Could it be considered to be the right decision even though it wasn't popular?Might this be yet another case of the Conservatives having to do the dirty work and the Liberals reaping the benefits? The GST was a huge cash cow for the Libs, and on the whole,I think most people would admit that free trade has also been good for the country. Both initiatives which the Liberals fought tooth and nail against while they were in opposition.
-
I recall an attack ad that the Liberals never ended up using at the time.Apparently the ad claimed that Harper would,in effect, send armed troops into the streets of Quebec or something idiotic like that.Wasn't there also an ad by the Libs that showed a handgun pointing at the audience? Seems to me the "hidden agenda"attacks are still paying huge dividends to this day.

I'll file that one next to this one,"If you elect me,I will get rid of the GST!"

Toronto School Board eyes "Afro-centric" school
ironstone replied to g_bambino's topic in Local Politics in Canada
John Tory got raked over the coals by just about everyone for proposing to fund other religious schools besides the Catholics. Now that there may be an "afro-centric" school under Dalton's watch, the response is rather muted to say the least. This story gets very little coverage it seems. -
Why didn't you give us some examples of Taliban justice?Tell us how you you think executing young women for trying to get educated is in any sense of the word justice. How about giving a direct answer instead of your usual pointless rants?
-
Care to tell everyone what you know about Taliban style justice?

You claim Canada has a stong and accurate legal system.I beg to differ,I think Canada has a rather lenient justice system on the whole. How many times have you read about an individual given a "life sentence" and then he/she is eligible for parole after a few years?Roger Walsh, charged with impaired driving something like 17-18 times and then FINALLY he is given a life sentence for killing a woman while impaired.Yeah sure,a life sentence my ass, eligible for parole after 7 years, and given his history he will surely get behind the wheel again while loaded. Your beloved Omar Khadr will get the same lenient treatment when he get's back to Canada and be free to ply his trade. Please tell my why you think having Khadr and his terrorist supporting family in Canada is beneficial to Canadians.

Jack Layton as a Minister in a coalition government?Scares the hell out of me -
According to Beck,Mr.Jones has said some pretty radical things and has been linked to radical causes.Yes,Beck played some audio to verify this stuff.Let's see,Jones has fought to free a convicted cop killer, believes whites are poisoning minorities(migrant workers in fields, pesticides,a huge stretch ),believes the Bush administration let 9/11 happen and gave it his blessing,to name a few.It sounds like X Files stuff doesn't it?Another name that popped up is that of one Valerie Jarrett, said to be one of Obama's closest advisors.Said on tape we're happy to have recruited Van Jones,we've been watching him since his time on Oakland. Many months ago,I remember seeing comedian Victoria Jackson on the O'Reilly Factor. She said she thought Obama is a communist.I thought that was both silly and amusing at the time. Now I'm starting to wonder if she was right! Imagine if at the height of the cold war, someone said someday the Russians will turn to capitalism and the Americans will turn towards communism. Is this too far fetched or not?

We have it all in this forum, the good, the bad and the ugly. The ugly sh*t like the bad-ass bravado coming from people like GostHacked throwing out the "idiots" insults way too much. You wouldn't say it to someone's face so why do it here?Show a bit of class

U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy dies at 77

I should have added that I am not implying that Ted Kennedy was all style and no substance.Rest in peace Ted...... -

Too many politicians from all sides act out of loyalty to their own parties far too often and fail to do the right thing. After reading another article by David Warren in the Ottawa Citizen today,it seems sad that the passing of Kennedy's elder sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver did not get more attention.Sounds like she was an amazing person, but one who was doing her good deeds without seeking the spotlight. It's too bad that style always get's more attention than substance. http://www.davidwarrenonline.com/index.php?id=1041 -
If the polls are to be believed,we will likely have minority governments for some time. The Liberals are kind of like the separatists in Quebec in that they will not take no for an answer and keep asking the same question until they get the result they want. They firmly believe governing Canada is their right.

I have mostly voted Conservative in my lifetime, and once for the Liberals. There are things the Conservatives have done and are doing that bother me and they deserve the criticism. Has there ever once been something bad that your beloved Liberals have done that you won't defend them to the hilt for?Does the sun really shine out of their collective behinds from your rose coloured glasses perspective?

An interesting column by Peter Worthington. http://www.ottawasun.com/comment/columnist...1/10694831.html -
I have a novel idea. How about a hiring policy totally based on ability and suitability for the job,and keep race, gender and sexual orientation out of the mix? It's totally unfair if a qualified applicant is turned away because of race,no matter what the skin colour is.The leftist version of employment equity says it's perfectly fine to discriminate against white males, but not if they are gay I suppose .The best available person should always be the one that get's hired. What happens when employment equity is forced upon all job sectors? Will the Toronto Maple Leafs be forced to sign a more ethnically diverse lineup? They seem to be an all white male team,so left wing logic dictates that the organization must be racist does it not?

Actually, that's not what I said at all.I made no reference to the amount of Muslims killed since the war,but in the time before that up until the present.Remember the Iran/Iraq war?Muslim vs Muslim.Palestinians kill each other too.How many Iraqis died under Saddam Hussein? How many Iranians die under the radical Ayatollah's that rule that country with an iron fist? Last, and certainly not least,if you read my previous post correctly in the first place,I did not say unequivocally that most Muslims die at the hands of other Muslims.I asked whether it was possible or likely that this was the case.Big difference. You seem to be letting your anger get the better of you and it shows in what you write on here.Try using reason and facts instead.

Why conservatives are angry at the criminal justice system
ironstone replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't know if all of Canada is less dangerous,Toronto sure seems to have it's share of gun violence, mostly gang related. -
Dislike I can tolerate, but when it come's to Sarah Palin it seems to cross the line into absolute hatred. There are some politicians I don't like, but I don't hate them either. What is it about Palin that brings out the ugly feeling of hatred exactly? She stared down corruption within her own party, she is raising a special needs child and she's not afraid to speak her mind. What is so scary about that? What am I missing that makes her so dangerous?

George W.Bush, possibly one of the most despised world leaders in history, was apparently quite popular in former Soviet bloc countries.People, like you say, that have actually lived under the Communist system. This speaks volumes.....
-
Unfortunately, they pursue relations with Communist China for one reason, the pursuit of the almighty dollar.Cheap labour trumps human rights it seems.I dislike Communism, but at the same time I do not endorse capitalism completely. There has got to be more to life than the unbridled pursuit of wealth and nothing else. The point I'm trying to make is that Communism has left a rather dark legacy since it's birth (spawned?))and I wonder how anyone in their right mind could embrace this ideology.
-
Do you honestly place so little value on human rights? On the other hand, there are nations where the people seem to genuinely love their leaders despite severe oppression.North Korea comes to mind,an even more oppressive place than China.Would you consider North Korea successful to rank higher than China?Shouldn't human beings count for something?
-
This is too easy.I don't mean to lecture you of course, but would it be fair to say that in order for a country to be successful it would include........a good record on human rights?China is indeed an economic powerhouse, now that they have embraced some aspects of capitalism. But surely you would agree they have a very long way to go in the area of human rights? In case you haven't noticed, protests against the Chinese government are not really tolerated that much.

Despite what these aircraft were designed to do,there were numerous WW2 fighter aircraft that had such gorgeous lines. One of my favs is the FW-190,especially the long nose D version. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:FW190-D9.jpg Which was the fastest piston engine fighter of WW2?I have seen different claims to that title, including the P-51H,and last week watching Wings of the Luftwaffe, they claimed it was the Dornier Do 335 Pfeil(Arrow).Rather an unusal inline push-pull propeller arrangement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dornier_335

I read through all of the post's on this topic and was quite surprised that nobody mentioned one of the finest military aircraft of all time, the F-4 Phantom.First flown in 1958 and hundreds still active in non-US service today according to Wikipedia.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-4_Phantom_II
