I think covid has certainly impacted the world economy in a really negative way and many countries reacted by massive spending, Trudeau already was a big spender to begin with. In my opinion, much of his spending wasn't smart spending, it was more about just pissing money out the door as fast as he could. And we all know Justin Trudeau does not take economics seriously. Unfortunately governments at all levels and political leanings are secretive, some being worse than others. They are all similar in that first and foremost they look after their own interests and then their cronies are next in line. I have never tried to file a FOI before but I'm not surprised that it would be a very difficult process.

I personally think greed is one of the worst vices a person can have. Anyone that works hard and earns a lot of money I wouldn't really characterize as greedy. The distribution of power is a wide open subject. In Canada I think the provinces should have equal control over the same areas. It isn't really the case because Quebec is more equal than the rest but that's another topic. I am opposed to the forced redistribution of wealth because of the leftist mindset that the accumulation of wealth is a bad thing. I believe there is a large segment of the population that truly do need assistance. But it goes back to the hand up vs the handout analogy. The Elon Musk's of this world help create much more wealth and a higher standard of living for more people than the Bernie Sanders types. I would lump Trudeau and most of his fellow Liberals in with Sanders too. Trudeau is no innovator, he was born into substantial wealth and seems to be pretty greedy, like his mother. He's wealthy but has had no problem charging charities hefty sums for speeches. He could have done so for free. I do make a distinction between those that truly need help and those who are able to contribute but are just too lazy.

You might want to go back and read my earlier post about winning elections and staying in power. The Jan 6 riot was amateur hour and most certainly NOT a coordinated attempt at a coup. It's ridiculous to suggest it.

If you had to compare how the 1000 or so Jan. 6 rioters have been treated by the justice system vs the countless Antifa/BLM rioters over the last numbers and the billions in damages they caused, is it not fair to point out that the Jan 6 rioters have faced much harsher consequences than Antifa/BLM? I'm not suggesting the Jan 6 group should not face consequences but why has the other side been pretty much untouched? There were probably very few actually arrested and I'm sure that most of them would have been released within a matter of hours. What is it about progressives that makes them want to mete out justice in such a blatantly unfair manner? There is a difference between being anti-vax and anti-vax mandate.

Perhaps the summary of this thread might be that Republicans do not like rioting by anybody and if they do riot they must be held accountable. Democrats on the other hand seem to be mostly fine with the act of rioting but that depends entirely on who is rioting. Any evidence to suggest otherwise?

Televised news tends to be the worst. Some big news channels are much better than others in my opinion, FOX is much better than the worst of the worst CNN. Most of the important stories on all of the big networks are very constrained in time and making space for commercial breaks trumps in depth coverage of these stories. It's more about grabbing the attention of the viewer than honest unbiased reporting. News stories should be covered warts and all but that's rarely the case most of the time. A good example was mentioned earlier here when violent attacks were happening against asians . It was a big story until videos showed that an awful lot of the attackers were black. No mention of that fact by the MSM because it doesn't help their leftist narrative. There are better sources out there and we can draw our own conclusions from them.
