No doubt...many of the wonks who criticize so called "MSM" are just partisans who want consumers to care more for their pet causes, thinking that media packaging and bias are the enemy. Sometimes we just don't give a damn either way, and that's OK. Maybe they would prefer that we go back to the days of only believing holy men with magic dust. Ironically, the very "alternative" media cited as authentic often use MSM sources. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

She has a BA in psychology from McMaster University and a MA in journalism from the University of Western Ontario. She lives in Hamilton, Ontario. Do you think shamed journalists Jayson Blair and Stephen Glass were rare bad apples? Far from it, they were just the ones stupid enough to get caught. Alexandra Kitty demonstrates with example upon example how manufactured news is endemic in our media and shows the reader how to spot suspicious stories. In the last few years, the journalism industry has cut costs by eliminating important safeguards: companies have reduced the number of fact-checkers, editors, and journalists. What this means is that editors and reporters cannot spend time verifying information. Moreover, journalists are not required to have professional experience or training to cover their beats. Fierce competition to get a scoop may lead to journalists making careless errors or not double-checking information. To maintain audiences and readership, journalists, editors and producers will choose sensational stories that "shock." Combined with time and budget constraints, journalists may unwittingly or deliberately disseminate false or misleading information to the public. It is important to "get" a story, interview a subject or nab a scoop first-the accuracy of these elements is secondary. Competition from other media outlets also means the goal of a journalist is to get the scoop first-how it makes it on the air (flawed, inaccurate, questionably obtained) is unimportant. Another interesting critic of MSM is Robert McChesney http://www.robertmcchesney.com/ I've read the book "it's the media stupid" co-written with John H. Nichols I've also heard both men interviewed a number of times wrt varying books. Always interesting. BTW: this line alone "It is important to "get" a story, interview a subject or nab a scoop first-the accuracy of these elements is secondary." makes me think of the 'truthiness' surrounding the recent iran hysteria Edited January 20, 2008 by kuzadd Quote Insults are the ammunition of the unintelligent - do not use them. Yes. well, we have to lose our victimisation mind-patterns, and don't be afraid to inform others of what is going on. They can work because they work in secret, so, if we expose them.... And yet you apparently believe read anything you read. Anybody capable of critical thinking should be scratching his head at this article within a matter of moments. obsidian Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Remain ignorant...if you chose so. I am sure none of these men knew what they were talking about... “We are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covet means for expanding its sphere of influence; on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which as conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly-knit highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific, and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed.” JFK “… there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it's in my control.” JFK “The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know that a financial element in the large centers has owned the Government of the U.S. since the days of Andrew Jackson.” Franklin D. Roosevelt, “The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists.” | J. Edgar Hoover (hey sounds like alot of you eh?) “Today, America would be outraged if UN troops entered Los Angeles to restore order. [Referring to the 1991 L.A. riots] Tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told that there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all people of the world will plead to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well-being granted to them by the world government.” | Henry Kissinger (Bilderberg Conference 1991 Evians, France) (9/11 and patriot acts I & II) “For more than a century, ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it." | David Rockefeller, Memoirs , 2002 “We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order.” David Rockefeller (can you say 9/11) “We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine and other publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected the promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world-government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the National auto-determination practiced in past centuries.” | David Rockefeller (thanking the media for lying to us, the media which the majority of you trust fully) “If the people knew what we had done, they would chase us down the street and lynch us.” | President George H.W. Bush to journalist Sarah McClendon, December 1992, in response to the question, "What will the people do if they ever find out the truth about Iraq-gate and Iran contra?" “Stop throwing the Constitution in my face! It's just a [expletive deleted] piece of paper!” George W. Bush (nice...) “The interests behind the Bush Administration, such as the CFR, the Trilateral Commission – founded by Brzezinski for David Rockefeller – and the Bilderberg Group have prepared for and are now moving to implement open world dictatorship within the next five years.” | Dr. Johannes Koeppl – former official of the German Ministry for Defense and adviser to NATO. (hey that was in 1997, 9/11/01 was 4 years later pretty close) “The easiest way to gain control of the population is to carry out acts of terror. The public will clamor for such laws if the personal security is threatened.” | Joseph Stalin (false flag attacks have been used many times...) “The Technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by elite, unrestrained by traditional values.” | Zbigniew Brezhinsky , Advisor to 5 U.S. Presidents - Executive Director Trilateral Commission. "Between two Ages" “If you want to remain slaves of the bankers and pay for the costs of your own slavery, let them continue to create money and control the nation's credit.” | Sir Josiah Stamp 1880-1941 “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous than standing armies...
