Iran and India Determined to Develop Chabahar Port
overthere replied to argonautluk's topic in Business and Economy
Those 'profound cultural ties' were largely crushed with the rise of Shia states in about 900 AD. The linguistic links are largely meaningless, now. Te vast majority of Pakistanis originate in India, and Iranians are proudly Persian. The two states hate each other on a level that won't be overcome soon. The alliances of India/ Iran, and Pakistan/China are economic-not cultural or religious. -
Inference? The one that I draw is that fundamental mosques are not led by stupid people. Neither are political parties. The Imams know that their image does not sell well to the average Canadian, and pretending to reside in this millenium briefly, by allowing Wynne to appear, does plenty for their image. And they would of course think Trudeau is a minion of Satan as well, but he helps brighten a brutally tarnished(and deserved) image of gender oppression. The Imams have zero interest in Diversity, which is a relentless Trudeau meme. The basis of their message is compl;ete conformity and adherence to their version of Islam, diversity is not their friend in any way. And what does Trudeau get? Votes and air time. I understand how he gets votes from the congregation at the mosque as simple payback for enabling their public relations undertaking, but who actually loathe the message he delivers. I don't get how he gets votes from people who should know better, who should recognize this charade as political theater.

Wynne says Hydro rates an "Urgent" Issue

Companies like Magna have a few reasons not to invest in Canada, and high hydro bills are just one of them. The high cost of labour is another. The small Canadian domestic market is another. Access to US markets for Canadian-based manufacturers is going to shrink , and soon, is another. And of course the extraordinarily onerous regulatory process we inflict on ourselves is another. If Magna builds in Slovenia, Alabama, Guangzhou they get access to big markets with much lower overheads directly, no need to waste time and money in Canuckistan -
Iran and India Determined to Develop Chabahar Port

Pakistan is Sunni, Iran is Shia. There is no tie and no unity there. And the ties between Pakistani military intelligence units(ISI) and Islamic militants within the country are very strong and deep. There is no way that the Taliban and Al Qaeda flourish and reside within Pakistan without the active connivance of the Pakistan military. There is a small pretence of the govt opposing Islamic fundies, but only because it keeps aid flowing from the West. And the militants tend to keep a low profile, in return for safe haven. How else would Osama bin Laden live quietly for years right beside a major Pakistani military installation? -
Ah, the relentless pigeonholing.... FRance is an example(there are others) of a country that is generally far, far left of Canada. Yet they are , overall, far less tolerant of brown people (immigrants or locals) than Canada. How would you reconcile that reality? Are they 'progressive' bigots and hardliners?

Trudeau's first shot in a trade war......
overthere replied to Derek 2.0's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Trudeau is a step ahead here already. There are not many builders foolish enough to build new homes in SK or AB. What? BC is counting on Rachel Notley being forced by her own actions to pay a premium for Site C power, since Notely forced several AB generators out of business. The hilarious thing is that she now expects those same generators to eat the multibillion dollar losses from her actions to a) not sue the govt and b ) invest many more of their billions in expensive 'renewables. In return, Christy Clark will 'allow' the expansion of a pipeline that has been in BC for about 60 years now. In real terms, this pending bit of balckmail confirms that every hamlet, city, province and Firsrt Nation has a veto over federally mandated projects in our Brave New World. And of course, the main purpose of Site C development is to provide hydro to the many LNG projects that are not happening now. And Trudeau has not approved any of those either. It likely won't matter if the federal government stops rotating on its own thumb now, it is unliikely that Petronas or anybody else is interested now in BC LNG. All the prime, juicy LNG supply contracts and clients have now bought elsewhere. But budgets balance themselves. -

I'm not going to pretend that the Jays were in contention in that game after about the fifth ining. Boston just took over, and again showed them how to win. In that particular game, their bullpen allowed two runs, ours allowed five. The team can hit, they have lost numerous games this year in which they had plenty of baserunners. And now Zaun and Martinez and Tabler and Shulman are all on my bandwagon, the one I've been on for months: the Jays don't win because they don't play/refuse to play a style of game that allows them to win. It didn't matter today, but if sure mattered in many of their other losses.
-
Last year it took 86/87 wins to gain a wildcard spot. This year I think it will take 91 or 92 wins. If so, the Jays will need to win about 14 of their last 20- or effectively win all the remaining series. It is not impossible, but they must do the things they control to make it happen. They haven't done those things for several seasons now, so unless their hitting goes insane- they are in tough now. They have to move an unproductive Bautista out of a big RBI spot in the batting order, and make other adjustments based on how people are hitting, not how the manager wants them to hit.. But most of all, every player has to do what they must at the plate to win a game. The best play I've seen in weeks was in one of the Jays losses to the Yankees, the second one . Brian McCann is hitting cleanup as DH, and homers his first at bat. His next at bat- he bunts into the shift in a serious attempt to get on base. It didn't work, but I just cannot imagine anybody on the Jays hitting 2 through about 8 on the order trying that. The players won't try to hit in situations, and the manager won';t tell them to do it. It has cost them many games this year.............and will continue until they change or the season ends. I don't think the Jays are in the running for the AL East any more. The Sox series this weekend made it pretty clear who is the alpha dog in the division now.

and having the latest IPhone is a human right. -
It is not evident that the Jays will be hotly contesting that wild card race now........Bosto looks they will take the AL East, their starting pitching is strong and their batting is ridiculous. Half a dozen teams are in the running for the wild cards, and the two that go on runs will be there at the end. All those close games wasted by the Jays come into the equation now. 17 runners LOB last night, 8 earned runs given up by the bullpen. It is pretty obvious that the league has watched the video on Estrada: lay off the changeup, smash the fastball for extra bases. He isn't fooling anybody anymore. He is walking people now too, because he does not have a pitch he can throw for a strike that does not get hit. And they are not even competitive in close games, not that they have had many lately. There is no obvious solution for their woes. Maybe Happ can get lucky and stop the bleeding.

I already gave you a list of his actions since elected that delay pipelines. Pay attention. I made an error in the OP, the company involved in Energy East is Trans Canada. Of course, the comments apply equally to Enbridge or TC- both have just made huge investments outside Canada, since they cannot make any new investments in Canada except to fund endless, pointless reviews by more and more layers of 'consultation' l There is one born every minute. Every NEB decision ever made is now dead. The KInder Morgan(formerly Trans Mountain)expansion is now neatly set up to not be decided by this fall, as promised by Trudeau. Trudeau has now neatly avoided being oblged to render a Cabinet decision on the project already approved by the NEB. Kinder Morgan is a privately owned US company. Enbridge and Trans Canada are Canadian corps. They will be leaving the country, with their many tens of billions of doallrs of projects, and abandoning all their expansion plans in Canada. We can certainly expect that their HQ and thousands of jobs will join the stampede shortly. Justin wins. We lose.

http://news.gc.ca/web/article-en.do?mthd=tp&crtr.page=1&nid=1122609&crtr.tp1D=1 Enbridge should just give up now. In spite of having spent years and hundreds of millions trying to satisfy the ever changing whims of Trudeau, it is now apparent that there is nothing they can say or do to get any projects approved and built in Canada. Luckily they just invested a massive amount in the United Sates, a clever move. Now, it is time for them to move their headquarters out of Calgary as well. The jobs are not wanted in this country. The biggest lie here is that the application will proceed. There is no point in continuing, the game is rigged and Enbridge will give up.

I have seen a few barn dances- two is about one too many really- but I have to admit I did not see anybody that moved or looked provocative in any way, shape or form. Go ahead, do-si-do your ass off, nothing moves in my trousers.

Wynne says Hydro rates an "Urgent" Issue
overthere replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
In Alberta today the market rate for residential consumers today is about $.037 /kwh if you chose floating rate, and $.08/kwh on a contract. Both will skyrocket soon when Notleyomics takes hold. What is the rate in ON? We are like you, we urgently and actively want to dissuade investment. -

Apple Corporation is Bad for Technology
overthere replied to MiddleClassCentrist's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Is there any way I could get two adapters for $1600?? I think that perhaps Apple is going to have to change their global business model. The latest phone announcement has not caused their stock to bounce. Their products are all premium priced , but how does that sustain growth? They cannot really penetrate anywhere outside Yurp and North America because consumers in developing countries simply cannot afford Apple products.. Yes, I know they have hundreds of billions in a war chest- but unless they use it to develop/sell cheap Apple stuff under another name I don't see how they grow their base. -

Wynne will do whatever Trudeau tells her to do about carbon pricing. Don't forget, Trudeau tried to bully the premiers into a national carbon tax a few months back, and they balked much to his embarrassment. The next meeting is this fall, and he wants action. Wynne will do what she is told to do. -
Canada - a wholly owned province of China
overthere replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
-effectively cancelled northern gateway with an end run tanker ban ,after it was approved by their own board using their own process. Since then, Trudeau has failed to speak about the court ruling invaldiating the approval. -added yet another new requirement for 'social licence review' of major projects, after the NEB review, and it applies to projects already submitted to the NEB -obliged Energy East to resubmit their entire submission because the first one was 'too technical'. That is a massive undertaking. -failed to approve any LNG permits. Just a beginning. The man is an idiot and is blithely driving our economy straight into the toilet. -

In notable business transactions, the AIIB just lent several billion bucks to Indonesia, so they could build a bunch of coal fired power plants. Meanwhile, back at the ranch in Canada, Trudeau puts roadblock after roadblock up for export of oil products. The World Bank refused to lend the money because of the impact on the environment. Suddenly, this is not an issue for Canada. In reality, joining the AIIB is required of lickspittle supplicants to China. Australia threw some joints out of whack scrambling to join AIIB, they are a commodity producer that is dependent on Chinese goodwill. Luckily for Canada, every new member gets a complimentary set of (Chinese made) kneepads. In our case, I suspect we traded a delay in getting screwed on billions of canola exports in exchange for 'volunteering' to join the AIIB. -

I'm not sure why you thought the purpose of smart meters is to reduce your costs. The reason for smart meters is for your utility provider to maintain or increase their revenue in the face of declining consumption. And you are going to get boned hard again when the utility runs out of tricks with time of day' charges, and introduces you to the second horror of 'demand charges'. Its easy to do with smart meters, they are like little ATMs on every home.
