  1. I have a reliable source that then places both those witnesses on the American Airlines aircraft that did not crash into the Pentagon on 9/11. That of course means that not only was Harper involved, he has access to top secret time travel equipment. SECRET AGENDA
  2. I don't see how extra rest at this time in the season could adversely affect anybody in the rotation. It's actually a great and unusual luxury. Estrada may have lost a bit, hitters may have figured out his style more. Stroman too. Neither throws hard enough to get guys out much with the fastball, and if they leave an off speed pitch over the plate.... But you are right, it is not too early to think of the playoffs, but putting Liriano in the pen now has no purpose. The horrific situation the Jays have had with lefties in the pen has not changed all season. Their 40 man includes only Girodo, Loup and Cecil as leftie ptttching. I just cannot imagine the terror of Girodo or Loup late in a playoff game- so it looks like Cecil be default. Scary stuff. The four man playoff rotation will come down to either Stroman or Liriano, and I reckon the other will for sure go to the pen. Either can do some strong long relief, though long relief usually means you've already lost the game if the starter got pulled early. The real advantage in having them there is either one is an adequate replacement starter if anybody else goes down to injury- Happ, Estrada or Sanchez. Another reason to have one of them there is that pitchers don't often last even 7 innings in the playoffs, the jays have some quality in either Stroman or Liriano. Stroman might be better in the pen because he is more likely to come in and throw strikes, an absolute prerequisite for a reliever.
  3. Ron Paul misses entirely here: Nobody cares if a small group preaches anything, or a large group for that matter. But when that small group actually commits violence and savagery against persons for the reason that they are not fundamentalist Sunni Muslims- I think it is reasonable to not just talk but to act to protect ourselves. I don't need to single out anybody, they are intent on doing that for themselves and take extraordinary pride in their faith and their actions.
  4. It had -like most hockey- very, very little appeal outside Canada. Or do you mean "World Famous in Canada"? It wasn't even televised outside Canada, and was nothing of the sort as a world championship. Even the World Championships are not really that, mostly leftovers from teams that didn't make the Stanley Cup playoffs, and kids/borderline players who are not good enough to make the NHL. Even the World Juniors, which is wonderful hockey, is largely ignored outside Canada. The stands are empty when the host is not Canada, and nobody except Canada watches outside the host country. There is no doubt that the Olympics were of great benefit to the NHL, but now the IOC and IIHF have killed the golden goose. Oh well.
  5. First I laugh, then I despair for my country when I read this stuff. Wow.
  6. It was you that claimed-in this thread- that the CBC was 'extremely popular'. It is not. You started the discussion, now you are running for cover when challenged. Are you going to pretend you didn't? Go ahead, scurry back and edit that fabrication out of existence.
  7. It is not much different though- because every TV owner must pay to own the TV. It doesn't matter if you are not connected to broadcast, internet, cable or satellite TV sources.
  8. That was a really inept dodge of the issue I raised, actually the issue you introduced: the popularity of CBC TV vs the cost. You must learn to be more subtle when you try to move the goalposts. Market data indicates that CBC TV network overall, and CBC shows in particular, are at or close to the bottom in every major Canadian network. So I will ask again: what is your justification for insisting that your fellow citizens continue to pay big time for something that almost nobody watches, on a national scale?
  9. four years ago. Dickey has not done anything that warrants carrying a no hit catcher. And I guess the Jays agree since Thole is now on irrecocable waivers. If Dickey makes the playoff roster, which is unlikeley unless there are injuries, Martin will catch for him. I think we will see Navarro tonight against Baltimore. And best to enjoy Dickey in September, we probably won't see him again on the Jays.. He is 41 and UFA after the season.
  10. Just saw Hell or High Water, a modern Western set in poor rural Texas. This is one of the best movies I've seen this year. Great soundtrack, great cinematography and a well written script that is acted well. It features screen bros Ben Foster and Chris Pine(Star Trek link) as real bros who make some bad decisions in pursuit of a noble end. Jeff Daniels is great in this flick and will get some Oscar buzz. It is somehting of a replay of his previous duster Oscar nomination in True Grit. Also saw Sausage Party. If you thought Team America was funny but too highbrow, check it out. It is very crude and pretty funny- the first animated R rated movie.
  11. By what measure is the CBC 'extremely popular'? I think you had a big typo there and meant CBC was 'extremely expensive' and 'almost entirely ignored by Canadian TV viewers'. CBC TV is not popular in any large markets in Canada. Period. What is funny and sad and yes ironic is that defenders of CBC TV just gloss right over how insignificant, and how expensive, CBC TV is for the very few who actually tune in. If this comedian/clown is on CBC TV, it is a certainty that few Canadians have heard of him. Include me in that group.
  12. So sorry for your loss. His love for you and yours for him shines on brightly, it will never dim and he will be with you always. I was glad to read that you have family to mourn him with and also to celebrate him with, because nothing matters more than family.
  13. LOL. Lets convert all furnaces to coal and wood too. Both are natural and organic products.
  14. Budweiser? These guys will both get off as mentally deficient and unable to understand the nature of their crime.
  15. I had dinner last night with a couple from Fort Mac. They lost their home in the fire and found a place to rent. They confirmed that there was a brief window on the first day when the fire might have been contained, but after that it was impossible to extinguish or control. They also noted that very little money has been paid out to anybody by insurance companies. Little rebuilding has occurred this year and as a result. In a few short weeks, it will be cold and much harder to rebuild anything. We all found it ironic and typical that these same insurance companies all took out expensvie print and media ads during and after the fire to assure locals that 'we have your back'. Yeah sure you do.
  16. That is all great comment. Now get out your wallet and pay for your own education and entertainment, because I'm sick of doing it. The CBC should go the way of the oldest public broadcaster in Canada- CKUA- and support itself via public subscription. Then everybody will get exactly what they want, and the people who love CBC can foot the bill. And yes, I do send $20 per month to CKUA.
  17. On the other hand, why have they been carrying a complete mutt like Thole for so long?
  18. Love the acquisition of Navarro. He wasn't hitting for the White Sox, but he is an immediate upgrade to Thole. This is a weakness filled, and hopefully he can add some leftie hitting.
  19. What happens in midwinter in Toronto when a few hundred thousand diesels start on a dark or cloudy day?
  20. The reason I raise this is that the cost of upgrading distribution lines for this scenario is immense. You have to build the lines to 110% capacity to provide for times when intermittent sources are offline, then what happens when they start to add load? You cannot shut off a big generating plant when a puff of wind makes extra juice on the grid. The capital costs are very substantial, and the need to overbuild will add to that. It is not about net metering, it about building a system that works cheaply and efficently in an industrilazed envirnoment.
  21. He has a photographer full time with him. Everyhthng is staged, and if these ops don't present themselves, they are sought out. They are on social media a few minutes later via his handlers.
  22. He will be PM for at least 8 and likely 12 years. Your numbers will be much much higher than $150 Billion. Just like his Dad, he has no clue about the economy. Nearly every export sector in Canada is shutting down or hurting, but by golly we are diverse.
  23. Glad to see there is consensus now that the value of Bautista the Player Formerly Known as an Asset has been squandered.
  24. I am not sure which guy was the most sick at that Kingston concert: Downie or Trudeau. Probably Downie, since his disease is fatal. I don't know if there are any recorded deaths from advanced Attention Whore Syndrome.
  25. Yes, I know that is an oft repeated and IMO overused meme. Nobody comes to our cities to marvel at our diversity. People do come here to marvel at our landscapes. Our cities are nearly all dull and new and sprawling. Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, QC, Vancouver and others have some interesting neighbourhoods. I don't see anybody flying the Atlantic to spend a few hours marvelling at The Plateau or Cabbagetown. Yes, I know Torontohas the most foreign born people or whatever, but it is still grey and generally dull compared to so many others on the planet. No matter what we want to think, Toronto is not even remotely as interesting as other diverse cities which include London, Paris, Berlin, Chicago, New York and many others.
