  1. good post, can always count on the onion to mock anything. I have not read that sight much recently. what would be the title of the third movie in the installment, cause you know it has to be a troliogy.
  2. I was not even aware the suge happened. From what I read on CNN, CBS, FOX and other news 'sources', the Bush Administration was having trouble getting the money and the motion support for a troop surge. I know the Dems had a non binding opposition (non binding?? why the fuck even say anything at all if you are not going to back it up?) to the troop surge. It could have happened, or maybe I am too blind to see it, but for some reason, I am doubting this troop surge even happened.
  3. I'd rather listen to cats being tortured than Celine Dion. I don't see how that improves Hip-Hop, however. While some portion of hip-hop might contain real social commentary, a lot of it just promotes shameless materialism, violence, and encourages a demeaning view of women. -k What is on the air and what you call 'hip-hop' is just actually basic thug west coast rap. There is a great deal of hip-hop that actually promotes unity, peace and it would tell a story. That is hip-hop, what is on the air is not hip-hop. Jay-z, 50 Cent ect ect.... NOT hip-hop. Radio never plays the quality stuff anyways, for it has to appeal to the masses, so you get generic rap crap.
  4. Obsidian, my Ontario drivers lisence has all that now except the RDIF tag. And it should stay that way. -the full legal name check! -DOB check! -gender check! -drivers license or identification number check! -digital photograph of the person check! -person principle adress check! -their signature check! -security features check! -common machine-readable technology (could be RFID) negatvie here on that one., well there is a magnetic strip on the card. The only difference is the RDIF tag, the magnetic strip is on my license and needs to be physicaly swiped or the number put into a program to actually find my information. They will not need to ask for your drivers license anymore, they just grap the info off the RDIF tag. Now they say the range of the tag is very limited and yoiu need to be only couple inches away from the card to read that information. Who knows maybe the range on these tags can get wider. The cop can take all your info from your license plate on the car and then scan the RDIF tag while still in the cruiser. Sorry, there was a computer glitch and you now have been charged with shoplifitng and the funds are now taken out of your account. But I am sure if we take your fingerprint/iris scan/dns sample, we can verify you are you and have all charges dropped. Back to square one.
  5. Well this is all you hear about on the news is terrorism/terrorist/freedoms/ ect. More people get killing in a year in car crashes than by terrorist attacks. So on the scale of things, terrorism is not a major cause of suffering around the planet. The media always potrays 'imminent danger' and so do the politicians. They WANT you to be scared, they WANT you to not be productive. Stop listening to this and you will lead a normal life and a good chance you will never personaly witness a terrorist attack. They want you to always look over your shoulder, Those in power want to control you by fear. And it is working on you. Your basic freedoms are being threatened from your own government, not terrorists. The terrorists did not make the laws that govern your freedom. Rue Chinese are supporting terrorists in Iraq? Can you explain how? I doubt the weapons are comming from Iran, good chance they are old Russian bombs or even US bombs that were sold to Iraq and Iran back in the 80's. Remember the US has had arms deals with BOTH countries. So it is hypocritical to say that Iran is making the bombs for terrotists in Iraq. EDIT. What I meant to say was that, the media has said the bombs were of an Iranian design. I recall the way the fins were described was a key in identifying these as Iranian. Also the reports of IEDs from Iran. Any ways I have posted the links in this thread to the pics of the bombs, but it may have been taken down by now.
  6. Biological life has been around for millions of years. It has a personal sacred air about it. For now it is just corn and wheat and some plant life that they have patented (corporations) even some bacteria has been patented by companies. Slippery slope, next up we are going to modify the human genes to create a new human and have it patented. If you are geneticly created then you become the property of a company. No rights. Kind of an extreme example, but the human race has always managed to take things to the extremem eventhought the majority of the people out there are against this kind of thing. In my view, you cannot, should not patent any kind of life form. The US coropations are allowed to hold patents on life , so they can claim that corn as their own, and the like. Now as we have seen with farmers and the Monsantos corn then having the surrounding farmers sued for wind blew some of this geneticly modified corn from one farm to the next. How can you control that? Also it is a concern of health and balance of the ecosystems of the planet. I was watching Jon Stewart last night with the Daily Show and he mentioned how a company is trying to develope a mosquito that is resistant to malaria , they want to release this into the wild and have it take over and replace the other malaria carrying mosquitos. Who knows what this will do in the wild. http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/03/19...o.ap/index.html So when you give corporations patents and copywites on biological life, you can expect thigns to get out of hand. And since the ecosystems on earth are balanced (well untill humans really started to come along) and everything we introduce to this ecosystem to replace certain parts of it, this delicate machine is going to break and that will affect all of us, not just a few who had not gotten profits from a book that was pirated. My personal morals goes against allowing patents for biolilfe. And this by no way stops these companies from producing geneticly modified plants/animals. A pirated book/cd/movie/software does not upset this balance of natural ... NATRUAL nature. I agree that the judicial system has been flawed, and it has been like that for many decades. If you have money you can get spectacular defense. This is a problem with lawyers wanting to much in pay for their services. Charles Anthony Let me resphrase that a bit. I think I screwed myself on that line!! Wording was horrible. And I am struggling to reword it to make my point ... so I will think about it and try later. But again, I may have screwed myself on that point.
  7. Blueblood Look dude, I sympathize withn you and other farmers getting the shaft on the corn thing. I have said in this thread that US laws do not apply here in Canada. But there are some International agreements between countries in regards to copywritten material. Also it has been stated that file sharing in Canada is legal. So copyrite laws are essentialy thrown out the window. But it seems I cannot claim 'The Eagles Greatest Hits CD' as something I have done myself. If you cannot afford a lawyer, for whatever reason, then one will be provided for you (aka tax payer funded defense) same thing right?? Maybe it is also the government looking out for the person who created said product. The Government subsidizes a lot of stuff. Should they stop all subsidizing across the board then to make it an even playing feild? If you hesitate at all to answer this question, then it is a resounding NO. Stop subsidizing health care, child care, ect. And if you can produce a book that is original without lifting a finger I will grant you the same. I know farming takes a lot of work. I have had relatives out in Saskatchewan that were farmers. I respect the amount of work it takes. I was out in the tractor riding along while the fields were being seeded. LOTS of work. Machines make it easier, but still a lot of work needed to be done. You did not make the corn. You did not develope the new strain of corn. You had no say in how it was created. You had no involvement in the creating of the corn. You are an END USER of the corn. You agreed to use Monsantos corn (if that is the case) then you have to deal with whatever terms are on the contract when you signed for it. It must have been explicit and percise. Did you read through all the fine print?? I am not saying that I agree with the copywrite/patent of biological life, I am 100% opposed to fucking with nature and reselling it for a profit, like Monsantos. Movies/books/music is still much different in my view. If you want to use my truck to do stuff, you must ask. If you use it for things without me knowing then it is straight out theft. If we made some verbal agreement, then that is different, you may be using the truck to haul off something for a profit. But it is a verbal contract between friends lets say. Now, you must read my posts again. If the person SELLS the book/IP/copywrite to someone else, then that is stipulated and a contract is drawn up and all parties have agreed to said terms. If I only license the book for publishing distrobution, then I still own the book/IP/copywrite. HUGE difference between then two. That is what you must understant. I used to be a DJ, and ran a record pool for a couple years in Sudbury Ont. We got a lot of promo material from record companies. They have said and we agreed to the terms that if they wanted to recall all the music, then they have that right. And since it was all promo music, (not released officialy yet) I could not even sell it or I have broken the agreement. I was also a member of the Canadian Disk Jockey Assosiation. I payed dues in order to use the music I had for public use and to make a profit on the gigs I did. So I paid a fee so I can use the music in my possesion to use as a DJ. Any DJ who does not belong to the CDJA or something of the like then they are breaking the law. Simple as that. Does that mean it is right? No, but at the same time, you did sign a contract and agreed to said terms in order to use the music. Ok then I agree the laws should change, however, they should not be abolished altogheter.
  8. Thats one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. One of the best things I have read actually. Government waste is rampant, and the savings of making the coins seem to be outwieghed by the corruption that goes on in government. No progress is made here.
  9. Explain more please?? I wrote a book. I want to make money off it. I have IP and have now copywritten the book. So does that mean anyone can reproduce the book at their will without express consent of myself or a party I choose to have involved in all this? So it is up to me to defend the copywrite? I think I already have by dealing with copywrite, talking to a lawyer about the copywrite (most of the time you do not need a lawyer to copywrite anything). Now with all the legal stuff out of the way, it is stated I own the IP and copywrite of this book. I now legaly license it out to companies or people that will print my book, and there we have an agreement. They produce and make and distribute the book, I get a cut from the profits for they did most of the work, and all that was stipulated in the contract all parties involved signed into. When being an end user for a book or a CD or a movie, it is only license to you for there was no formal agreement between the maker and the end buyer/user. Take a look at software for computers. If you accept the terms of agreement (how many of you have actually read it, haven't?? who's fault is that then???) then you accept how the software interacts with your computer.... oh but there was spyware involved? AHH read the EULA? (End user licence agreement) it says all that right there and then, again no one really reads it. So you have no beef at all here. So you cannot make copies of that software you bought, and you cannot sell it or make copies to even give out. Books, CDs software, movies have IP and copywrites for a reason. Someone worked hard on this with the intention of making money. Works the same in any field, you want to make money, or that great novel or movie you want to write will never see the light of day. There is something called investment in these said items as well. As a publisher, I agree to produce and distribute your book under terms we both agree. Again no such deal was made with an end user, so the end user has no legal standing to argue that he can make money off someone elses work. As the writer of the book, I did not agree to such terms, and the disclaimer in the book says so. As the end user of a book/cd/movie, you have no rights other than personal use for that product. Selling and/or making copies for others cannot be considered personal use and violates the general use liscence of the book. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED , very important to remembet. Again I will say the Monsantos corn is a different situation, but the laws in the United States allows corporations to hold patents on biolife. That was introduced into US Law some years ago. This set a bad precident for future patent/copywrite infrigements. Life should not be patented, even if you manage to create something new out of it. So that is the difference I see.
  10. You are a hypocrite for saying others are calling you names. I told you I'd be back in a few pages to again tell you to chance your tactics. Come on PN. Don't be a hypocrite.
  11. Blueblood. Your beef is something different. Monsantos had managed to create a new strain of corn. The US government allowed corporations to hold patents on boligical life. They created a certain strain with those certain properties and then sell it to you for use, and you agree to those terms of use when purchasing the corn. Morraly I have a problem with patenting any life form. I am aware that some farmers got the shaft in Canada for the seeds were blown into another farmers property from another using only Monsantos corn seeds. It is that farmer who did not protect his neighbours. But wind blew the seeds, so who is responsible really? Movies/music/literature is different. If I used a photocopier to make copies of books and give/sell them to people, am I in violation of the copyright? Yes indeed I am. For that disclaimer is on the inside of a book. You have to open the cover to actually get at it. So to those who say that it was not printed clearly on the front or back of the DVD case are making a useless point. I had read so many bad analogies/explanations here in this thread it is hilarious. No they had an agreement/contract with the distributor to produce and distribute the product. Both made agreements that makes both parties happy. And that is a difference, I sold the product to you, without contract and without restrictions. OR I licensed the product to you so we can work together and make some money, I have the brains, you have the braun, let's sign a contract and make lots of money. Contracts are really what it comes down to here. All music is lent to you. Says so right on the CD, or inside where the credits are. And like every contract one must read the fine print. If you fail to read the fine print, then that is not my problem now is it. Check this out, I have here a copy of Daft Punk's Homeword CD. On the back it says .. "All rights reserved. Unauthorized reproduction, copying and rental of this recording is prohibited by law." So that allows me to make copies and sell it to others? Nope. I made this movie, so I am going to claim all rights to it. I did not make corn, or wheat, nature did, I don't see here getting any kickbacks. Copywrites should exists for some time, like the life of the creator. No problem with that. Patents should be kept for 15 to 20 years. Also credit should be given to the creator of said product. Nature should not be patented/copywritten at all. Even if you modify it like Monsantos has.
  12. Correct. however the trees and plantlife out there, and even the oceans purify the air. More deforestation and more pollution can have an impact on our environment. Urban sprawl takes up valueble natural land to build us nice cozy polluting houses. (pollution in forms of garbage, other environmental hazards from the car in yourn driveway ect) Overall I don't buy into the global warming thing. But I will say pollution is making us sick and that is what really needs to be adressed here. So what they really mean to say is that they need to control pollution (akak your governmental friendly term 'greenhouse gases' which sounds soo much nicer).
  13. Then it seem the only ones allowed to to business in Cuba is the United States Military. Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Pack it up and move it to the US mainland.
  14. Kimmy Sure I give the bouncer my photo ID, aka my drivers license. He takes it, looks at it, verifies it's legit, and lets me in. He does not take down an inventory of what/who is inside. But he does count me in for regulating the crowd for capacity and other saftey concerns. Why do they need my fingerprint? To me only police would be the ones to ask for a fingerprint/scan. Or you may need it for high security government buildings, but for a local pub? Over the top. I used to work in clubs and let me tell you last event I went to )as a patron) getting a fingerprint off me would not have done much good, for I caught 2 bouncers ASLEEP at their posts. But true it can reduce crime. But it will not stop it. but you can find out who is responsible. Now for suveilance cameras in a city. Most of them are put in places where you would not notice, They are all semi hidden and semi disguised. So you don't really know if you are being watched or not. So yes it is a public place and you still have some right to privacy in a public place. This to me is unwanted and unwarranted surveilance, I am being exposed to without prior consent. I live in Ottawa, and the transit system has plenty of cameras. Even on some buses. And in the past months I have seen more put in. I am a daily rider of the transit system and these things I do notice. People are attacked at the stations every once in a while here. Many times no one is caught and prosecuted. So by that, even with all this extra suveilance, the crime was caught on camera, and yet no one can be identified. Criminals are smarter than that most of the time. The people who do get caught are just petty thieves with no though process at all. Interesting you say Kimmy when credit card fraud is at it's highest it has ever been. Eventhough the banks/financial comanies and even you have taken more steps to feel 'secure' it is more rampant today than ever. How does this make sense? Mistaken identity is a problem too. If machines can make mistakes (and they do for humans have programmed them) then a human can make larger errors. However this detention for a moment now just made you miss your flight and ruined your whole vacation. More technology that is introduced the more oppourtunities there are for this kind of criminal activity. I very much love and enjoy my privacy. Cameras take that away from me. I feel like I am being scrutinized at every turn.
  15. The more technology we use to combat crime and to keep our identities ours, the more technology the criminals have access to. It has always been the case where a new technology will come out to fight crime and only a short time later, the criminals have found a way around it. They are always two steps ahead. Crime will continue to grow regardless of if you install more security cameras and RDIF tags in people. It will not prevent people from doing stupid things. And also being in a public place, you still have a right to privacy. Hell even that one report in Britian about a lady getting beat on by some cops on a security camera. A crime was committed here and the cameras proved ineffective of stopping it. The security measures won't be able to stop crime, it will only be able to record it, then prove that a crime happened. It just makes it easier for criminals to be prosecuted, but again it will NOT stop crime. Cellphones have GPS tracking. Cellphone calls can be tricangulated and found. If you have your cellophone on with you, then you have the potential to be tracked. RDIF tags does not give you this option. RDIF may help with identity theft, but since the tag can be reprogrammed using a specific scanning computer, it would not be hard to just 'download' a new identity in the RDIF chip. No implants for me please. There is no way in hell I am submitting to a fingerprint scan before I enter a nightclub. I go to nightclubs to have a good time, let loose. Already with a thumbscan I am being 'booked' by the nightclub bouncers, taking inventory of what is inside. Polynewbie is not far off on this here. With more technology we have more crime and more variations of crime. And it only gets worse and worse, crime does not go away, it moves to different areas for a while then comes back. No RDIF chip in my skin thanks. EDIT (addition) So if we are concerned about priacy, why are many companies always having security breaches and identities are stolen. Kimmy, facial recognition technology is interesting from a geek POV, however, there can still be problems with it. Computer may have a glitch or something messed in the programming, so that person 'Kimmy from A' that entered the airport is actually 'Fred from H'. I work plenty with computers. One thing I can say about databases is that they are never up to date enough. And many many things go wrong with computers. Trust me after 4 years of help desk working for Time Warner, anything can be tampered with. I had never done anything criminal auff at the call center, but I have seen malicious stuff go on by employees to management or even the customers we served as well. The one guy was caught and fired right away. Get to know the technology/internet/computers and you will find out how lacking it really is in the security. 1's and 0's can be easily be manipulated.
  16. I have noticed this kind of thing often in the news. Report says A today, tomorow it will be corrected with , well actualy the report should be B. It happens a lot. It's not hard to see. So officials should say nothing untill they investigate more. The news is tricksy sometimes. So pay attention. Plenty of inconsistencies even between news organizatiions that rely on others like AP for their information.
  17. Kimmy Actually you can ask for a history from your bank of every transaction you have made for the past few years. When I log into my banking info online I can view 1 year back of all my transactions I have made with online payments and debit purchases. Ok some money is unaccounted for, for I took out cash for things. HOWEVER there is still a record of me taking out money at an ATM. And again, I must point out that it is a government/military we are talking about. Accountable to the people. So I demand more diligent work when it comes to tracking how a government spends the people's money. So don't tell me they have overlooked something. The article about Rumsfeld and the missing 2.3 trillion is suspicious... But you handle your own finances and bookeeping correct? I know I do. And Polynewbie is correct, ever since ATMs have been in place, transactions have been recorded and stored somewhere. Hell even when we were all on a paper system we still were able to track all the money. Either someone is hiding something, or there is gross imcompetence in the government. ACCOUNTABILITY, and no one really is responsible for this mismanagement of the people's tax money. Imagine what kind of healthcare system 2.3 trillion could buy. In a way I also have to trust the bank to provide me with a system that can allow me to easily track and record my finances. The options are there, go look for them. Of course, I'd be suspicious. A gas station does not have 1 million in cash, but some money in assets (like fuel, land, ect) so yeah, kind of a bad analogy. I will use your argument, that 2.3 trillion is unaccounted for. Was the theaft internal or external??
  18. What? Are you saying that Osama Bin Laden was not responsible for 9/11 because one of his lieutenants planned the details of the operation? As Al Qaeda leader, Bin Laden is certainly responsible. That's not to say that he did the planning of the mission. It is similar to saying, for example, that George W Bush is responsible for the invasion of Iraq, even though the planning and details were left to his staff. ap Sure fair enough. So why has the US been able to capture or kill many high level Al-Queada operatives, like Zarchawi in Iraq, and KSM a few years ago, but no matter they cannot nail Osama. WHY HAVE THEY NOT FOUND OSAMA ???? If the US and Canadian argiculture can trace the source and find ONE SINGLE INFECTED COW AMONG MILLIONS, but cannot find one man. It was an Al Queda operation from what they say, and the news media reported that Osama?AQ had something to do with it for it had tell tail signs of being Al Queada. But what are these tell tale signs, I mean right after the crashes it was OSAMA OSAMA OSAMA. How can there be telltae signs of AQ being behind this, when they had not attempted anything like this on this kind of scale. Also if it was true terrorism, why not fly planes into malls, apartment buildings. Attacking civilian centers. WTC was as much a military asset as it was civilian. Why blow up embasies? Blow up the houses where those people live that work in embassies. So why have we not found the leader yet? Would that not be 100% top priority. NO. The Coalotion of the 'Willing' invaded and occupied Iraq which before had NO TIES to AQ or Bin Laden. You can say AQ may have been in Iraq before the war, but they were not working with Hussein. Remember Hussein did not like AQ (remember the difference between Sunni, Shiite, ect??? remember this for it is important) For me, I have somehow woke up in the past 3 years. I felt like I have been asleep most of my life. Now my mind is seeing things I never noticed before. I have become more skeptical of many things. Sure you can say I am crazy, but I guaruntee you I am not 'Polynewbie'. Get to know me and you wont think I am crazy, and you will not think that the 9/11 inside job is crazy as well. Challenge to all of you. Stop watching TV for a couple weeks, I mean altogether stop. Be critical. I know Polynewbie sounds crazy to you, and he sounds a little crazy to me. Zealous in a way, passionate you may say. But he is quite insulting to many posters here, and I'd like for him to stop insulting others, and the others stop insulting him as well. It does no good for any of you. I will be back in a few more pages to tell Polynewbie again that he must change his approach in order to get the likes of you readers on board. To me, 9/11 was more important than anyone really realizes, and what it means for 'freedom'.
  19. http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/14/news/compa...dex.htm?cnn=yes This goes back to the 80s. Challenge for all you, and me. Any more proof like this of US, or for that matter any major corporation getting involved in this kind of stuff. Are bananas that much of a National Interest? OK I called out the US on this one.... well Chiquitita is an American. (remember, corporations are people too). In this thread we talk about coporations connected to terrorism. What happened? Who was fined/fired/jailed Company go under? Ect ect ect
  20. All this talk about Osama bin Laden ..... interesting. http://www.foxnews.com/photoessay/0,4644,1527,00.html http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,258817,00.html Alright, I am a tad confused. KSM admited to the 9/11 plots from A-Z and Fox had reported that the CIA operates seceret prisons. Ok and what is this ?? OH NOES, the US does not torture now does it? http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/14/guantanam...mmed/index.html Was that exactly what he said? Or some looked over editing was needed? OK and CNN talks about secret prisons as well. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/14/...in2571406.shtml And why the fuck is everyone relying on info from AP ? Both the CBS and FOX stories are the same, identical. CNN at leasts tries to reword it paraphrase it. He also admited to the 1993 WTC truck bomb... Bin Laden who?? But ignore all this again, Bin Laden was responsible for it all. Anyone else see a problem with this? Honestly.
  21. Well it seems that Libby cannot get pardoned by Bush. http://www.usdoj.gov/pardon/petitions.htm So he has to wait at least 5 years after the conviction. List of Presidential pardons http://www.usdoj.gov/pardon/recipients.htm It seems from what I have read is that the current President has granted the fewest pardons of any previous president.
  22. Bill was not impeached for having an affair with an intern. He was impeached for lying and perjury ABOUT the affair. He had an affair, big deal. If Bill had said, yes I had an affair with the woman, then things might have been different. But it the lying that got him impeached. If you want to hound on someone , maybe try Julliani for having 3 marriages. This is all stupid. Yeah and Bush was 'electable' and 'honourable' please..... Every president has had issues, FFS they are human after all. So if the marriage does not affect the job performance, then big deal. Affairs and things regarding spouses should not be publicized I think. It is their personal lives that are now on public display for all to see. And we eat all of it up. How many of you hear have had an affair on your spouse? Or even a girlfriend or boyfriend. Most of you have done one or the other. I have never been married, but I have cheated on a couple girlfriends. This story should die. The Clintion sex affair should have never hit the air. There could have been mentiones about it, but the public does not need to know about the sex life of a President.
  23. Poor Sharkman Again at least I am trying. And you Cartman'd it up just as I though you would. I would kindly ask you at this point to not contibute anymore (considering what you have already 'contributed') to this thread. I may not be representing things accurately for I am not 100% sure. But you are not even doing any representing at all. I doubt you cared in the first place......
  24. All those idiots should be extradited to Canada for the criminal charge of being a freakin idiot. Why does a Canadian have to submit to US laws when I am not even in the US. Like hell the US would do vice versa, allow Canada to impose it's rules on a US citizen IN the United States. Hollywood can suck my canuckian ass. Most of the good flicks these days are made by independants. I am sure some of them are angry they may not get all the revenue from the movie, with piracy relevant here. I am NOT an American (US). Does not the US need extradition of a Canadian to the US to stand trial? That's if Canada allows that to happen.
  25. Why not just pardon themselves? Pardon's are common all the time with Presidents. It'll happen again here, no doubt, like it did with every other one before. Well time to start paying attention to WHO gets Pardoned. Why they were Pardoned, and what were the reasons for the person needing a pardon. Yes it happens all the time and sometimes for good reason. I do not see a valid reason why Libby would/should Pardoned. Who knows, maybe other crooks and liars have been pardoned.
