Good news, at least to me:

Barack Obama will announce on Wednesday that sufficient progress has been made against the Taliban in Afghanistan to bring home all the 33,000 U.S. troops dispatched over the past 18 months by the end of next year.

In keeping with agreements reached with David Cameron, he is also likely to set out a path to ending the U.S. combat role by the end of 2014 and withdrawing the majority of the current 100,000-troop U.S. deployment.

It is expected that 10,000 of the 33,000 "surge" forces will be pulled out this year - half next month and half in the winter - though White House aides said the numbers had not been finalized.

Yes,its good and the aftermath for those soldiers is going to be hell. They have to deal with their friends dying and what horrible things they saw while over there, but I wonder how much time will pass before they are sent somewhere else.

Just in time to get home for a bit, then off to Libya. Part of the reason I think Canada's tank squandrons are being pulled out. I will say you will find them in Libya in the near future.

The deployment to Afghanistan probably bagged the Leopards. Old to begin with. I seriously doubt any Canadian will set foot in Libya unless one of the 6 planes gets tagged and the pilot is forced to eject.

Canada will be sending troops into Libya under the UN/NATO banner. I could be wrong... time will tell.

If NATO want so to go into other Middle-Eastern countries, I would think they would rest the troops for a couple months and wait until fall. It does get really hot in the area during the summer.

Now this made my pop come out my nose....

It does get really hot in the area during the summer.

Afghan has set temps in around plus 65 on a regular basis ....and in the back of an armour veh around plus 100....now lets put on all our cloths and pers equipment, and over 30 lbs of gear...Thats hot....thats really F***king hot....

So hot you had to wear gloves becuase the metal on your wpn would get to hot to touch with bare skin...so hot you could cook off your veh after the sun was down a few hours....

Candian Army will not be deploying ground troops anytime soon to Libya, with what are we going to fight with....

Afghan kicked the crap out of most of our gear, replacements vehs and equipment are still years out...

That should allow the Taliban to be successful in their next offensive. Obama is working out well.

Yah - like the Taliban are going to retire and put their feet up and load up a pipe of opium and dream away. Makes you wonder if Obama is an idiot or a tratorous scoundrel?

I am sure our military wants the mission to be over as well. Unless perpetual war is what they want.

No, we just want to see it through until it is finshed , so we don't have to come back, so it was not for nothing.

The tax payer does not know what they want. They are told on what they want. As I mentioned to you a long time ago Army Guy...I have respect for the Marshall class - my father was an officer and I learned a lot about duty - honour and respect from him. Politicals really do not understand or appreciate the professional soldier.

They waste them by sending them on missions that only assist the status quo. That current state of affairs is all about profit. Most of our supper rich who have politcal influence are all invested in the lucrative buisness of war supplies - the tax payer pays for it - the soldiers deploy it..the money is in a sense laundered through useless and meaningless conflicts --------AND then goes back into the pocket of the investors - NOT the common tax payer.

The Afghan mission was as much a mistake morally for us as it was for the Russians - and it seems that the Americans have turned their profit and want out also before it is discovered that this adventure was a buisness venture like most wars. I feel sorry for the people who "sacraficed" their lives...so the rich could stay rich. Afghanistan will revert back to what it always was....a primative back water that grows dope and beats their woman.....a mafia is a family buisness and it was none of our buisness.

If the allies were serious they would not have bothered killing Taliban - they would have killed the vegetable matter - the plants - the opium..............with out money - you can not function. That premise holds true in even the most primative society..........so - it was a waste of time and life...I regret to repeat.

Especially since Obama openly admitted the Taliban will be a part of Afghanistans future, ie. will have a role in government. What? The dreaded, evil, anti-democracy, anti-capitalist Taliban are now accepted? We will negotiate with the Taliban? How will Peter Mackay reconcile this.

They played us like emotional violins! So the Taliban that killed almost 200 soldiers and crippled a thousand Canadian soldiers.....is about to enter the establishement...and become part of the established and respected Afghan government? Go figure...you would think that Obama and our leaders could have forseen the future - but apparently not!

You can not trust or respect Peter McKay...he is a light weight and a poor judge of character - the fact that he spent to much time with the dis-loyal internationalist capitalist Belinda Stronach -----------and admired the manlyness of Colonel Russell Williams ------------show the man has horrificly poor judgement to say the least.

Mckay is not a serious person - but he does have "privlege" - which he will now grant the Taliban - who killed Canadians. Go figure - who said that political persons were intelligent or honourable? IF we had tough honourable men and woman in government - they would have sent their best to Afganistan 5 years ago and put it to the Taliban in a straight and forceful manner ....in other words acted like MEN - who would work out a mutual deal with other MEN...but we don't have MEN in the western world.

The old manual on how to rule if you are not bright or original...go to the oldest economic saviour that politicans have used since to the begining of time --- If all else fails have a war..."wars stumulate the economy" Obama being a twit refered to the old play book - so did Bush and so does Harper. These idiots look at war though the eyes of an ecedemic economist...this out dated way of doing buisness is a horrific way to maintain wealth. War is only good for those waging it..not for those who have to endure the waste material cause by this type of wealth creation - The waste material in this case is destroyed infrastructure and civlian corpses.

Lots of us didn't want to have anything to do with going. We knew it was a waste of time and effort right from the get go.

Having ranted about that from the get go also - It was plain to see that this place (Afhanistan) was from another era - another unchangeable and stable culture that has been the same for 4 thousand years....what made our politcal guys think they could change that? Secondly like an over zealous social worker they went in with force - believing that they were saviours . Frankly it is not my buisness if the guy two blocks away sells opium and beats his wife - and does not send his female child to school - BUT if he is next door and the noise and activity annoy me...and hinder me from fucntioning - I will launch a resistant force - because the creep is right next door and in my face --------------Afghanistan is NOT next door and those primative goat herding opium dealers ....have no effect on me - so why did we bother?

Two reasons - the left -----and the right --------- the left want to spread socialism all over the world --------------and the right wants to wage war for profit...between these two we let thousands of civlians die - thousands of Canaidans were crippled and maimed mentally - and nearly two hundred fine men are dead.....................for NOTHING.... dellusionary thought and greed!
