Do we expect that they should have made a calendar that never ended? The calendar is in fact carved into the shape of a wheel, so it's obvious that the idea was that it's a cycle. Their remarkable calendar included many different intervals, including part of the cycle of planet Venus, and it is apparently a very accurate calendar, able to "work" in a repeated cycle for thousands of years with only minimal error. Unlike ours which seems to need constant adjustments, leap year, and those extra seconds of no-time we keep adding between 11:59:59 and 12:00:00 on new years eve. There is evidence that they had an excellent understanding of astronomy, and knew about the phases of Venus, and possibly about complex solar cycles. It's said that one of their elders prophesied the end of their culture, when a white devil comes across the sea on a floating island (Cortez?). Who knows how they understood it, apparently they ate lots of magic mushrooms. To me it seems that 2012 is just a really big, big, Mayan new years eve. Personally I am not sweating this one. Every doomsday prediction ever made has turned out completely wrong, and I am confident that the trend will continue. I recall seeing some shows as a kid that talked about ancient cultures and the end of the world. The Myans and the Egyptians both seem to have this notion in mind. The Myan calander goes up to 2012, and inside the great pyramid there is a pathway to the top middle of it. A foot is to represent a year or something of that nature, and the end of the line is about 2012 (middle of the pyramid) http://2012wiki.com/index.php?title=Great_...stone_calendar) Now of two cultures on opposite sides of the planet came to the same conclusion without interacting with each other. It may give it more legitimacy. I am not sure if any other ancient cultures came to a similar conclusion. Would be worth checking out. I am not sure if I buy into this endtimes. but just around the corner there is that blockbuster disaster movie called 2012. If you check out the trailers, it should be fun to watch because it will be so over the top as disaster movies go. Quote

It was once the craze to do the Nostrodamus boogie...then it was all the rage to look at the book of Revelations as a guideline of what was to come instead of a warning of what might be- no one knows when the end will come and certainly not a bunch of Myan blood drinkers who ate hearts to amuse themselves.
