Melanie_ Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Here is how I picture a Yara Greyjoy storyline playing out: Kimmy, if George RR Martin eats one too many cheeseburgers and has the heart attack we are all dreading, you can definitely take the franchise over. Mighty AC Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 I apologize if this has already been discussed. There is a theory that Jon Snow's actual parents are Ned Stark's sister Lyanna and Rhaegar Targaryen; hence the series title 'A Song Of Ice and Fire' actually refers to Jon as the product of Targaryens and Starks. Some suggest that Ned's promise to Lyanna was actually to protect and raise her son as his own. I'm only through the first book but this idea makes sense to me. Thoughts? That is a very popular theory and one that has quite a bit of supporting evidence; the key being “to protect” her son. It explains Ned’s silence about the circumstances of Jon’s birth and the identify of Jon’s mother. Kimmy, you rock; your synopsis of the season is spot on and your picture of Season 4 is a brilliant piece of writing. Quote

But are there any characters left alive who might know that secret? The old Targaryen maester who serves at Castle Black, maybe? Kimmy, you rock; your synopsis of the season is spot on and your picture of Season 4 is a brilliant piece of writing. (blush!) thank you so much! Mighty AC Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 But are there any characters left alive who might know that secret? The old Targaryen maester who serves at Castle Black, maybe? Like you suggested Maester Aemon may know and possibly Ser Barristan Selmy?? He was part of that story line... Robert Baratheon always believed that Lyanna was kidnapped and raped, but I think it was Barristan that said he believed she loved Rhaegar. From what I understand Daenerys can't have anymore children, so her possible, eventual time at the top will be temporary. That's partly why I think it will turn out that Jon has some Targaryen blood in him. Mighty AC Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 So the Lannisters do pay their debts. A fair amount of book 3 didn't make it into season 3. Season 4 will start off at a much faster pace than 3. kimmy Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, and it reminded me of this thread for some reason... Here is how I picture a Yara Greyjoy storyline playing out:Season 4 episode 1:Yara stands at the wheel of her ship The Black Squid, as her crew of cut-throats scurry about tying ropes and doing other sailory-looking stuff. The wind tousles Yara's flowing locks.Yara: "Arrr, I be a saucy pirate wench, out to avenge me poor brother! Ye best be wary, Lord Bolton, because I am coming for your booty, and I be fixin' to drop anchor on your face!"Crewmen: "Arrr! Arrr! Arrr!" Season 4 is supposed to begin in Spring 2014 which seems like an awfully long ways away. aw, crap, the frickin' cops, what do they want?? And Season 3 is scheduled for release on DVD and Blu Ray on February 18, 2014, which also seems like an awfully long ways away. -k {Sorry, Pliny, it won't be available on VHS.} Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Mighty AC Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 That's an odd time to release the Season 3. I would have thought they would make it available before the Christmas shopping season. I'm just about finished with book 5 and will soon go into GOT withdrawal. I'll get the shakes and start seeing visions of dragons, dwarfs and white walkers. I wasn't sure if dwarfs or dwarves was correct. Spell check likes the former but Tolkien always used the latter in LOTR. Boges Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) Cable TV sensations Walking Dead and Game of Thrones on the surface may not have a lot in common. But now they both have Zombies and NOW Cannibals. Cannibals are clearly the new zombies. They're the IN TV Trope. First episode was good but we touched base with many but it's interesting that we still were missing several characters. - Bran, Hodor and the kid from Love Actually - Reek ERRR Theon and his sister looking to save him (The Dreadfort is in the opening skit) - Stannis and his Red Witch and whatever they're planning (I guess they're going North now) - What's Littlefinger and Varyis up to? 10 episodes really isn't enough to cover this many characters. Arya and The House clearly got the top billing in this episode for sure. Edited April 7, 2014 by Boges Quote
Mighty AC Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 The story grew so large that Martin ended up splitting the same time period into two books. Each novel dealt with only half of the story lines. The series is going to merge them together and proceed through all of the plots chronologically. So, I suspect they will use at least 2 seasons to cover that much ground. The merged approach should prove more entertaining, but viewers may also have trouble keeping all of the plot details straight when watching on a week to week basis. Which means they probably only have 3 more seasons before they run out of source material. Also in 3 years Arya and Bran won't look young anymore. I give GoT two more seasons until they shake things up somehow. Perhaps do the rest of the story as a re-boot with different characters or something. Quote

Its definitely an advantage to read the books, so hard to track everybody otherwise. Before the source material runs out they'll have another problem: keeping such a massive cast together. And the bioggest problem of all ios the glacial pace that Martin writes at- will he die before he finishes?. I vote yes. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

And the bioggest problem of all ios the glacial pace that Martin writes at- will he die before he finishes?. I vote yes. Glacial indeed. I only started reading the books a year or two ago, but it must have been torture for those who were reading as they were written. Book 3 was released in late 2000 and book 5 wasn't available until mid 2011. Considering books 4 and 5 are really one story dealing with half of the characters each, fans had to wait a decade for certain story lines to be advanced. I love the story, characters and world he created but I certainly would have lost interest if made to wait that long. Which means they probably only have 3 more seasons before they run out of source material. Apparently Martin has said books 4 and 5 will be the basis of 3 seasons of the series, which takes us to 2017. The next book "The Winds of Winter" will be released this fall, which could provide the story for the 2018 season, which is also when the final book is set to be released. overthere Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 thanks for the book timetable- good to know that it exists! Back to my concern- if the last book is out in 2018 and the last TV season is something like 2020- how on earth can the producers get the same cast together then and how would they manage to pay them if they can?. If the popularity of the series continues, the salary demands of the cast will be extreme. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!

If the popularity of the series continues, the salary demands of the cast will be extreme. It would have to be a re-boot. As I said, Arya would be in her late teens by the time a final season. Assuming she survives until the end. (no spoilers please) It would be interesting to see if Martin decides to kill people off that would make the progression of the TV series more difficult. One of the characters from Daenerys arcs is a new actor this season. Granted he only appeared in later episodes last season and he's a supporting character. Ultimately it's a TV Show, continuity isn't the most important thing. Edited April 8, 2014 by Boges Quote
