological benchmarks that must be achieved (and often maintained) for "performance". For instance, if you can't equalize air pressure or pass a color blindness test, military performance would be greatly diminished. Prior to deployments, fitness is determined again at many levels because it is a known risk and impact on mission readiness / performance.

No, I quite understand.

But the point was and remains they are nothing but b enchmarks for moving on.

Plenty of people in all walks of life and sport pass these two, but get rejected further down the line.

Specific abilities comes later.

For instance recruitment camps are currently happening in the NHL. All of them passed fit/eval tests, not many will make the NHL.

No they are not just for moving on....reading a display correctly while dark adapted is important for "performance". Service members are NPQ'd on a routine basis, long after completing the entry training pipeline.

 Stick w the premise. Introducing specifics to fit some premise is fine, but again, not relevant.

If one fails a 'dark adaption for reading displays" what happens?

The premise is straightforward...going back to player combine tests. Those making the contract decisions will use these and other criteria to make decisions because they believe them to be relevant to potential and actual performance, and includes evaluation of playing abilities (KSAs).

Things like "heart" and other intangibles only go so far on a consistent basis.

You don't know this for certain...it is your truthi guess.

Yes, it is a guess. But until you can produce actual evidence, it remains the educated guess.

Since I have actually undergone such fitness testing and medical evaluations (Air Force and Navy), I am happy to tell you that you are wrong. Disqualification for medical and physical performance attributes is not only common, but necessary.

No, you are misunderstanding the basic premise. The fitness evaluation tests of prospective recruits does not indicate the current performance ability of the force overall.

...or any records by your way of thinking. Others disagree
.

Who are these "others?" These guys? At any rate, CFL quarterbacks rate right up there with the best in the NFL.

Establish criteria...measure...and announce the winner. Not so hard...even for burgers.

Let me know when you get around to it. In the meantime, Lui Passaglia holds the professional football record for most points in a career, almost 1500 more points than Morten Anderson. Lance Chomyc has scored the record for most points in a season at 236...

Yes....the players buy more Madden NFL units than...ummm...I'm trying to think of the CFL video game title but it's not available!

I see. Video game sales. A solid indication indeed.

I'm sure it has been done for a university doctorate.

The current ability "of the force" (?) is evaluated on a continuous basis. That's where the term "You know the drill." comes from. Football players still have to pass such evaluations when going to a new team or renewing a contract.

Who are these "others?" These guys? At any rate, CFL quarterbacks rate right up there with the best in the NFL.

Same as "the force"...most CFL quarterbacks would still prefer a Super Bowl ring, and all that entails..even Damon Allen. The NFL is considered the professional pinnacle of the sport, not unlike much bragging around here concerning the NHL and "best players".

That's swell....how many Lui's do you have in "the force"?

Players buy 'em too...they get mad if the developer screws up their performance data in the game engine. I will try to find a current CFL production...something that will run on a modern console (not Super Nintendo).

BC is a gamer? I would have never known.

Well...see...it's like this...to play a CFL video game (kinda sorta), gamers download and hack Madden, which is based on the NFL, but has exclusionary contracts. There was a PC game for the CFL in 1999, but not much since. Maybe new ones are only sold in Quebec (french language). ;)

Somebody in Canada (or the USA) could release a new CFL title, but maybe the domestic Canadian market isn't big enough? And I thought you guys loved the CFL soooooooooo much!

:) Well, support is not overwhelming, so far, that's true. CFL fans are optimists about the future, so we'll see.

So is the NFL Network, which picked up some CFL games for this year. If the CFL is only available on TSN (pay cable) in Canada, no wonder it almost went/goes broke. Must be a marketing problem!

A 2K CFL 2K12 video game is rumoured to be in the works, but there are CFL licensing issues. They need to move at least a million units, which might be tough mostly in Canada, where Madden already does well because of the team building options. Same for the NCAA game....Canadian gamers buy the product and build their own CFL variants. Just changing from 4 to 3 downs would be a huge sales incentive.

Likely Drexel.

Yes, but a series of tests on unproven potential recruits does not indicate the current performance "of the force." Not even in the Navy.

Yes, but he will have to be satisfied he was merely one of the best quarterbacks ever. I think he can live with that.

Only need one and he is at the top of professional football all time scoring.

Three downs and two Rough Rider teams and I am in. Also the Grey Cup.

And a tax rebate if you buy it.

Yes it does....non high school graduates....high school graduates...and college graduates as "recruits" has a direct bearing on current performance...even in the "Navy".

I'm sure he can....not everyone can play in the game's most elite league, otherwise it wouldn't be elite!

Only need one and he is at the top of professional football all time scoring.

Sorry, but here math is not your friend. The NFL has more of...everything...including fans.

Yes...I am glad that expensive phase of my son's gaming religion is over (Xbox, Playstation 1/2/3, Wii, & PC). He has discovered the original gaming "software". ;)

I'm glad my son has aunts and uncles ( and an uncle in law that used to work at EA)

Not so ...been in Canada all my life and never watched a hockey game...let alone glue myself to a high def screen and toy with the CFL...I'm an odd one...not big on games...interactive virutal or real...but I do like to view a boxing match or see a sprinter run..
