  1. Maybe we need to quarantine some folks here. In Cuba I have herard that they quarantine you if you have aids. In Canada perhaps we should quarantine people if they veer too far right of the political mainstream. Then after a reasonable period of time with some deprogramming, these right wingers could be released back into society and hopefully they will not do so much damage to society after being quarantined for a few years.
  2. Who do you think comes closest to John Tory's behaviour, alluded to in the above article, amongst the federal political party leaders?
  3. The guy who wouldn't fight Fascinating and a great example. I wonder if Harper is listening.
  4. Kinsella is a take no prisoner type of guy when it comes to politics. And in politics unfortunately if you don't fight fire with fire you will perish. We have a wonderful country however I could live enjoyably in many different parts of the world, but perhaps that is because I know I could always return to Canada if need be. I have some real issues with overbearing nationalism whether it is Quebecois, American or Canadian as it always leads to excesses and ends up denegrating others in society. I believe tolerance is crucial for today's multicultural urban living and believe that everyone should be forced to go to public schools to learn tolerance of those with other languages, cultures, abilities, sexuality, and religions. Where Canada is indeed most fortunate is the amount of land mass we have in comparison to our population. This is especially important for those of us that enjoy the great outdoors. People come from all over the planet to hike and ski in our mountains, and to fish in our pristine lakes. and rivers. Canada though has one major challenge and that is our Southern neighbour. Although we have had a relatively peaceful relationship with the US, if they continue to elect these war mongers and religious nuts for leaders, Canada and the US will continue to drift further and further apart. the more we can divesify our trade with outher countries the better off we will be. My dream is that we all will become trilingual some day, French, English, and Cree, and that the federal government take over education and shove these other languages down our throats. I also would like to see the feds take over apprenticeship training as the provinces especially BC, has seriously botched the job.
  5. Come on. Politically speaking it was a brilliant move. The Conservatives were too stupid to see the benefits and credibility that Belinda brought to them. Now the Cons will pay the price in Ontario in the next election for their ignorance. Looks good on them I say.
  6. He means that he is a right winger! What a croc. Mulroney's favourite expression was if you throw enough shit agsainst the wall some of it sticks.
  7. Ya, 1% is going to bankrupct Canada if you listened to the Cons.
  8. To the shrill cries that this NDP budget is going to bankrupct our country PM Martin responds this is only an additional 1% of expenditures, and that is not going to damage Canada's finances: PM defends recent spending
  9. May 26, 2005 - Being authored Mark Steyn,............. One may like or dislike Kinsella however sometimes he is bang on and this is one of the times he hit the nail on the head.
  10. Apparently that is not in the cards, as it is not something the NDP would consider. While closer to the Liberals than the Conservatives I think the NDP prefer to remain at arm's length to the Liberals as they are still smarting from what happened in the last few days during the last election. The New Democrats though are prepared to make Parliament work if the price is right. And so far so good, and as well it is keeping the barbarians outside the gates of power.
  11. I hate to break it to ya but the Bloc does not run Canada. They need to be taken down a notch or two anyway, they are commanding way too much power in Ottawa than their numbers/supporters warrant, and what better way to do it than bring in PR. I bet if someone had asked you a couple of months ago whether you thought the Liberals would cave in for a $4.6 billion budget change, you would have not agreed with the comments as well. For the first time ever we have a chance to become much more democratic in Canada, and all you people who profess to believe in democracy are against a more representative and fair system of voting in Canada. Democrats my ass! Go Jack Layton Go!
  12. There is one area that I disagree with the Leger poll about. The Conservatives are going nowhere with Harper as leader. If they had chosen Stronach they might be the government now. I know these kind of comments grait them, but ain't it the truth, and the truth hurts sometimes! I hope the Cons keep their opposition to same sex marriage as it ensures they will never be elected. What a bunch of bigoted dinasaurs - the angry white men's party.
  13. Let's live in today's world, eh pal! The NDP in BC was reduced to 2 seats in 2001 and look at them now...... What's the big deal about that? Anyway it is not me but the Canadian people who have spoken in this latest poll.
  14. Actually the last time I checked Canada was a social democratic society. These poll results speak for themselves as to what the average Canadian, which you obviously have a large disdain for, preferences are, and it sure NOT the Conservative party values, nor the values you espouse. Careful your fangs are showing!
  15. After soggy start, visit ends with a splash What's going on here? I know that Stephen has a habit of disappearing for extended periods at a time at the most inopportune times. Is this another one of these situations?
  16. I chauk these nothing but disasterous poll results for the Conservatives to their hatred for anything Canadian, and/or their intense dislike of Canadian values. Canadians like themselves, it is too bad Conservatives don't like Canadians. If this keeps up the Conservatives are going to be considered in a similiar way the Bloc is in the rest of Canada.
  17. Voters in poll fear Tory agenda BIG SAMPLE SIZE - more than 1,500 persons interviewed National Libs: 38% Cons: 27% NDP: 17% Ontario Libs: 46% Cons: 29% NDP: 19% British Columbia Libs: 47% Cons: 26% NDP: 22% Quebec Bloc: 62% Libs: 24% Do you think we will have an election now?
  18. Volpe says he took no part in wooing Tory MP I don't know about this!
  19. Try resonding with some substance instead of the usual right wing putdowns.
  20. What's this supposed to mean? There is only one other country, or maybe two at the most, that have such a large geographical territory as Canada does. Anyway most Canadians live in close proximinity to each other in large urban areas. I am sure we can address the health care issues for outlying areas.
  21. You guys go off on tangents very easily. What's important here is the possibility of electoral reform - proportional representation for our House of Commons. Then you will see Parliament work well for a change!
  22. Since when did that matter. They weren't going to vote Liberal anyway!
  23. Actually the NDP (Layton) have had discussions with David as he has tried the rounds. Orchard has a lot of absolutely superb ideas, unfortunately however, he is a one-man band, which in politics doesn't work very well. No, David needs to be where he is right now, out in left field, but all by himself.
  24. Not necessarily so. Chretien recanted on Free Trade, GST, you name it, and was re-elected several times. I think to be a Liberal you must first have to qualify as a compulsive liar. Remember for the Liberals it is strictly pragmagic - winning and staying in power is all that matters.
  25. NDP considering long-term deal with Liberals I am not sure if a coalition government means that the NDP would have cabinet seats because if that is what coalition means I am using the incorrect term. Interestingly enough, this could lead to years of Liberal-NDP rule. I know a lot of you are going to say but but PM Martin in his address to the nation said he was going to call an election after Gomery has released his report however I have heard that the report may take a lot longer to produce than originally thought, and more importantly it would not be the first time that Martin would change his mind on some issue, would it? Looks more and more like the NDP do control the balance of power in this government after all which must make Conservatives quite upset. Well there is one good solution to getting rid of the current Conservative pain, and that is to dump Harper, before he completely destroys the party. Electoral reform will turn out to be the key concession that the NDP will wrench from the Liberals.
