It allows any Canadian to run for any public office AFAIK, so she can apply for the job. She won't get it (probably not any time soon anyway), but she can apply.

I'm torn.

On one hand, I think the US restriction on natural born citizens is too harsh. I see no rational reason why Arnold Schwarzenegger for instance should not be able to run for president.

On the other, we have to be sure that our leaders will not betray our interests in favor of what their previous country might want. An American born PM is a serious risk, no matter how you slice it. No one os going to make any accusations to this effect to Elizabeth May, but if Harper was the one who was in of similar heritage, he'd be crucified for it.

Your policy seems to be anti-American only. It's alright for an Austrian to be president of the U.S. , but not for an American to be PM of Canada, would a Austrian PM be okay. I personally believe that you should be born in Canada, and hold only Canadian citizenship, to be PM.

It is upsetting to see immigrants not being encouraged to integrate into Canadian culture. Like when people try to exclude immigrants from the political process for no other reason than their place of birth.

Immigrants are losers. They couldn't make it in their own country so they try to come over here and exploit Canada's internal divisions for their own monetary gain. Everyone knows being a politician is the gravy train. To be a politician in Canada is to be the ultimate mooch. You make a 140K a year tax free plus money for expenses. After 6 years you qualify for a pension. So really, Canada's politicians pretend to represent the people when they are really about leaching off the public for all its worth. It's also worth money being a political party. What is it, you get 2 dollars for every vote if your party gets 5% or more of the votes. Elected or Not there is money to be had from pursueing politics. If I were an immigrant looking for a way to not work, politics wiould certainly be an option.

No, not all of us are immigrants. Historical Canadians were settlers from France, England, or other countries in the CommonWealth. Immigrants are an invention of the last 30 years and propogated by the political, bureacratic, and media trash to brainwash the masses into this deluded view of Canada's historical and population evolution.

Some words to immigrants. Get an effing job or go back to wherever you came from. I don't have the luxury of going back to another Country as my ancestoral origins are that of France and England.

If that is an option for me produce the documents from France and England granting my return. At todays juncture the only way for this to happen is if Canada is escorted back into the EU via a proclamation from the Queen.

How did Canada journey into this downward spiral to become a 3rd world Country? The answer is clear, Canada is now home to other countries unwanted rejects. These countries were all to happy to get rid of the dead weight losers and drag on their economies. Instead of these country rejects dragging their home countries economies down, they are here in Canada dragging Canada's GDP down and doing their part in turning Canada into a low income country.

Wow... what a profound analysis...

Here's what's really happening: Canada wants to avoid investing in breeding its own people and chose to import immigrants instead. Not only they are not "rejects" - they are the best of the educated and well-off middle-class of whatever countries they come from - the cream of their societies.

They arrive grown-up, cared for, educated, with English / French, a profession and some money.

Why invest in free or affordable daycare, quality public schools, affordable universities? Immigrants already have all that... They are young, energetic and ready to work... very much unlike a big part of the local population who are on welfare / unemployment / disability etc. that could be referred to as "dead weights"....

Again, I hope I haven't insulted anyone here...
