Why is Race Still an issue?
ironstone replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
So do you think Romney will actually say to American blacks "I'm gonna put y'all back in chains"? It is the Dems,by and large that want to make race an issue in this election. I'm guessing that there are more blacks on entitlement programs now then there were before 2008.How is this progressive in any way? -
Could Obama lose?
ironstone replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You neglected to mention an additional 5 trillion dollars of debt even though Obama promised to cut the deficit in half at the end of his first term.As for all the other entitlements, how will he pay for them with more and more Americans depending on these entitlements? I don't think the US or the world can afford another 4 years of this madness. -
NDP forced to pay back illegal campaign donations
ironstone replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No need to get yourself upset about this because quite simply, you WILL NOT see it mentioned by the consensus media again. You will however, keep reading about the alleged(but unproven)violations by the Conservative Party concerning the robocalls. It will be rehashed over and over and over... -
And so, after months and months of investigating and millions spent by Elections Canada, where exactly is the hard evidence against the Conservatives?I have read about hard evidence against the Liberal MP and also the hard evidence against the NDP(if you blinked, you would have missed it in most papers). http://www.ottawasun.com/2012/08/27/mums-the-word-liberal-lefty-lawbreaking-goes-unreported
-
The point I'm trying to make is that Conservative sins, real or imagined, are reported much more often than misdeeds by the Libs and the NDP.A good example is the robocalls scandal. This has been going on for a very long time now,it regularly makes the front page of the Ottawa Citizen and other papers associated with Postmedia News.To date,no charges or concrete evidence have been brought forth.A Liberal DOES get caught and fined, and the call itself get's recorded. This news is in the Citizen for a grand total of.....one day,and not on the front page either. The same can be said for the ILLEGAL campaign donations recieved from unions to the NDP,a very brief mention and that's the end of it!Why no follow up on these stories?
-
The biggest weakness of the NDP is their actual policy platform.Who in their right mind wants Canada to end up like Greece? However, the NDP has some huge advantages over the Conservatives, namely, the bar is set much lower for them than the Harper government courtesy of the consensus media.Illegal campaign donations from unions scarcely got mentioned if at all.How would the press have reacted if Harper had been caught naked in that massage parlour? Why so little scrutiny of Libby Davies and her hatred of Israel? Why no criticism of a party that runs a candidate in a riding in Quebec that never bothers to set foot there(she ends up winning....some Canadians are indeed that dumb) and DOES NOT SPEAK FRENCH?I have read on more than one occasion that Thomas Mulcair has a rather short fuse but that fact is not repeated endlessly by the media, unlike Harper supposedly being a control freak. As for Jack Layton,of course I was saddened by his death and have sympathy for his family, but not in a million years would I have voted for him.Quite frankly,I think it's tasteless how the NDP is exploiting his name but I have no doubt Jack would have approved.

LIBERAL (!) guilt in Robo-calling
ironstone replied to Fletch 27's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let's see,the CRTC assessed a 4900$ fine against LIBERAL FRANK VALERIOTE'S riding association for a ROBOCALL MESSAGE that anonymously attacked his Conservative opponent's position on abortion. The caller failed to identify its originator and gave no callback number. The woman that made the call worked for Valeriote and used a false name and made no mention of her affiliation with Valeriote. Mr.Valeriote says"We were unaware of certain requirements and inadvertently neglected to include some identifying features in the message, such as a phone number and address." I won't hold my breath waiting for the Council of Canadians to try and nullify the election results of this riding in which the Liberal candidate won. -
Harper takes over 'energy projects' decisions
ironstone replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes,everyone gang up on THE ECONOMIC ENGINE OF CANADA.Who do you think pays for much of our welfare state? As usual, the left want's it both ways. They are only too happy to live off the spoils while at the same time biting the hand that feeds them. -
I have little sympathy for big labour in Canada to be honest. Many of these union bosses are every bit as greedy as these fat cats in the corporate boardrooms.I have no sympathy at all for the public servants, they are coddled from day one and have it much easier than most workers in the private sector. In the automotive sector, why is it that heavily unionized GM,Ford and Chryler have historically had a rather adversarial relationship in comparison with the non-union foreign competition?I have been a union member at one time(Teamsters)and got fed up with the union fighting tooth and nail for the useless employees.

Government job cuts make NO economic sense
ironstone replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I wouldn't worry too much about the people getting laid off. They will get a very generous buyout to help.Remember the real "mass layoffs"during the Chretien years?Do you recall the stories of how many of them were hired back as consultants? Mass hirings in the public sector do not make sense either. If there wasn't such a high rate of absenteeism in the public service perhaps we wouldn't need so many of them. -
Our federal public sector workers are ill!
ironstone replied to Fletch 27's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let's be perfectly honest here,it's a very safe bet that the overwhelming majority of sick days are used as vacation days.I have no doubt that most of these days off are Mondays and Fridays.Spare me the nonsense about stress and overwork.Public servants in Canada on the whole have much better pay, much more time off,and a lighter workload than does the average private sector worker. It's not a stretch to say that the typical gov't worker get's as much or more time off in sick leave than many private sector employees. Don't they also have something called "volunteer days" as well? They have it so much better than most Canadians and yet, they are the one's the complain the most by far. My father used to work at NRC years ago and he loved to drink on weekends.Every year he missed a few weeks because he was often too hung over to go to work on Mondays. That would not be tolerated in the private sector but dad didn't have to worry, after all,he was in the government. -
I think lot's of countries should adopt the Scott Walker approach. He did get results love him or hate him. It's funny how many didn't volunteer their dues for the unions now that they don't have to.

More Fiscal Incompetence from the Conservatives

More Fiscal Incompetence from the Conservatives
ironstone replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You have GOT to be kidding right? You have never heard of have and have-not provincec? You aren't aware of equalization payments? Quebec is the biggest beneficiary by far. For the record,I don't believe Alberta has the cheapest tuition fees nor to they have $7 per day daycare. -
More Fiscal Incompetence from the Conservatives
ironstone replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't think there has ever been a single government that has a perfect fiscal record. It is probably somewhat harder given the massive size of Canada's government. Perhaps things will get better in 2015 when Thomas "11 mortgage" Mulcair becomes Canada's first NDP Prime Minister. After all, doesn't Thomas"let's bail out Europe!" Mulcair have more fiscal sense than anyone? I can't wait..... -
Protests, police provocateurs, masks, etc
ironstone replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You can't be taken seriously when you compare Harper to a brutal dead dictator and Canada isn't a totalitarian regime, although I have concerns about our HRC's,but that's another topic. -
The Ottawa Citizen has actually assigned two reporters to investigate this robocall thing full time. This story has dominated the front page of this paper for more than a month now.Every story is pretty much the same,so and so made a call to so and so....blah blah. They have beaten this story to death.

Taxing the rich more is a popular idea with the rich too
ironstone replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I have recently completed my tax return and on page 4 at the bottom there is a box I can check off to donate to the Ontario Opportunities Fund(to help reduce Ontario's debt). So in Canada's most populous province, what exactly is preventing rich people,or anyone for that matter, from sending more money to the government? -
Last week Bob Rae was quoted in the Ottawa Citizen as saying that it's unlikely that the man at the top(Harper)did not have full knowledge of this Robocall incident. I guess by his own logic, that means that Jean Chretien must also have had full knowledge, from beginning to end,of the Ad Sponsorship program. No doubt,Elections Canada will follow the wishes of their Liberal advisors and go after the Tories with everything they have. I suspect that when they find the culprit or culprits, they will face a much stiffer penalty than say....the Quebecer's who orchestrated the spoiling of tens of thousands of spoiled ballots in the 1995 referendum.

MandaTORY Minimum Sentences Do Not Work
ironstone replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Would you be in favour of more prisons if Harper promised to build more of those rather nice bungalow/cottage style prisons? -
Thomas Mulcair is a French Citizen
ironstone replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The main thing that bothers me about dual citizenship are the citizens of convenience that live abroad and only return to Canada for the benefits like medical care to name one.I think of all the "Canadians"living in Lebanon as one particularly bad example. -
The Harper Government, Sun Media and EthicalOil.org

Doesn't the Tides Foundation, based in the US,funnel money into Canada for lobbying? -
So in 1997,neither China and India had the emissions they do now?So their emissions are rapidly climbing? Now I get it,Chinese(world's largest emitter) emissions are just peachy but not emissions from Canada. Didn't the Kyoto accord allow us buy emission credits from developing countries if we couldn't reach our reduction targets? How would that reduce emissions? Only the uninformed would sign and ratify such an idiotic accord.
-
Could you describe,in detail, exactly what progress Chretien made in reducing emissions after signing Kyoto? Could you explain what sense Kyoto made when it excluded countries like China and India? Can you find Al Gore's signature on the Kyoto accord?

Here in Ontario, taxpayers have to subsidize windmills(bird-blenders)and solar panels, with little or no benefit at the end of the day.Actually,I stand corrected. At the end of the day,the people of Ontario will certainly get screwed big time. At least the oil sands project pumps billions of dollars into the Canadian economy.
