Killjoy said So we do not have alot of rights in this country? Is this what you are getting at? And yes it is starting to mimic what goes on south of the border. We have some people held on 'security certificates' indefinately. I would assume it is like a court ordered indefinate detention. But all criminals deserve due process. And if that is not being practiced, then we can lock up anyone for any reason.... slippery slope analogy here. And remember in this country it is 'INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY' not the other way around. The media and even some politicians have 'accused and convicted' them of the crime. So in the public eye they are all guilty The Lawyer is doing what he can for his clients (like all damn scumbag lawyers do) Come on, making them walk like that? If you have them in chains (feet and hands) wtf can they do? That is just really (*^&%! stupid. I am in no way defending their actions, for there is a good chance (well 100% chance) each one will be hauled off to jail. Maybe the minors will get off. This is a trial and they have to get due process before they are found guilty. But to everyone they are already guilty, pre-installed bias in the public (not to mention they are muslims which is already a mark against them for most people) All this eventually affects your freedoms and rights. You to can end up there in jail for no reason and held indefinately. No to me that does not make us better than them. Be the better man, treat them like normal criminals so as to not shed light and give into this spiraled out of control 'war on terrorism' and give in to the fear that is terrorism. Treat them like a common criminal , do not bring attention to them, try them and lock them up if convicted. And just be done with it. This is nothing but a media circus and a trial to let us all know that "WE CAN BE NEXT" OH and Teddy, comparing Supermax to a 5 Star resort is disingenuous at best. I am sure you can come up with some better comparisons than that.

Unfortunately, you're missing the point. He didn't get away with anything. He's innocent. However, it's an odd comment from you. I guess he's guilty until proven innocent, and even then, he's guilty? How very liberal of you. I can't say that I'm suprised. Innocent untill proven guilty. To bad all those in GITMO do not get the same treatment.

Bush Makes Surprise Visit to Iraq
GostHacked replied to Johnny Utah's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It's called a PR stunt. How else is he going to get better in the polls? Considering he has the lowest approval rating of his Administration .. or of any other administration for that matter (I am guessing so please be gentle) -

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/06/12/dhs.fakeid/index.html Retired NY Policeman who lost his son on Sept 11, 2001, gets a forged Mexican ID (that cannot be used to enter government facilities) with a different birthdate walks RIGHT IN to DHS. Somehow I don't think the government is up to snuff par as well. -
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/06/12/...tors/index.html Now I think I know where those emergency war funds go to. Like holy crap dudes. Most of the money goes to some security or paramilitary group. Just wow. So money gets poured into Iraq and right back into the pockets of those firms. The reason they give? The military does not want to do those job. Like you have a damn choice, you singed up, and put on the uniform. Do your job soldier, or I understand that they are in a dangerous spot and should get paid for their time. But making a years pay in 3 months is quite drastic. How about paying the men and women in uniform higer wages? How about putting that money into rebuilding Iraq? How about getting the military to do their job (instead of private security firms)? So it seems for the most part that the money is going back to the U.S. Such a waste. Anyone else see this as being very wrong? Like I know companies are in business to make a profit, but THAT much of a profit? War = Good for buisness.
-
Spot on. Lots of businesses are gonna have to pay out to someone to have the systems recalibrated for this measly 1% drop in a certain tax. NIGHTMARES for small business owners. Some may not be able to afford the change and just .. close shop. So in the end this may not save any money for anyone.

Terrorist arrested after botched bombing
GostHacked replied to Black Dog's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Pat Robertson is JUST AS DANGEROUS as any extremist muslim leader. What he spews from his mouth is nothing but unadulterated bigotry and racism. He has made his voice clear and heard. And people listen to him, THAT makes him just as dangerous. Any top religious leader had a duty to be the better man. Religion seems to promote more bigotry around the world than anything else. God hates gays, God hates this, and that, and this and that. Does not sound like a very loving god to me at all. Not something I want to be a part of. I both in the same light (being agnostic/athiest) both are crazy and need to have their soap box and microphone taken away. So many rumours and lies are spread by both religious leaders it really makes me sick. -
A List of Canadian Terrorists
GostHacked replied to Johnny Utah's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...ati-client.html Form their lawyer, they don't stand a chance on a fair trial. Remember this is a criminal activity. The accused should get due process. I have a feeling this whole trial will be a farce. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories Quote from Galati, the lawyer for one of the accused. This I can agree with. Not saying they are not guilty, but that has yet to be proven in any way shape or form. Remember they are all just suspects right now (and with evidence, some shakey at best). Innocent until proven guilty. If this trial is not done in that fashion, this will set a bad precident for future trials regarding terrorism or anything else for that matter. -
Just refuse anyone from countries that do not even have a stable government to start.

After Halliburton and the crude, the next leftest meme explaining the "real" purpose of the Iraq war is to say the US military wants to obtain real estate for permanent bases. Frankly, I don't think anything in the Middle East is permanent (the US once had bases in Iran). In any case, the US has a more secure air and naval base in Diego Garcia. Iran hosted US military bases? When was this? Before the hostage crisis? Links please?
-
Well they hinted at it. ANd the article says that it clears the way for perm bases in Iraq, but they have not gone through with that .... yet. Personaly I had a feeling this was going to happen all along, as I have said in other posts.

Caledonia problem didnt arise overnight
GostHacked replied to Enskat Kenraken Ronkwe's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Ahni, The Bilderberg meeting you described was from the 8th to 11th (today) So I doubt all this stuff happeneing in Caledonia has anything to do with the Bilderberg Group. I don't see the connection. Also, N or Toronto is innacurate. It was held in Kanata (west suburb of Ottawa) -

So this means they can now put the focus back on Bin Laden? Why the hell are we even going 'back' to him? He should have been taken out in the first place. -

How the hell does the U.S. Border Patrol get involved in this thing anyways?? Are the natives a threat at all to the U.S.? From the articles I am reading it is about them observing how we handle things. Why? What purpose does that serve? -
So I am still heading out there tomorrow with my camera (not like I will uncover anything). am really surprised about the amount of press this group has gotten in our press. Ottawa Sun had a 2 page article. Ottawa Citizen has a blurb on it. CTV.ca has articles on it. All over the press. amazed. Also seems like Alex Jones was held at the gates at the Ottawa Airport when he landed. He was stopped at the gates by request of the Bilderbergs (Ottawa Sun), but after a CBC and an Ottawa Citizen reporter told the security guards he was actualy a press member. He was being held and they checked out his computers to find any porn. Even if the porn was legal they would incarcerate him. The other two reporters vouched for him and he was set free. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories

Time to "Call it a Day" for the United Nations
GostHacked replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Not really advocating anything here. Just pointing out the hypocracy that is Bolton. Bolton was sent to the UN to try to reform it. Bolton has CLEARLY voiced his opinion and the US stance on the UN. Undermined it as much as he could to say that the UN needed reforming. Bitching about the reform that happened (for these reforms clearly are not in the best interest of the US) Cake and eat it too. Something about I cannot have both. -
Harper is taking a page out of the US propoganda book
GostHacked replied to AndrewL's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You mean the right to bare arms. I will take a page out of the US propaganda book if you let me. If you are going to take my money (and call it taxation) and spend it on law and order, then make sure we have law and order on the streets. If you are not going to provdie law and order on the streets, then give me back my money and let me protect myself. Something I can get behind. Awesome point. -

We do and we are. You can multiply the number of cops until we're all cops and they still won't prevent crime. Steel bars on windows, loud alarm systems, decent work, decent jail sentences and friendly dogs all prevent crime more than the police can. . If everyone was a cop, then that would mean alot more can abuse the system. We know that there are shady cops that are trying to 'server and protect'. I know shady cops that abuse the system. I have been friends with them. And even other cop friends of mine say that the shadyness exists in the police forces. How can they protect and serve us and actualy make a good arrest when the cops themselves are the ones doing worse crimes. -

I live in Ottawa, and let me tell you, there are a fair share of cops/security around. And I do not even hit downtown (used to live there). I see cops on my way to work, security personelle along the transit routes. "Security" cars running around doing their checks for the jobs they were hired for. Ottawa is blanketed with police forces. Do I feel safer? Not sure. Those cameras are there to help control crime. London is plastered with CCT cameras. They took pics of the bombers, we know who did them and all, .....but yet were very ineffective with preventing the crime. So was it worth it? Let me sell you a rock that protects you against bears. -

Bolton trashed the UN at almost every chance he got. He was sent there to try and reform the UN. I thought the goal was to strengthen the UN no weaken it. Good job Bolton, you must be proud. -

Get back to the topic at hand guys and stop filling up the place with garbage. Both of you. Now I don't mind an increase for the military, just because it has been neglected for so long. We do not need the BEST army in the world, but we need an army and equipment that works. And works together. Budget cuts risk more soldiers lives with shoddy equipment (those jeeps in Afghanistan and the ever so great Sea King) Fewer soldiers, better equipment.
