The Balkanization of Canada
bigdude replied to fellowtraveller's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Unadulterated crap. Trudeau had a vision for our country that not one political leader on the scene has today. He insisted on a bilingual civil service and would have gone even further with the dual languages thing, if the rednecks hadn't opposed him. All this nonsense about regionalism is fine but we have a country to govern. Harper's approach is to be a headwaiter to the provinces. There is no question we are overgoverned however the best solution would be to abolish the provinces and have just municipal and federal governments. After all what do the people in Lac St Jean have in common with the folks in St Henri? Dick all! -
Long shot energizes labour vote She may not win but she is raising the main problem withthe union movement. If by her campaign she is able to get this issue of low paid workers on labour's front burner Wall will have made a major contribution to Canadian society. Go Carol Go!

What's going to happen in the Labrador

My forecast is that the Liberals will win however their percentage of the vote will drop, while the NDP percentage will rise. -

This is the best possible thing that could have happened to MacKay after he stabbed Orchard in the back. What goes around, comes around! -

I love guys like you - you make it so easy to deafeat the Conservatives, and you are a perfect example of why we will not be electing a Conservative government anytime soon. Please keep it up -
What's scary is that you guys believe the stuff you say. Ever heard of Mulroney? You just don't get it. If there was ever a poll done on who is the meanest politician in Canada Harper would win hands down. No wonder he has NO chance to become PM.

More Racist Remarks By Conservatives
bigdude replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not only will Belinda take her seat but the publicizing of Harper's treatment of her will become a lightening rod, will galvanize voters, and will ensure that it is going to be very slim pickings for most Conservatives in Ontario (sililiar to the the present Liberal situation in Quebec). -
Probably the Best Website in Canadian Politcs
bigdude replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's too bad this website is not active at the moment. I remember when it first started and Dithers threatened to sue the 3 young, non-aligned to any party politically, guys from the Maritimes. Eventually the threatened Liberal lawsuit became the story, the website got massive free publicity, and Dithers dithered, and did nothing. -
I disagree. The only reason for corporations to exist is to remove liability from people who do bad things, and for tax evasion. Corporations have been the biggest abuse of citizens ever, more so than any war or famine has ever done.

Come off it - Fletcher used a racial slur and he should immediately resign as should the others who are bigoted against the gay community, SSM, etc. We don't need this kind of scum in our House of Commons, thank you! -
Personally I could care less about which base is kept open or closed. Why does Canada need any military bases anyway? Who's going to attack us, Duceppe and his gang of 3 ex-FLQ members? The only enemy we need to keep our eye on is the one just South of the border, and if they decide to invade military bases won't protect us. The military in Canada is a hugh waste of money and could be much better spent paying down the debt, yes paying down the debt, or by taking a portion of the military budget, and setting up an environmental force to police the moraless corporations. We don't need military bases for that - we have perfectly good civilian bases like PET airport in Montreal! Canada is grossly overpoliced!

Scott.........keep your eye on the ball pal, and the upcoming polls if Dithers continue to dither. -
Stating that closing the military base in Newfoundland is about to occur is blatant fearmongering on the eve of the by-election. Shameful behaviour. Is Harper that braindead to have not learned anything over the past few months? Canadians are sick of the lies and deceit. We need our politicians to just state their policies and then shutup.

Liberals attack Harper over base-closing claim How sad to see Harper who has been constantly accusing the Liberals of dishonesty, tell lies to try and win the Newfoundland & Labrador by-election. Harper has to go!

Evidence of Liberals attempting to Purchase People

Not sure what to make of all this, which is why I agree with the NDP's call for a RCMP probe into the Grewals Affair NDP renews calls for probe into Grewal claims -

I'm borrowing the following from another discussion board however it is priceless, apart from being an accurate perception the Conservatives have created for themselves with comments like Fletchers, amongst Canadians: -
More Racist Remarks By Conservatives
bigdude replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The point I was trying to make is that the Conservatives are always on the losing end of the stick. In any other situation, with any other party, the Liberals with the Gommery relevations, under their current most disappointing leader Paul Martin, remember when people were talking about Martin winning 250 seats - HA! HA!, would have been completely trashed by now by the official opposition. The reality is that the Cons have not, and never will, with their hostility towards equal rights and respect for all citizens, not just the privileged few. They just don't get it, but that's OK with me, as they would get power if they did. -

Mulroney is from Quebec however he is an anglophone. The Cons is full of a bunch of very sick people, and that, more than any other reason, is why they have no hope of getting elected, no matter how badly the Liberals screw up.. -

The Cons are a group of, for lack of a better term, "ANGRY WHITE MEN". They are feeling hard done by because their women won't listen to them any more, and want to make decisions about their own bodies, gays and visible minorities want equal rights, and all that sort of thing. Have the Cons ever had a francophone leader? I highly doubt it. This is the real scandal in Canada! -
Linda McQuaig praises Stronach for allowing the budget to survive amid vicious attacks from outraged right At the risk of giving short shrift to the juicy themes of betrayal and treachery in the great Ottawa morality play, I'll deal first with the substance. By crossing the floor, Belinda Stronach — hero or political whore, depending on your perspective — allowed the budget to survive. With the extra $4.6 billion in social spending insisted on by the NDP, this is the most progressive federal budget in 30 years. So this is a very good thing — even if it turns out that Stronach defected because she couldn't think of a gentler way to dump Peter MacKay. The mad rush to denounce Stronach was striking. When she decided a year-and-a-half ago to take a run at the Conservative leadership, it didn't seem to matter that she was an inexperienced little rich girl impulsively grabbing at the brass ring. She had the wind at her back, the media at her feet. Those good old Alberta boys were happy to have the handsome blonde head to use as a battering ram against Liberal strongholds in Ontario. But when that same inexperienced little rich girl impulsively grabbed at a brass ring last week, no scornful epithet was spared — sell-out, whore, dipstick, political slattern, blonde ambition, Judas. Suddenly her wealth became an issue. The same crowd who never condemn the unfairness of inherited wealth, abruptly began disparaging Stronach for her inherited wealth. It was fine when all that money was being used to finance her run at the Conservative party leadership, so she could champion more tax cuts for the rich. But now that she was helping NDP leader Jack Layton deliver more than a billion dollars in affordable housing for the poor, her wealth apparently became annoying. "I will not be lectured to by some poor little rich girl," snarled Christie Blatchford in The Globe and Mail. After interviewing Stronach, a CBC radio program played the song "She's a rich girl and she's gone too far ..." She was also denounced as ambitious. Yet, for years the media encouraged a nakedly ambitious Paul Martin as he plotted against Jean Chrétien. Nor did pundits accuse Martin of betraying his principles for abandoning the social spending promises he made in the 1993 Liberal Red Book. As long as politicians veer to the right, pundits seem satisfied they're acting on principle. How sick is our media in Canada anyway?

Tolry MP apologizes for language How sad that Canada still elects people of this mindset. I'm so tired of these sick puppies being in our House of Commons. Fletcher should do the honourable thing and resign his seat.

Scott.....buckle up and take it like a man! Martin did it to himself with the moronic Gomery commission, and everyone with any kind of political savvy in Canada knows that. -
I think it is a very progressive platform and quite frankly, living in Canada, who gices a tinker's damm about our military. Our biggest military threat, bare none, comes from South of the border.

Paulmartintime Quite a guy, this prime minister of ours, eh!

New Democrats Bask In Their Glory Today
bigdude replied to bigdude's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Scott....you can huff and puff all you want. You know as well as I do that Martin has been discredited in the eyes of the Canadian public. Do you seriously think it is only the Cons that need a leadership review? What ever happened to the 250 seats that Martin was supposed to bring aboard the Liberal express. Mr Dithers has been a dismal failure, and it it is time you woke up to that fact.
