  1. Are they included in the low low retail price of $650US/$800 CDN? Sign me up.
  2. I agree that you are mistaken. In fact, in a measurable outcome like life expectancy- Canada is middle of the pack of developed countries, and the US is well down.
  3. True on both. And it won't change the amazing statistic that Canadians live on average almost 3 years longer than Americans. Same culture, same crappy food, same sedentary lifestyles, same large number of lardos- and Canadians live a very significant 3 years longer. And the reason? All Canadians from birth have easy access to preventative medicine. Many Americans do not. It depends on income. Oh, and the other embarrassing stat is that USA spends considerably more per capita overall on a public/private system than Canada does on a single payer system.. So, USA has both higher input costs, and worse measurable outcomes. You get less result for more cost. Please do not have a heart attack when you read this.
  4. that is a rare exception and if they have a day or two- Farmer gets the call because he is next.
  5. None of these teams will be at the level of suck you see in the Olympic qualifying tournaments with teams like Latvia, Norway, Austria and Slovenia. And it won't be at the extraordianary level of hockey seen in the Olympic semifinals with the final four teams. It will have many of the same players, but there is no way this World Cup will have the same level of intensity from the players. There are pretty close to eight teams: US, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Czechs, Canada and you;d now have to include Switzerland because they scare the crap out of big teams every time now.
  6. I cheer for Finland when Canada is not playing. They play a wonderful style of grit and speed and relentless work. Many years they have not had enough depth to compete at the very top, lately they have done very well indeed. I also hate the way Sweden usually plays- one goal and they revert to a full trap. Blah.
  7. The industry has not changed at all. The demand for oil globally is increasing, and your illogical and simply wrong fantasies nothwithstanding, the jobs are not disappearing- they are just leaving Canada and so is the means to pay for your Brave New World. I lose. You lose. Every other oil exporter wins. Well played by your side. Enjoy the result, and be prepared for a savage and very real backlash in the quality of your life. Turdeau/Canada will run out of credit sooner now.
  8. Increasingly, people in the energy industry understand that they are hated in Canada, and will pack up their investment plans, issue a trainload of pink slips, and head off to one of the other energy exporters on the planet, all of whom will welcome them with open arms. Major Canadian Corporations like Enbridge(announced today) and Trans Canada(a couple months ago) are embracing diversity by acquiring and merging with big US companies. The next announcement will be that they will close their HQ in Canada and move those jobs elsewhere. I know you'll cheer when that happens, could you also bring a can of beans for the Food Bank to the party? Your neighbours will get hungry when the pogey runs out.
  9. It is uncommon even in the uSA...... Obama approved thousands of kms of domestic pipelines during his tenure. Refinery and port upgrades He repealed the law banning US export of crude oil, he approved LNG facilities...... So sorry to bring facts into your fantasies...
  10. That makes little sense. People who live on farms or some distance from urban centers have access to modern conveniences like telephones. With these devices, their GP can make an appointment for a specialist or a procedure in the clinic/hospital, and get in the queue. Being across the street from the big hospital does not get quicker access to a MRI or knee surgery. The wait times for emergency care are the same too: move to the head of the line no matter where you live.
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPRfP_TEQ-g Watch the video of their performance. If I was Trump and had written a cheque, I'd cancel payment. Wow.
  12. In France, every visit to a doctor requires a user pay component. Last time I asked family, it is about 15 Euros. Health care in UK is two tiered. The public system is more or less overwhelmed. The private system also does contract work for the public system. Guess which system attracts the best doctors and specialists?
  13. I see the Invention of Demons is out for a walk today.
  14. No, they are forced to play for the hybrid team. There is no doubt that Connor McDavid would have played for Team Canada, and nearly as certainly Eichel for USA. Both are exceptional players right now, and equally as important is that both are huge marketing tools for the NHL because they are clearly 'future of the game' players. Marketing of this 'World Cup' is really important to both the NHL and NHLPA, they will announce that the NHL is not going to the next Olympics and this tourney is there effort to continue to market the game globally. But the only country that can host this event and make money is going to be Canada(just like the World Juniors). Domi is not good enough to make the North America team. Matthews would not have made the USA team, he has yet to prove that he can play at an NHL level.
  15. There is little to nothing they can do now about the decline in quality of starting pitching. And there is no evidence to suggest they will attempt to address their unwillingness to advance runners, score key runs and thereby win close games. The manager won't do it, and the players as a group have refused so far. That factor becomes crucial against playoff teams, since all of them have good pitching and it is hard to mount big innings. The Jays 'strategy' will be to do what they always do: hope for the big hit no matter what. It does look to be an entertaining home stretch, not much separates the teams in the AL East and the wild card race in the AL will be hotly contested by several teams.
  16. Everybody at football games is there voluntarily, all are paid to attend except the fans. The player has a constitutional right not to stand during the anthem, and the cops are working extra hours for extra pay to provide armed security. Their choices are personal. Kaerpernick was ranked about 26th as a QB in the NFL last year, so if he gets fired everybody will have a legit excuse and something to argue about in the inevitable lawsuits.
  17. Yep. One is an expert, a fire safety officer for one of the plants. The other is in real estate. They live(d) very close to where it started. Neither blames fire crews, once the wind got the fire, as usual it was out of control and grew exponentially.
  18. Hilarious! Bitch about neocons and rednecks all day, then clamour to join AK. Buddy, you have never been there if you think it would a kinder, gentler place. I have been there numerous times. It ain't what you think it is.
  19. I want a phone that does less and costs far, far less than anything Apple makes now. Android next, I'm done with $700+ phones from Apple.
  20. As a loyal Canadian, this relentless sense of self righteous smugness that continually emerges always makes me throw up a bit in my mouth. And it is almost always in the context of pretending we are better than Americans.
  21. I reckon it is time for a change in the Jays batting order, to address a big hole: Bautista at leadoff. It just is not working anymore. Today was an example.......1 for 5, 5 runners LOB. I don't know how or why Bautista has lost his mojo, and it doesn't matter. But he has lost it. If he does not hit, he is not an everyday player any more. The Jays have tried many players now at leadoff, and it is apparent that Joey B is not the right guy. So who is? I think it comes to 2 possibles: Travis and a new name, Upton. Upton is a gamble, but I think he would play better if he played more. And he can still steal a base, and he is not worse than Bautistta in the field. Travis just hits much too well to lead off, and he hits for average. He should be hitting second or perhaps fifth/sixth- not ninth. My new lineup. Upton LF Travis 2b Donaldson 3B Encarnacion 1B Martin C Tulo SS Navarro/Bautista DH (Navarro to start as C one out of 5), Saunders and Joey can also platoon in RF Saunders RF Pillar CF Our lineup is stagnant. Time to shake it up. I know it won't happen, because Gibbons if horrified at the idea that he might hurt a veterans feelings.
  22. I don't agree that the size of the rink defines the quality of hockey. Ever.
  23. I reckon the last few Olympics were better hockey.
  24. Of course they existed in tribal societies, and without govenment fiat. Land has been cultivated for thousands of year, and farmers in the Fertile Crescnt built walls to enforce their right to the land they developed into the first domestic crops. Their right came from their work, and from their ability to defend their crops by force.
  25. It could help, unless the decision is to demote Stroman to the pen. It will depend somewhat on how the two starters do down the stretch- they have to keep one of them. I still think Cecil is going to be on the playoff roster no matter what, even if Liriano goes to the pen. Cecil has dropped his ERA since the all star break, but he has some really crap numbers overall. One that is puzzling is that leftie batters are hitting nearly .300 against him! Righties are over .300. That makes it hard to even bring him in to pitch against lefties, one or two batters. There might not be any solution other than going to Liriano in the pen. That makes me uneasy, because he has had control problems and relievers must throw strikes when they come in! I think Gibbons has another approach altogether: score 10 runs and who cares about a shaky pen? I agree that Biagini has been a very pleasan surprise and has earned a starter shot next year to replace Dickey. Big cash saving there too. They will lijkely give Feldman a chance too.
