  1. Ratio of the number of guns to the number of people is actually very small. The ratio is about the same as Canada. The US has twice as many guns per person. IOW - it is misleading to claim that there are 'a lot of guns' in Switzerland. It appears the Swiss choose not to own guns even though their laws are less restrictive. Different mentality when it comes to gun culture. This accounts for the legaly registered guns. I would say there are far more unregistered firearms in the US than in Switzerland. It is how a society approaches gun ownership. If one does not feel the need to get a gun, eventhough the resitrictions are more lax, don't you think that it would be a safer society when people just don't feel the need to carry/possess firearms? This is an interesting thing to consider. Canada has many firearms as well, and if you look at it per capita, I would say the US is still ahead of the game when it comes to gun related deaths and crime. If everyone in the room had a gun. And you are the only one thinking of letting go a few rounds, chances are that you would be put down after the first couple shots. If no one is armed, then no one can defend themselves. So if you are properly trained in using a gun, then this tragedy would not have been so great. If the criminal has this in the back of his head 'oh shit, everyone has a gun right?? .. hmmm better rethink this one' so like someone pointed out, they resort to more drastic measures. So getting rid of guns, or making them more accessable nets the same result in the end. Loose loose situation here it seems.
  2. Things are so simple to the leftist mind. So utterly painfully simple that it hurts to listen to. Yeah, it's just a bunch of big bad warmongers from the evil US starting another big bad war for {insert pet horrible capitalist greed object} and profit. And for the sheer fun of causing mayhem. Myata has a point however. The end of the Cold War gave the US a great chance to bolster their military. And that they did. The US did not use that chance to further peace around the planet by reducing their military, they saw it as a chance to greatly increase it. For we know that Russia is no longer the threat it once was, so there really is no need for a large military. No other power at that time and even to this day, can't really touch the might of the US military. In retrospect, the current build up of China's forces and Russia implementing new missle defences themselves is in response to the US's build up of their forces. Peaceful talks can now resume and cooperation can make the world a better place for all. Now that the US has built up (and some generals are saying they need to increase it even more) they are now stretched thin with all the current conflicts the US is currently engaged in. Russia is just taking care of it's own. Think of it similar to a Cuban Missle Crisis. Cuba was a host to a number of Soviet nuclear missles, which was just a skip across the ocean to mainland US. Now that this missle defence system is put in place and in strategic points around Europe, it makes sense that Russia will take precaustions and increase their defences. Simple fact is that Russia does not trust the US 100% or else they would be very close allies. I have not seen that happen yet. Economicly US and Russia have made ties, but overall, they are still worlds apart in ideology and society.
  3. Kind of getting off topic now aren't we? I don't see the harm or problem with linking or using photographs or video footage to prove a point in a post. This is the age of multimedia, and we get information in all shapes forms and sizes. So to not allow one to use photos or video should mean that no one should be able to link to a plain text article. If the video, photo can be worked into a thread and have it relate to the thread, basicly staying on topic (which many many threads have gone to crap because of off-topicness), then I do not see a problem with it. What happens when you watch the news? Or do you only read newspapers and text news sites? If they further the discussion of the thread topic then no problem here at all.
  4. http://www.obleek.com/iraq/ Neat site shows the location of troop deaths sice the war started, I think they stopped at the Surge. Be interesting once they get the rest updated. Should show how effective this surge really is.
  5. Alright Sharkman. How does Gere, kissing a woman in India have anything to do with Gay rights here in Canada?? I don't see the link. I would have done the same thing, Shilpa Shetty is one smokingly hot woman. Different country, different rules. It's like going to someone elses house and you thinking it's yours, and you make yourself at home and the people who own the house are pissed at how rude you are.
  6. You see, this is the problem with those who think they've solved all of their problems when they reject their parents faith and or church. They think they can answer the enigma of religion and God for ALL of mankind, all based on their singular experience. Like I said, get some time in kid. This I find interesting. My parents were the ones to not subscribe me and my sister into any kind of religion. We basicly were just taught right from wrong. Did not go to church never said we were Christians, or Catholics. So in a way in contributed to me and my sister being agnostic/athiests. Religion was needed in a time to have something more to beleive in. But you just need to beleive in yourself and no one else. I keep saying I look at religion as an outsider, for I really have no clue what it does for everyone, but I can get an idea of what it is. But never really knowing it. For the most part, I have no interest in knowing. Fearmongers who use Radical Islam as a weapon to frighten the masses are just as freakin guilty of wrecking the world. Crap, like there is not enough stress in one day for anyone. Got kids?? Pfff the stress on that alone is hard. Tough job? Bad Marriage? Court cases? Ect? No food to eat? These are all stresses many go through. So the thing about terrorism is really not on the high list of things to worry about. Keep laying those stresses on a society and EVERYONE snaps. THEY ARE GONNA KILL YOU. Give up some rights. Ect. Radical Islam has stolen nothing from you. Not one thing. You let them take it away from you. So who really is wrecking the world? Or more specificly, who really is wrecking YOUR world?
  7. Yeah but consider the source..(more nazis in North America than Germany...) Alright, I am gonna go out on a limb here. I will say the Nazi's are still in power. They just moved to the United States, formed a seceret government and took over behind the sceens. I know, a long stretch. Maybe neo nazi's, for the fact seems to be Islam they are after and not Judiasm
  8. So it really boils down to this. Where is this democracy we are talking about?? The way I really see it is that we are all slaves. Free Slaves, let's say. You can choose how you are a slave in life. If it really is true that both elections were hijacked, then you can say democracy in the United States does not exist.
  9. In the USA, the "people" do indeed vote for war through elected representatives and powers enumerated in the Constitution (see "consent of the governed"). It's not your "tax money" or "agenda" even if you convince like minded individuals to vote accordingly. You can have your chance, but only as a bill on Capital Hill subject to a gauntlet of other competing interests. Or you can have your day in court. GWB is more powerful than any dictator expressly because the USA is a constitutional republic and democracy. Don't like his agenda?...just wait until the next one comes along with a different agenda. Only one vote to a customer.....and then only if you are a US citizen. So when GWB was elected the first time, they knew they elected a War President? it was not untill 8 or 9 month into his presidency that the attacks on Sept 11 occured. Simple things like a timeline will show you are absolutely incorrect when you say they voted for a war president in 2000. Remember GWB was not that concerned with Osama or Al-Queda before Sept 11. And judging by numerous polls, Bush's approval rating right now is below 35%, and has been for almost a year now. So the people are obviously waking up and wondering really why the war is happening. Bush has clearly violated the United States Constitution with several of his executive orders. People vote for war? People vote for corruption? People vote for liars are crooks? And as we know and see from the 2004 election where Florida and Ohio were in huge scandals about votes missing, recounting votes and not including some votes. So your 'One vote to a customer' ... wait ... customer??? Is that how you see the average US Citizen? Just as a customer?? You mean to say, One person, One vote. But many had their votes taken away by purposeful maliciousness. Florida is a prime example. Hijcaking Catastrophe Expect an edit on this : Edit Le Goddam you Google Video and Youtube. I ws searching fo Hijacking Democracy, and got this instead. So Google and youtube (now one in the same) are taking these videos offline.
  10. And women in the western world were only given the right to vote only about 6 decades ago. There is still a mentality in many western cultures that the MAN is the MAN, and women are secondary. So if you think that Islam needs growing up, so does the rest of the world in order to help with the growing. It takes a long time for change in a society. Unless some outside force decides to say what is what. And well history shows us how that plays out. So, the moral equivalency meme is stooping to these depths? Western civilization is no different from a civilization which bags it's female chattel and stones them to death for being raped because generations ago women didn't have the vote in the west? Are you serious? If we are to encourage Muslims to take on peace instead of terrorism, we have to do so with respect. I will not be afraid of Muslims or their religion because terrorists claiming to represent their religion kill and maim people. I won't allow those terrorists prevent me from reaching out to Muslims. Not a chance. The functional point is that we are not talking about history, we are talking about the here and now. In the here and now, it is Islam that has to change, not the west. Unless of course you are prepared to discuss the virtues of wearing a bag with your wife, and suggesting that she not be raped lest she be stoned as well. Dead serious. If you are perfect, then stone away. If you are not, sit down, shut up and pay attention. Western Civilizations cannot even agree on something like abortion. Is it wrong? Right? Why? Ect. Are we in the West more enlightened than the East?? Are Christians more enlightened than Jews? Catholics? Muslims? Hell no. Christians burning witches in Salem. That kind of thing you know. History. Western civilization still has a corrupt really fucked up underbelly. But don't ever take that into account. Learn from History, or repeat it over and over and over and.... The point is none of our cultures have histories we can be proud of, Jewish, Christian, Islam, what-ever. All our cultures have their histories of violence, sexism, racism. None of us are perfect. I have not agreed on much with Rue, however this point she is 100% correct. The only way to confront this is to embrace the people who are affected by it. Help, but not force. Give them Advice and guideance, but do not tell them what needs to be done. Ask questions. Seek answers. Be not afraid of your fellow man/woman. Religion in itself and it's concept are beneficial to a society, but it should not dictate a society. No one religion is right/correct more than another. I will say again, Ignorance and Bigotry is wrecking the world. Get involved if you want to make a difference.
  11. [deleted because I never say nasty things about other people] It was a mumble about it being far better to suffer from cognitive dissonance (somebody's favorite phrase to misuse this week) than to suffer from large reverberating brass gongs in the head. But then I deleted it because it could be construed as an attack, even though it was merely meant to be a helpful clinical diagnosis. Sheesh :|
  12. And what Alec Baldwin says to his daughter is between him, his daughter, and the mother. That whole media distraction about that phone message/call is just not needed. It is a private matter. So your point here gets tossed out the window, in regards to 'supporting child abuse'. And I think overall it did not contribute to her being let go. BubberMiley Indeed.
  13. So the people in power owe nothing to the population it governs?? Does not sound like much of a democracy, now does it? Take my tax money but do not use it for what I would really like it to be used for. Is it the People's agenda? Administrations agenda? GWB is more powerfull than any dictator? Again, not sounding like a democracy here. The People never vote for war. Well two out of 3 ain't bad. GWB does not do so well on your 3rd point.
  14. Really? If that is your benchmark then nearly every prior administration should also have faced "removal". Fortunately, the US Constitution will always prevail over your opinion. That's how it is in a constitutional republic. Save willy nilly confidence votes and fallen governments for Canada. I do not have much confidence in my Canadian government either. Harper and Co, look more and more like the previous dimwits we had as Prime Minister. The last Prime Minister I have any amount of respect for is Pierre Trudeau. I used to respect Layton as the NDP leader, but now I see what he is about and cannot support him or that party anymore. Politicians are all the freakin same these days. And they use that to their advantage. You think you have a choice?? Sure pick Incompitent Leader A, or Incompitent Leader B. Being in that kind of position you would want to set an example for the people and BE that example for the people. GWB has shown us time and time again he is a bumbling fool/idiot/liar ect ect. Being a President/Prime Minister (or any 'democraticly' elected leader) has responsibilities, and many of them. One is to present to the people a strong, smart, intelligent, articulate leader. GWB posseses none of these fine qualities. Remember this election in 2008 has the potential of being the Billion Dollar Presidential Campaign. Money has influence, Money can buy you the position, but cannot buy you respect from the people. That has to be earned. Bush has thrown away everything for his war agenda. "I am a war president." GWB has said before. So expect war, and lots of it. Not to mention the war would be easier to execute if he was the Dictator. Clinton screwed up by lying about the Intern affair. It would have been best if he had not done it in the first place. So because of that, it shows to me that Clinton only seems to posess some of the qualities of a great leader. And only possessing some of the qualities means that they are always going to be a half assed leader.
  15. ScottSA None of your damned business. If he had answered the way you have here, I am pretty sure you would be all over him and making some comments about 'none of your damn business'. Is this the little game you want to play? I thought, if you had seen war/action, you would be a great source of information on how it really is on the battlefield. Then you could give us some real insight about what war is and what this particular war was about. You asked a question, so don't get all defensive when those same questions are asked of you. Or are you more upset at the fact that Woddy Guthrie has not responded to your question as of this time? I look backwards to your response. You would make a great Republican.
  16. If we really had a democracy, in Canada or the US, we would have been able to vote on the war on terror. We would have been able to vote as a population weather to go into Afghanistan/Iraq or not. The leaders of the country make those decisions for us. The reason they keep on doing it is for the fact they do not tell us everything of what they want to accomplish. I doubt we would have gone to war if it was left up to the people to decide on major isssues like that. The population is informed of the actions but never involved in the process to reach that ultimate decision. We would be able to vote for a new healthcare system or keep the old one. We would have major votes on major issues that matter and affect the whole country. But we are mostly kept in the dark about this war on terror and it's ultimate goals. We had no vote or say in this war on terror. WE HAD NO VOTE OR CHOICE ABOUT THIS WAR ON TERROR. So no, I do not beleive anyone here lives in a democracy. We have a representative dictatorship. Olbermann delivers again with http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/04/25/o...w-dare-you-sir/ http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/04/24/b...-surge-mandate/ Presidents should not make statements like Any leader who makes jokes about being a dictator needs to be removed. The man screws up time and time again. The whole Bush Administration is now in panic damage control mode now. Many in the Bush admin are now being investigates for pretty shady stuff.
  17. Ever been to war Woody? I bet not. Did your daddy get you out of it or did you just run away all by yourself? Nope have not been to a war. I did apply for air force, but did not qualify. So I have not seen combat. Just like most of you here. Including you there Sport. Your replies are ... can't exactly think of a word for this. Maybe someone can help me out on it. How in God's name do you possibly have the slightest idea what I've done or where I've been? Ever been to war Sport?
  18. Ever been to war Woody? I bet not. Did your daddy get you out of it or did you just run away all by yourself? Nope have not been to a war. I did apply for air force, but did not qualify. 19. http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2007/04/25/i...ualty-figs.html It is a civil war. US troops are just getting caught in the middle now. ScottSA You don't seem to recall the generals who told Bush that it is indeed a civil war. Bush replaced those generals. One of the dumbest things he has done. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...6080300277.html Not sure how relavent this is, or how much truth there is in it buuuut. http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,,2062426,00.html Sounds like Berlin Germany. Sounds like Jerusalem, Isreal. If the violence was that low (like McCain said then just a week later, 180 people dead in 4 seperate care bombs in Baghdad. I'd like to see videos of US troops freely walking the streets. Without their guns/trucks/ammo. I'd really like to see footage of all of Baghdad to show how peacefull it is. I'd like to see how those rebuilding projects are going. If the Iraqi government complains to the UN saying their numbers are not accurate, who is actually right here?? And please explain why? And then you can explain how anything release by the UN can be tagged as false statements. So the UN says no civil war? The Iraqi government is probably saying it is.
  20. I do not watch the show, but I agree this is the main reason she was fired. Networks don't cancel shows/people for high ratings. If the ratings were all they care about then, Rosie would not have been fired. She would have been promoted or congratulated. Because of her 9/11 statements she has been let go. I can't see any other reason why.
  21. It is really to bad for me. I was not alive when all this went down, so I cannot really say. But you have a great point. Troops will leave Afghanistan before Iraq. Remember folks, the Bush administration calls this the Long War, that may not end in our lifetime. Ahhhh shit. Now I cannot tell if Bush is really lying or not. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_War_(21st_century) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...6020202242.html
  22. According to Bush, even if you have a exit plan, that will embolden those terrorists. Can't be sending that kind of message to the people now can we? Americans got tired of seeing thousans of lives wasted by a war that was really a proxy war with Russia. I am invading yout home because you have a bomb there. But after I invade, occupy and terrorize the residents only to have the lies of the bomb refuted. So the whole justification behind my motives were lies. But be patient, for the real plan starts now. But don't worry Sharkman, it is for the long term good. And if you cannot see that having my occupying presence in your home as a good thing, well then you just are not paying attention. Or have no patience for my long term goals. And at this time your family starts fighting amongst each other. But you are no longer the head of the home and that is a good thing regardless of all my lies to actually get into your country in the first place. Your first question should be ' So what are my long term goals for your house?' I don't have ADD. I payed attention.
  23. And women in the western world were only given the right to vote only about 6 decades ago. There is still a mentality in many western cultures that the MAN is the MAN, and women are secondary. 24. It actually bothers me about the emails. Those things should be backed up onto another server in case this happens. But it is convenient for the emails to go missing. Rovegate Plamegate Billions of dollars missing from the war funding War on terror not going according to plan Many many more to list. I am curious of who did it. Who is going to be the scapegoat in all this. Deleting those emails was deliberate. Chances are only a select few have the authority to manage those specific email servers. So it should not be hard to find. I am going to guess here, but I would say that those emails had to be backed up somewhere to another offsite server or storage server. Anything really important gets backed up. MAYBE we should get the guys over at the NSA and go through AT$Ts 'secret room' servers and see what the email are about!!!! Screw the warrent, Bush does not seem to have a need for them. So neither do I. So Woody, you're in favor of pulling out and leaving the Iraqis to their own murderous devices? That's fine, but let's not hear any more sobbing about the plight of the poor Iraqis. Obviously you don't care. And then a third time right?? They never had an exit strategey. Never had one. Never. At least the Democrats are trying to table a withdrawl option. Most people now know this is the LONG WAR and will not end in our lifetime. You can bet your life on that. You can bet every soldier's life in Iraq on it.
  25. FOOD 2.6 MOBILITY 0.1 SHELTER 4.1 GOODS/SERVICES 3.2 TOTAL FOOTPRINT 10 There are a few loaded questions in there. I had no option on some gas things related to cars, there was a lowest number but not a zero. I don't own a car and take public transportation most of the places I go (un less I get a ride from someome) So I feel my stats should be lower.
