  1. Ahh you are indeed a defeatist, or a Bush apologist. No they are not new developements. I know and understand and realize this has been going on for decades (and yes throw Canada in here as well, for I know you will gladly point that out) I would like to change the attitudes of the common folk. You can do something about it, only if you want to. But with all the dissinformation/propaganda, most do not have an idea or a clear picture of what is really happening. I am sick of it myself. But it is not hard to figure out that the lies started right off the bat.
  2. Well, you and I both know that. But the way it was sold to dupe the rest of the idiots shows that there was no real threat from Iraq. And, yes you are correct, I am not sure if I believe this new report. Since everything else seems to be utterly false. That is part of the game plan, baffle with bullshit and hope no one calls you out on it. Snake oil salesmen mentality. Is it the norm now to play the defeatist and just take everything the way it is? Or would you like to change things?
  3. You don't say..... http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/13/alqaeda.saddam/index.html But many will still say that there was a link. Just another lie that got the US into a unneeded war. http://movies.crooksandliars.com/JDF-Saddam-Report.pdf And they still found no link.
  4. Much of science starts out as a notion or a kind of belief. They are refered to as 'theories'. Through scientific processes and elimination of some of the notions, you get a better picture. Many of these scientitsts have had their own beliefs changed due to the science not being able to support the theories. God has been in our lives for eons. Science is still a relativley new thing. And as our science and technology improves we are able to understand more of the universe. String theory was unheard of 100 years ago. But science is about unifying some theories. They tried to figure out how gravity works for large planetary masses and interactions between them, but those rules are thrown out the door when dealing with things on the atomic level. So there seemed to be two seperate rules for (in many ways) similar interactions between masses. Just because it is not shown all the time on TV does not mean there is no work being done on it. Many theories in science die because there is no proof to back them up. So they are abandoned. If we stopped science and just all believed in a god, then we would still be back in the stone ages. Thankfully for some guys that thought outside the box, led way to all the wonderful science and technology we have. http://www.tenthdimension.com/flash2.php http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/ And maybe .. it is possible and this I will admit, science may just end up proving the existence of a god.
  5. Well because the article was regarding the water in the US, then we talked about Canada, and you even mention Mexico, so it makes sense we are talking about North America. Also, just to point this out, North America is where most of the posters on this forum live. So wow, no kidding we are talking about North America. We can talk about what city gets water from where till all of you are blue in the face, but the point is that it is happening out there and most of you seem to think it is not a bg deal. I must say that forums are what you make of it. And it seems like many here are very insincere when it comes to discussing anything on this forum. So I ask, wtf is wrong with staying on topic, leaving the insults at the door? Half this thread can be deleted of the fluff content, and many any of you have proven why we cannot have nice things. So how about we discuss the water situation in Mexico. The thing is, in North America, well really the US and Canada, we have higher governmental guidelines for supplying clean drinking water to a major city. Mexico does not seem to hold the same standards. And that is a problem for them that is pretty overt. You are warned about drinking the water when in Mexico. So that tells me right there, they have a bigger water polution problem than the US or Canada. The more junk we throw into our water the more we put another nail in our collective human race coffin. Even if the junk flows through our body before it hits the treatment facility. Wilber, you bring up a good point. The UK and the rest of Europe could be in the same situation. This cannot be just a local issue to North America, I bet this problem is rampant worldwide. It just seems now people are paying more attention to it. So along with medication, we have all sorts of other chemicals (household cleaners) and chemical sprays that are used on crops seep into the water supply. There seems to be much out there to be aware of when it comes to water contamination.
  6. And you know most bars/clubs/restaurants have enclosed areas for smokers. So not sure what you are getting at here. I bet that those homeless people cannot smoke inside the shelter. Eyeball, comparing drinking and driving to smoking a cigg and driving? Also comparing a work environment to a private environment? And yes, it would be interesting to see how the debates on prohobition went down during that time. Drinking and driving is just a dumb thing to do. You can argue that smoking will interfere with ones driving abilities, that I can get behind. Just like banning talking on the cell phone while driving, doing your makeup while driving. Most people can only do one thing at a time. A great deal of us are horrible at multitasking while driving. I am guessing you are a captain of a vessel? Fishing? Tours? Ferry? What kind of smoking rules apply to your work place?
  7. Do anything longterm then quitting cold turkey will have affects on you. Your body becomes used/addicted to the levels of the drug/substance that you are using. It is not only a physical withdrawl but a psychological withdrawl as well. Drug addiction is real, denying it is naieve. We can look at alcohol fetal sysndrome, where the mother drinks so much durring the pregnancy that the newborne is already in bad health because of it. Smoking might have been the better choice here... maybe. Drea, what was the name of the documentary you watched? I would love to try heroine for the high, knowing the stories out there of how great it is, but I see the after affects and well... won't do it. Obsesive/compulsive of addictive personalities will have more trouble with drug addictions than the rest of us. So much for smoking in a car with kids present.
  8. http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/03/11/pharm...h.ap/index.html Studying the reservoir that provides drinking water to the LA residents. Idiots come in all shapes an sizes, and some even post on this forum. The point of this thread was to point out that contamination in our water affects everything in our lives. EVERYTHING. We water our crops with this water, we drink this water, we bathe in this water, we feed our pets this water, everything living on this planet needs water to survive. And a good deal need clean drinking water. So, not only does this affect our drinking water, it affects what we eat. If you use contaminated water to help the crops grow, you are putting those chemicals back into our food. Since the stuff cannot be treated (yet) it is going to accumulate in our water supply. Everything we consume eventually goes back into the water supply and food chain. This has been happening for thousands of years, it is no different today, and is actually more relevant since our population is booming and we are taking over natural forests and habitats for our own concrete jungles. Try this, ash your cigarette in your glass of water... just a bit, just once .... do you toss out the water or drink the rest of it. If that turns you off, then what you don't know what is in your water should turn you off more.
  9. There is no difference to me at all if the claim is official or unofficial. You can see multiculturalism as soon as you walk out your door. JB Globe, I like your interpretation of it. They are already integrated and getting more integrated all the time. It's like moving into a new neighbourhood, get to know your neighbours. They might be different, but it would be boring as watching paint dry if we were all the same.
  10. You need to look into what water treatment/recycling is all about. As M Dancer said, Toronto gets it's water from a very polluted Lake Ontario... all that water,,,, hell even new fresh clean water is treated before you pull it from the taps.
  11. Little does anyone here realize that Canada is a multicultural country, and has been since it's birth. Multiculturism is part of Canadian Culture. End of thread.
  12. Dr Greenthumb. You need to reread my reply, and maybe my other replies. Or maybe put the joint down now and then, as I often do. I am a pot smoker, but to say that dealing drugs is a victimless crime is naieve as well as dangerous. I do agree that many laws should be revisisted including the 'controled substances' (haha if they were controled you would not be able to get at them) ..... Not to worry I am a strong advocate of legalizing all drugs. Only smart people will be able to control their drug consumption as so it does not interfere with their responsibilities in their daily lives. The others will kill themselves off. Which is fine by me. Eyeball Stupid laws... like banning someone smoking a cigg in their own car with kids present. You cannot claim high ground on this and be hypocritical at the same time by choosing to ignore other stupid laws. Remember you are the one saying that we should follow the laws no matter what they are cause government knows best, the nanny state knows best... right? Well at least this is the impression I have gotten out of you while participating in this thread. Toe that line bro.
  13. Canadian bravado has nothing to do with the US water contamination situation. Only an idiot would believe that there are unending quantities of clean drinking water. Walkerton was simple incompetence, what you have here in the US is major complex incompetence.
  14. From your article in the first paragraph. So an independant scientist towing the concensus line on global warming?
  15. If you have never dissagreed with a law or actions of government, then I would call you a liar. So this is a hypocritical stance to take. We want lawmakers to make laws that make sense, and make laws regarding things that people actually care about. This no smoking in cars with kids present is a freakin waste of government's time, taxpayers money, and wastes valuble policing resources by going after petty crimes. Hell, I cannot even consider it a crime. How about combating those larger problems, like ohh,, murderers, rapists, defrauders, drug dealers. Stop micromanaging everything one does in life. Freedom?
  16. Well not yet....... and another attack will come. And when it does, you will change your tune. I have a rock that will protect you from bears as well. I do not support waterboarding. If this is considered legal, then screw it, open up all the avenues for torture. Rip out fingernails, hang a person by the balls for an hour. Cut off a finger every hour untill the person speaks. Rape should be included as well. Hell why not take notes on Abu-Ghraib and call that the normal procedures. Desperate measures like torture give desperate results. Under torture people will tell you anything you want to hear, just to stop the torture. What we all should do here is actually experience waterboarding. For I'd say 30 mins to an hour. Only then will any of you really decide if it is a feasible method of interrogation. Any of you willing to try it? Be careful of how you answer!
  17. http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/03/10/pharm...1.ap/index.html After reading some of the report, it seems to me that we as a population are taking too many prescription drugs. Since some of it is not absorbed or used by the body, it passes through us into the wastewater which cannot be easily treated for these types of contamination. This could be more widespread considering the scope of this new report. It seems we are still unclear on how flouride affects the human body long term, and that is widely present in our water supply. There may not be an imediate risk, but long term as the amounts of untreatable chemicals accumulate in our water supply, it will be more overt about the health affects. So eventhough we treat waste water as much as we can, there is no way to take out the chemicals. So this goes back into our water supply. Reactions to water won't be a problem until it is too late when the process or treatment is irreverable. There was an ECOLI scare in a southern Ontario town called Walkerton. Officials knew the water was contaminated but did not release any information. http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/walkerton/ Mind you this is a different case, but it still shows that officials know about the problems before the public does. We are what we eat/drink? So any ideas on how to solve this? It is not like we just cannot quit meds cold turkey. But if we continue, we ramp up the risk of future problems with our drinking water. Clean fresh water is not just essential for human life/health, it is essential for all life on this planet. Water is just something we should not be screwing with. Or we need to find better ways of treating waste water. Or we need to kick the prescription drugs habit. Many people have allergic reactions to many prescription drugs out there. If that accumulates in the water supply enough, you will get many people sick from just drinking ordinary tap water, if the answer is more pharmacuticle medication, then we are accelerating the problems. Bottled water is not a solution, although I know that will get thrown around here. Discuss??
  18. Methinks there was more to this than just pot/drugs. If he is a drug pusher and many people knew this, then you have a different scenario, and in this case, calling the police would be a good idea. But I suspect a crappy marriage and other social factors had a play in this. Also the guy could have been not right in the head way before this. Pot does not make you kill people. Cocaine, heroine, meth .. I guess so (never tried those drugs so I am not sure) it also depends on the persons mentality. Your scenario indicates more beneath the surface than what you have stated. Also .. 3 pack a day????? And he is still alive?? Kimmy Being stupid and unsafe is dfferent from long term health effects from smoking. Unsecure in the back of a pickup, can cause instant death. I have yet to see anyone die instantly from a smoke, less from second hand smoke.
  19. You recall something called Prohobition in the US? And you know how long that lasted? You do realize the same things would happen with cigarettes if they became illegal, right? And no, I do not encourage children to call the police on their parents if they caught them smoking pot. because , it is none of my damn business. If the pot or cigg smoking, alcohol or other drugs (even the legal pharmacuticle drugs can be habit forming and very dangerous) negitively impacts the childs life, then it should be family members and friends to intervene for the better. Be a man and get some balls, talk to the parents about your concern, don't ever leave it up to the cops to decide what actions should be taken. You will get more respect this way, and may actually solve the issue and positively impact the whole family's life. Leave the police out of it, not their problem, and a waste of resources to 'combat' a social issue, because it is not a criminal issue. If you support this, then you should support banning alcohol along with everything else. I do know some parents that smoke, but not in front of their children. I do not have children yet, and I would rather my children learn about pot/alcohol/drugs and how they will affect your life if abused, from me than from the cops.
  20. It is not just the nicotine that is the problem. It is also the habit of smoking. The habit is etched into the person's daily activities. It is very hard to break those long term habits. It can be done though. Kimmy I think he was really refering to people who are long time smokers, quit, then get fat, for they need to fill a bad habit with another one. Cigarettes and food are comfort habits. I am a smoker, (pot) and I tell you, every day after work I relax with a joint, (you can substitute wth cigarettes/alcohol/ ect here). Since I have had this habit for the last 6 years, it would be pretty hard to break it. The nicotine in cigarettes will make things much tougher, for you go through some withdrawl while you change the habitual routine. But overall, I think this to be new law is absolutely retarded. Slippery slope indeed. The government works for me, not the other way around. The people tell the government what to do, not the other way around. Anyways, I am starting to ramble on. Banning smoking in : workplace, malls, restaurants and other enclosed public spaces I do not have a problem with. If the government is telling me what to do in my own car or home, then I will gladly hand over those responsibilities to the government. They can take up the financial burden and other every day activities that goes on in my home and car. Get out, or take over completely. Since it is my place, I will continue to make the rules.
  21. I have heard of it, and that is part of the reason I really don't care about it. People who want to vote based on gender, cultural preference, image, is not helping. They are either misguided, or simply not informed enough about the candidate. It does not help when main stream media plays into this whole IMAGE IS EVERYTHING (screw the thirst) which in turn influences the general population to vote based on superficial qualities. It is a circus, which performing animal can wow the crowd the most.
  22. So much time is spent on how the candidates look/act, it takes away from their actual substance. It should not be about appearence, it should be about substance. I care about what they say, not how they say it. I care about their senate voting records, not their polling records. These debates are nothing more than a media circus. You are the audience watching this circus. If you have no substance, it does not matter what the hell your image is or how you present it.
  23. I believe it happend, but I will contest the scale reported via 'history'. Just the process of dispossing m6 million people is a huge task. And to have 6 million specifically killed in this fashion though. I am looking at a logistics point of view. A few hundred thousand .. maybe under a million might be a more accurate number. It is possible 6 million jews were killed in Germany in WWII, however, I do not think concentration gas camps contributed that much to the overall number. I am not taking away the importance of the tragedy (like any ethnic cleansing ... errrr I mean genocide/murder)Reports just simply could have been exagerated to promote a new cause. That is the problem with all of this is the possibility it was just really overexagerated in how many died in concentration camps.
  24. Toronto cannot handle snow, let alone an earthquake. The probability of an earthquake in Toronto is pretty slim. The other thing I want to know is, why do we need help from a foreign military for domestic emergency issues? Should we not be able to take care of that stuff on our own?? And if not... why not? Are there too many US soldiers on foreign soil the reason they may need Canadian troops cruising streets of Washington or Dallas or L.A. or Chicago?? Why do we need the military when we should have more than enough civilian capacity to accomplish this task? Why has not the money been spent on civilian emergency responders? Kill the spending for that so we can send in the military??? Does not make sense. The politicians in power seem to make sure that there is less civilian emergency responders to make sure that the military option needs to be taken. This means that ANYTHING that is delcared as a 'state of emergency' and I mean ANY state of emergency, you have foreign troops on your soil telling YOU what to do. Bad precident, for those troops are not accountable for their actions.
  25. Divide, conquer. It is as simple as that. Not the first time, and won't be the last. Unfortunately.
