Leave your flippant remarks at the door and offer a solution then. Explain how negotiating with religious fanatics is possible? They don't believe in reason, they believe in faith. Help those who don't understand how diplomacy can work to understand. I have a hard time trying to negotiate with teh extreeeeeeem Christian Right. It is not a flippant remark if the remark is true. It is not diplomacy they or us need to understand. It is each other we need to understand. Untill then, people are going to get killed. Today the notion of 'live and let live' is dead.

Mel Gibson Apologizes for Tirade After Arrest
GostHacked replied to a topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
This has to be one of the biggest non-stories out there it is rediculous. Ottawa Citizen had NOTHING better that day but to run about 5 to 7 seperate and different articles on Mel Gibson's comments. There were 10 articles about the Lebanon/Israel/Hezbollah conflict. I blame the media for even putting this thing in the spotlight. And it seems like poeple are talking about this as much as the conflict in the Middle East. Personaly I really could not care WHAT Mel says. Overall it won't mean shit. Have we got nothing better to talk about? Should we still watch his movies? Should we give him another chance? Is he worse than any other Hollywood actor or actress? How many go on rants? How many get busted for drugs/hookers/drinkin? How many go to rehab? How many reoffend? FFS this is such a waste of everyones time discussing this. If you don't like him. Fine just vote with your eyes and don't watch his movies. Mad Max will still be one of me all time fave sci-fi movies. Also people are way toooooooo sensitive these days. I have a German background and have been called NAZI since I was a kid. Does it offend me? Hell no, I laugh at it. This would be a great debate if these actions came from a politician. But from a movie star? I also see this as a diversion from the real problem, which is a few thousand miles away in the Middle East. -
The Native Shakedown of Innocent People Continues
GostHacked replied to Riverwind's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If I build something on disputed land that brings me to this. A) Does owning the land allow you to claim anything that others built on it? Does building on someone elses land give you rights to that land? Both answers to me seems to be NO. You should not be allowed to built on disputed land claims. But I can see building on disputed lands to try and claim it as your own. 'Look we have been here for years and no one said anything untill now? Why should I have to leave now?' How long will it be before native indians will become 'terrorists' Surprised that term has not been thrown at them before. Or I have not been reading enough news on that subject. -
To me that is not good news. To hear NATO saying that in 4 months they will be able to determine if they can maintain control of Afghanistan. The Taleban could be back in power within a year. At that point I will say the War on Terror has failed. This would send a ripple effect throughout the Middle East as well. Iraq would be next, but that would take longer to find out that they are not being effective at reducing the violence at all. (looks like it is increasing more and more) If that happens, I would expect countries that are anti-west, will step up the rhetoric and would vailidate their tactics as terrorsists. All this resulting into the loss of the War on Terror. The beacon of democracy is growing dim.

3 Palestinians Found With Over 1000 Cell Phones in US
GostHacked replied to sharkman's topic in The Rest of the World
They just happen to be of 'Palestinian decent' but living in Texas? I smell a Reuters. With all the negativity about Israel, this should now gain them some support. -
They still have fists and punches t o throw. But it would make it easier for dialogue.

Maybe "their job" involved examining every single ridiculous container. I think they should ban every stupid container. If their were two airlines: Airline 1: bans all stupid containers (idiot packrat-travellers not accepted) Airline 2: permits all of the stupid containers but makes everybody wait to have all of their stupid containers inspected I would buy my tickets from the Airline 1, thank you very much! and have a safe flight home. Why do people need their own bottled water or their own juice?? They serve you on the plane! Even with Airline #1 that bans it all, they are still checking every peice of luggage for banned items. The wait in the line will be the same for both. Not to mention full body cavity search.
-
I think it is rediculous to ban all these liquids. Bottles water, juice, even toiletries. Come on. The plot was thwarted, because someone did their damn job. That should not all of a sudden be a reason to put a ban on bringing liquids and gels onboar. This is gonna result in a huge buying spree for said products they left behind when they get to the destination. This takes money out of the average persons pocket as well. Well the plot was avoided, good job.

And how many Civilians?? Lebanese or Israeli ?

So you totally approve of this policy that Conservatives have been in suport of since 1994? I don't know yet. I'll have to see what they do with it. So far all I've seen is speculation. I do know that suggesting political influence was removed from military procurement in 1994 is ludicrous. Argus, this seems like the wrong line of thinking to me. Wait and see the results? Or how about being proactive finding out what it details and entails and then make the decision NOW before it all gets implemented and screws things up.

I think it is good for Quebec nationalism. I also think it might be good for Quebec sales. If a private advertizing company can sway a population's common political opinion, maybe federalists should develop an advertizing program of their own to counter it. I am sure that Canadians would be happy to send their taxes to fund such advertizement contracts. As an aside: Can the Labatt Bleue corporation (or any corporation for that matter) run as a political party? with their own candidates? Analogous to their last mock federal election advertizement campaign, can they do that for real? They have lobbyists? Not quite as good as an elected leader, but it is a start

First: Jews made up 55 per cent of the population of the Jewish areas at the time of partition, not 66 per cent. You neglect to mention that Jews made up just 33 per cent of the population of the mandate in 1947, yet were allotted 57 per cent of the territory. link Keep throwin out those numbers BD. Facts are facts it seems. http://news.sky.com/skynews/video/videopla..._060806,00.html Check out Mr Galloway. I can see why news reporters fear him. This guy just beats up and down on the reporter. To make her voice heard, the studio lowers his volume and raises her so she speaks over him. This man rocks. He explains why there is so much hate in the area.

And just because Harper is my Prime Minister does not mean I voted for him, and he speaks for only half of the country. He does not speak for me. Those ministers were democraticly elected. Also how the hell do you get your country together when you have Isreal causing shit, then pulling out in the 80s, and have Syria FSU for some time, then they pull out and Israel is back in. How the hell are you suposed to get a working government when the countries around you have their fingers in the pie? Look they are not even caring anymore. Civilians are warned not to head outdoors or use vehicles to move around. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/08/08/...main/index.html You realize Hezbollah gets in, fires off some rockets then gets out of the area before the F-16s come in. By the time Israel has fired, Hezbollah is long gone and you have massive civilian casutalties and sever damage to the country's overall infrastructure. Israel's tactics are not working. Israel is smarter than that. They have better training and top grade USofA imported weapon systems. They simply know better. If you are outdoors in a car. You WILL BE TARGETED. This shows blatent disregard for the general population of Lebanon. Bombed back to the stone age indeed.

I dunno there cybercoma http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...483-601,00.html Here is what one general said (no names?? boo) http://news.scotsman.com/politics.cfm?id=1146482006 The Lebanese Army cannot handle the effort alone. Personaly I am not sure I would send in my troops to battle Hezbollah when you have continuous air strikes from Israel in the south of Lebanon. That means I need to worry about Hezbollah and Israel firing upon you. I doubt the IFD would even be able to distinguish between the two.

You were paid 5 bucks to write news reports? And these got printed? I would have ratted on those drunk ass 'reporters'. I guess I can trust those news sources as well. ALL MEDIA IS BIASED. Grrr
-
My point is there is no one reporting the news that does not have an agenda. Those photos were grisly but they also provided no context - they could have been accidental or they could have even have been legimate Hizbolla targets or they could have been innocent civilians deliberately killed. All of the information we get is manipulated in some way and it is next to impossible for those of us living far away to seperate the truth from the manipulation. News from home can be faked just as easily. Why? People are sheep and take everything they see/get at face value. They don't question anything.

Recall those doctored photos of service men in George Bush's campain pics? This kind of shit will happen way too often now with the advent of technology to produce images and doctor them. And yes, everything is suspect now. I have been wondering about that for some time. Now I will be looking at pics a little more closer and scutinize it.

Betsy. I think the better question is 'Is Canada becoming anti-Israel?' If I hated Jews being an anti-semite, I would be attacking Jews here at home instead of abroad. But that is not the case (well there was one case in the US) If it was true anti-semite, then you would hear stronger language than what we here. If it was true anti-semite, it would not matter what Israel does. A jew hater is a jew hater. But being anti-Israel is different. But those who question Israel and it's right to exist (like I do) are labeled as an anti-semite. For what it is worth I don't really like or support the United States of America. That does not mean I hate it's citizens. But the actions of a whole country is what is making me angry. Once people can see the difference between anti-Israel and anti-semite, then we can sit down at the table and discuss this. Untill then, people can keep calling me an anti-semite and never have the chance to actually hear what I have to say.

Wrong again Rue. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,206514,00.html http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/08/01/...main/index.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5236834.stm http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/08/01/...in1853364.shtml The Bekaa Valley is not in the south. There are troops in the area. Israel has widened their attack strategy. When will you say that enough is enough? When Hezbollah is gone? At the same time devestating Lebanon? I cannot see this working. Lebanon is getting pounded from the ground/air from the south and the navy is lobbing stuff from the west. I am not wrong and you should carefully read what they were doing before you suggest troops have landed. In fact there was a limited commando attack -that is NOT TROOPS LANDING. More to the point Israel will attack where-ever Hezbollah operates. That is the point. If you want to know the difference between a strategic commando attack and troops landing perhaps you should read more carefully. Foxnews said it was a MAJOR OPERATION CNN said that they hit the ground with boots running. BBC saif they had troops on the gound and in that hospital as well as taking out two fuel stations. CBS tells us it is a major operation. I read what was printed. Israeli troops are on the ground in the Bekaa valley. Wether it is large numbers or a small tactical unit,,, the fact is ISRAELI TROOPS are on the ground in the Bekaa Valley. Are you denying this then? Are you saying that this is all bull? If so, who can you trust in the reporting? A small tactical Israeli Defence Force team on the ground is not considered TROOPS on the ground? How can you make such a distinction? How many troops need to be on the ground before you can consider them being there? Yes it is all about the 'language' one uses top describe said events. That 'language' can be twisted and the story and view changes based on the 'language' used. And Rue.. I am still waiting for an answer to this question. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index....st&p=125071 I asked you to point out, on a global map, where the nation state of Palestine exists.

That oil spill has the potential to kill a good portion of the marine life in the Mediterranean Sea. It took years to clean up the coastline in Alaska. This can take longer due to the area it has spread to and the amount of contanimation. The Exxon tanker spill was contained as quickly as possible. That won't even start there untill the war is over and done with. The longer it takes to get on top of the clean up, the longer it will take TO clean up.

Bush's pig tales show disengagement
GostHacked replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Perhaps you could have something of substance to offer once in a while rather than just live up to your "don't listen' tag. When someone believes that Cheney is pulling the strings, the foil hat analogy is fitting whether you can see it or not. And when you get more real news from a guy on Comedy Central than you get from MSM, I will stick with the tin foil hat crowd. -
Rice 'believe's alot of things judging by that article. Just because there is one of each in the new parliment (it was set up that way) does not mean there is not a civil war going on. Just because we have a President who is a Democrat and a Vice-President who is a Republican, does not mean that the whole of the US is under one new thinking now. Regardless of who is in the key positions in Iraq, it is clear what is going on. Civil war. The US cannot admit that for they would have failed in the attempt to democratize Iraq. I favour Pace and Abizaid's opinions over Rice. If the top US Military Generals are saying it's civil war, then it must be. Rice is not in charge of the Military's daily operations and gets reports from the Military. I don't count her opinion as valid. Pace and Abizaid have been saying they are making progresss, they have always said that up untill now. And I think that is pretty important to consider. Staunch supporters of the Iraq war are now saying it's getting to the point of no return. If those guys are scared of it turning into civil war, then I am inclined to think the same way. We all have seen the reports it is getting worse over there. And now the top Generals are saying it as well. Rice is not the Military and cannot speak for them. Unusual high amounts of sectarian violence = civil war. If this was Canada it would be classified as 'intense provincial squabbling' All this 'political correctness' and 'language' they are using to cover up the real situation disgusts me really.
-
The latest is General Pace and Abizaid telling us that civil war is going to happen. But none of you payed attention before when the country was invaded. We warned it would get to this kind of 'unusual amounts of sectarian violence' aka civil war. This was all over the MSM yesterday, even CNN.com had some clips.. now nowehere to be found. OH here it is , I had to do a search for an article that is a day old and no longer on CNNs main links page. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/08/03/ira...ring/index.html

Anythig you get on google maps/earth is not realtime or up to date. That could be an old map, but could still be valid in the information.
