  1. Stephen Harper's mantra: God bless Canada, good; I love Canada, bad
  2. Please read the Secret Mulroney Tapes to see the true worth of "lyin' Brian." My God, the guy's ego needs a postal code. I'd take Turner over Mulroney anyday just on his NAFTA fight alone.
  3. Seems to me we lower the flag for unelected Senators when they die, RCMP officers, but we can't lower if for the young folks giving their lives for us. Not sure if I totally understand.
  4. My 2 cents: Until it's proven it is a deterence (it's not), that it's cheaper (it's not), and will not create a single innocent death (it will), it is reduced to a barbaric method for vengence.
  5. FTA, I was speaking in principle terms, not legal. We need a system change, not more legislation, registration, etc. etc. And like I said, it's a toss up whether I want a convicted pedophile living next to me versus a Catholic Priest who has been transferred out of a parish where he has offended. As far as protecting human rights, I have rethought the situation: chemical castration or stay in prison.
  6. Sure, while we're at it have a registry for everyone coming out of prison. NOT. They've served their time folks. There are some Catholic Priests that are a greater danger than some of the peds.
  7. Honest? Well, the CPC was off to a bad start re accountability with the Emerson/Fortier fiasco.
  8. KrustyKidd, Watergate and the Iran/contra business were well on their way to becoming unsolved history until the press uncovered them. Strange too how the republicans were in power during these affairs.
  9. theloniusfleabag, what about Libby's testimony that Bush authorized leaks?
  10. Plame or not, Dubya/White House denied sensitive information leaks eight times. Enough is enough. http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Dem_lead...clean_0406.html
  11. Perhaps not, but they have done a hell of a lot to protect the environment.
  12. Cheney corrected himself moments later apparently, from the same source: Q Okay. A couple of things, I think a couple of minutes ago -- I want to make sure -- you said Osama bin Laden wasn't involved in 9/11 planning. You meant Saddam Hussein, correct? That Saddam Hussein was not involved in September 11th? THE VICE PRESIDENT: Correct. Yes, sir. Q Okay. THE PRESIDENT CHENEY: Thanks for straightening that out. I didn't realize I'd done that. (Laughter.) Q Yes. Well, otherwise we'd have a whole lot more stories to deal with. THE VICE PRESIDENT: Oh, yes. All right. Well, I appreciate it.
  13. For Immediate Release March 29, 2006 Q I want to be clear because I've heard you say this, and I've heard the President say it, but I want you to say it for my listeners, which is that the White House has never argued that Saddam was directly involved in September 11th, correct? THE VICE PRESIDENT: That's correct. We had one report early on from another intelligence service that suggested that the lead hijacker, Mohamed Atta, had met with Iraqi intelligence officials in Prague, Czechoslovakia. And that reporting waxed and waned where the degree of confidence in it, and so forth, has been pretty well knocked down now at this stage, that that meeting ever took place. So we've never made the case, or argued the case that somehow Osama bin Laden [sic] was directly involved in 9/11. That evidence has never been forthcoming. But there -- that's a separate proposition from the question of whether or not there was some kind of a relationship between the Iraqi government, Iraqi intelligence services and the al Qaeda organization. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/20...20060329-2.html Whoa, talk about a Freudian slip.
  14. He ain't running again and he vowed "to pursue an aggressive speaking and organizing campaign aimed at promoting foster care, Republican candidates and a closer connection between religion and government." Not crazy about that last one. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,...1179853,00.html
  15. Monty, I don't think you read the entire article. Here's from your link: He added, however, that the study also showed that over the past 20 years the number of sunspots had remained roughly constant, while the Earth's temperature had continued to increase. This suggested that over the past 20 years, human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation had begun to dominate "the natural factors involved in climate change", he said. Dr Gareth Jones, a climate researcher at the Met Office, said that Dr Solanki's findings were inconclusive because the study had not incorporated other potential climate change factors.
  16. I put my faith in the U.S. national organizations that have been studying this problem for years. If anyone has a handle on the effect of our harmful emissions, it's these folks: http://www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/default.asp http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/globalwarming.html http://yosemite.epa.gov/oar/globalwarming....tent/index.html http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/environment/ice_sheets.html
  17. Actually, I think it was Chretien.
  18. Benedict XV was a grand humanitarian and strong critic of war. Where is this Nazi past? He died in 1922? Are you just making this stuff up now? Oops, my bad. Meant Benedict XVI
  19. I take it you would accept the State of Palestine? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Palestine
  20. Yeah, I know it's a generalization, but it's the perception I have. Unrealistic? Perhaps. And yeah, the waiting time in Canada is disgusting. But I see this thru the lens of someone having a disability. My overall medical costs would have been astronomical if I lived in the States. So to each his own I guess.
  21. I don't know. While I wouldn't walk down the street after dark in some cities in Canada, I would definitely feel less safe doing so in every city in the States. Just too much crime, too many people. And I certainly challenge your last statement. My niece almost went bankrupt with medical bills. Wouldn't happen up here.
