More Tory MPs question wisdom of another gay-marriage vote
newbie replied to a topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Speaking one's opinion is one thing but calling a homosexual relationship evil is another. Mr. Henry has a habit of over speaking his mind (do a Goggle search). Not only is he outspoken, he lacks compassion. And I heard that from one of his Priests. I think if any other public offical tarred a group evil, that is enough reason to be human rights complaint. -

He said more than that. In particular, "An evil act remains an evil act whether it is performed in public or in private." His opinion yes, but also an irresponsible comment. I believe he went over the line on this one. http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...shop050116.html -
Your response surprises me, Newbie. Electoral fraud is ALWAYS a story. The outcome of the 2004 election isn't the issue - makes no difference whether Kerry conceded. It's how voters were denied and defrauded of their constitutional rights. The election was fixed, as has also been suggested by investigations into goings-on in Florida in 2000. This issue is/should be in the news currently and not die until a full investigation is undergone, the laws corrected and loopholes plugged. Until then, US voters will continue to be denied absolute assurance that the outcomes of future elections do in fact reflect the people's choice. My point was that even Kerry wasn't and isn't interested in pursuing the matter. I realize there are probably voter inconsistencies in Ohio, (not to mention Florida 2000) but I don't think the investigation will go anywhere, at least not until there's a change in Congress.

You know, if you changed that rant to something against, say, Mexicans or Frenchmen or Nigerians everyone would call you a racist and bigot. And rightly so. You know, if you got that pole out of your kiester you might just realize Rue's "rant" was a light hearted satirical view of America. And largely true I might add.

Marines might face the death penalty
newbie replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The problem was that A US military investigation has found there was no misconduct by US troops over Iraqi civilian deaths in the town of Ishaqi, a spokesman says. When you investigate yourself you have the classic fox guarding the hen house scenario. At the end of the day it is reduced to just some more innocent Iraqis dead. -
T, as long as you remain in the victim mode, noone or nothing is likely to get through to you. I answered your question about equality and you get on this kick about "all natives want is the land." So in your view, all immigration is illegal. And you wonder why some people have a prejudice against native people. I'll state it again. Give every native a quarter section and be done with it. No more treaties, no more handouts. That's what the homesteaders got and most did very well with that. Try and bring your views up to the 21st Century. And for the record, Monty's views were, while racist, in keeping with the feelings of a lot of people. Right or wrong, that's the reality.

Yep, for 75 million. Let's see how MSM handles this one. http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/69383.htm

We get it Monty, you hate liberals. And not sure but I think Mr. Singh is an anarchist.

Was declaring a "war on terror" a bad idea?
newbie replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Was declaring a "war on terror" a bad idea? Not when you want to rule by fear. -
Naci, that article won't fly on this forum. Plus, Kerry conceded. Pretty much ends the story.

al-Gore: It's okay to lie about Kyoto...
newbie replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Funny, I couldn't find Liberalism in the DSM-IV (The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition). But what I did find was a term that most of the right could very likely suffer from: PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER. A few symptoms: * suspicious; unfounded suspicions; believes others are plotting against him/her * preoccupied with unsupported doubts about friends or associates * reluctant to confide in others due to a fear that information may be used against him/her * reads negative meanings into innocuous remarks * bears grudges * perceives attacks on his/her reputation that are not clear to others, and is quick to counterattack http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/paranoia.jsp Actually, now that I look at this list I think some of the religious right might fit here as well. -
It's not a black and white issue that your little poem suggests. Both of my parents suffered, and near the end, when no hope of recovery was possible, they were given extra morphine and/or had feeding tubes removed. There was only one word used to describe what our family ultimately decided: compassion. We treat some of our animals better than some of our dying parents.

al-Gore: It's okay to lie about Kyoto...
newbie replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Whew! You guys have got all the bases covered. No matter what happens, mankind is always "proved" to be the cause. Colour me convinced! Forget everything I wrote earlier! Scratch that - I'm sure you already have. Mankind is the cause the only cause of environmental "degradation" and Kyoto atonement is the only source of absolution for the planet. Are you guys sure you aren't a religion? I mean, come on, you have to see the parallels. This is not left or right or religious. From the article:]Most scientists involved in research on this topic agree that the culprit is global warming, melting the icebergs on Greenland and the Arctic icepack and thus flushing cold, fresh water down into the Greenland Sea from the north. When a critical threshold is reached, the climate will suddenly switch to an ice age that could last minimally 700 or so years, and maximally over 100,000 years. These are dedicated scientists who are studying this. We are creating the problem that will only produce more environmental instabilities. Do you really think the ozone layer has depleted itself without our help? -

You are so going to eat these words after the next ice age starts. Don't think so. Any future ice age will be caused by our inattention to global warming. http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0130-11.htm -

Right has lost the arugument on global warming so Al Gore ad hominems abound. Much expected behaviour from our favorite cartoon charater. -
Not too hard to figure out. Rescind all special status for everyone. Don't you think that treaties and reservations are holding the rest of Canada hostage, like the French demands as well? How about we pay all individual natives out once and for all, teach some integration skills and be done with it. There has to come a time T. when we can no longer support all reservation natives. This is not the 1800's, and the claim that "the white man has caused us to be like we are (addicts)" is wearing real thin. How long to you expect to ride on Canada's shirt tails. Equal to me means equal, like everyone else who wakes up and goes to work and earns his way in the world. Yeah, I grant you the Natives might have got a few rough shakes in the process, but so did a lot of a people. I live between two huge reservations and now our city is contemplating an urban reserve. When is enough is enough?

How, by locking the Premiers in a room while Mulroney rolled the dice at Meech Lake. By giving Quebec veto over most constitutional amendments, by declaring them a distinct society? By giving them absolute power to appoint 3/9 Supreme Court Justices? The one good thing Mulroney did was give the Country a national referendum on the Charlottetown Accord, where it died a necessary death. But I digress. No one would be better off if Confederation was dissolved.

What a ridiculous thread. At the rist of echoing some other comments wouldn't it be wise to look at the reasons why "your" people are occupying most of the spaces in Canadian jails before judging other races as potential killing machines? As for "Euro-Canadian," I was born here and am not a hypenated Canadian. My grandparents were born in other countries and left their culture and language behind when they moved here. They wanted to totally integrate into the existing society. Instead of racially profiling, how about working towards the definition and identification of all Canadians being equal.

More bad news for Bush. A bunch of countries are or will be pulling out of the fiasco that is the Iraq war. Does anyone see our forces increasing perchance? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060530/ap_on_...dling_coalition

Too bad Dubya doesn't live the Christian life he espouses. -
See, the above is hubris. The thread topic is reality. It's right on topic Krusty. Like I said on another thread, My Lai all over again.

Yeah, big time. For the 2004 election, he garnered 78% of the evangelical vote, 59% of Protestant vote and 52% of the Catholics. Pretty clear to me who put him in power.
