Shady
And yet another commentator prevented from speaking at a University in Canada. When will these fascist thugs/leftwing brownshirts be confronted and stopped? Sooner or later people are going to start to fight back. And I have to imagine the temptation of knocking the shit outta one of these pathetic freedom deniers must be overwhelming.
The_Squid
Why weren't they removed? Seems like a small number of idiots disrupting an event... fascists? Hardly... Thugs? Perhaps...

Robart
I find it odd somebody bothered to protest Christie Blatchford. What is she famous for? Moonlight Graham
Uh-oh, someone drops the F-bomb again! (as in "fascist"). Shady i think you mean authoritarian or totalitarian, not fascist. Or better yet, thugs.
kimmy
What is she famous for? I know she's a newspaper writer but I never heard of her name connected to any controversy. Maclean's magazine explains that she was there to speak about her book on the Caledonia thing. Wouldn't that be what a fascist would do? You know, if I'd taken time out of my day to attend a lecture, and was unable to see it because 5 scumbags decided amongst themselves that nobody should be able to hear the speaker, I would probably have a hard time keeping my temper (and my fists...) in check. “Our goal was to not let her speak, we accomplished that.” That's just infantile. These douchebags do not belong at a university, they belong in a playground. These people are dog crap. -k Edited November 16, 2010 by kimmy
Bonam
These scum should have been escorted (forcefully if necessary) out of the auditorium. That the university failed to do this is a disgrace to Waterloo and to Canadian institutions of post-secondary education as a whole.
bloodyminded
It's ridiculous behaviour. You let a person speak, and then you engage them in civil debate. It's not difficult. If her ideas are so odious to them, all the more reason to have them aired and parsed.
Shwa
...this is a disgrace to Waterloo and to Canadian institutions of post-secondary education as a whole. Are you sure it is only a disgrace to "Canadian institutions of post-secondary education as a whole?" Why not Canada as a whole? Heck, let's not stop there, how about Western Civilization as a whole? Or, by extension, all of humankind as a whole? Or all living things as a whole? How about we agree that it was a discrace to all objects and concepts in all universes as a whole? Gosh, no, that would be hyperbole. Edited November 16, 2010 by Shwa

Whereas your implication that this is here being blown way out of proportion is an understatement. It appears that some people believe that every single little event is elaborately emblematic. I think you disagree, and so do I. I could join the party, were it not so banal and fundamentally dishonest; and assert (with the helpful, irrefutable proof of Youtube, perhaps) that every bit of bad behaviour can be transposed over everyone with whom I have political disagreements. But I'd rather not stoop to it.
scribblet
They should've been escorted out and the speaker allowed to speak, just another example of left wing thugs shutting down free speech. I intend to read Blatchford's book when the library gets it in, if not I'll have to break down and buy it.
BubberMiley
They should've been escorted out and the speaker allowed to speak, just another example of left wing thugs shutting down free speech. But they got their message out. Why are you trying to suppress them? Just another example of right wingers trying to shut down the free expression of ideas. And why so quick to resort to violence? Just another example of right wingers trying to shut down the free expression of ideas. And why so quick to resort to violence? Where did I say I would resort to violence pray tell, I said they should be escorted out. Why where they suppressing free speech, why where they preventing an opposing opinion, get it right, they were the ones doing the suppressing. They could've protested outside but chose to prevent someone from speaking. Chained by his neck to two female protesters, University of Waterloo doctoral student Dan Kellar was nevertheless in control of the situation at a campus lecture hall last week, as he sat on stage and chanted slogans to prevent journalist and author Christie Blatchford from speaking about her new book on the native protests at Caledonia, Ont.Read more: http://www.nationalpost.com/news/Latest+tool+free+speech+bike+locks/3832811/story.html#ixzz15S7KOY3x
